I was a big Alan fan the year he won the championship, and I cried like a baby when he died. I was 11, he was 38. I thought 38 was SO OLD then, I’m past that age now, I still have a nice collection of Kulwicki stuff I’ve either posthumously obtained or had other fellow fans send me and I have the Hall of Fame shirt and hat I wear April 1 every year. I met Peter at the truck race at Texas a few years ago (he worked for the Hattori team at the time) Great guy, asked him questions about Alan, he said away from the track he was a regular guy, at the track, all business, and he was shocked when I asked to get a picture with him. I guess he doesn’t see himself as anybody “important” but to me, he had that connection to Alan.

That #7 Hooter’s Ford Thunderbird is still one of the best looking cars in series history. I go back watch his post race interview after he won the championship all the time. It’s always a tearjerker when he says “there will be more races and more championships in the future.” Little did he, or anyone else, know that just 5 races in to the next season, he’d be gone.
