Always thought it was totally on Mayfield for that wreck. But looking at this a few times: Gordon comes off 4 VERY low. He deviates quite a bit off the actual racing line which Mayfield would have never been able to anticipate. A similar situation happens later with Jarrett and the ’43 (hard to tell but I think the 43 comes of the corner unusually low). The incident just prior to Gordon’s wreck was super-aggressive driving on Bodine’s part, especially for a lapped car, but he did have position. And Gordon himself was a notoriously aggressive driver. Basically it took 3 T-Birds to beat one Jeff Gordon in his Monte Carlo 😉 .
Probably my 3rd most favorite Bristol race after the two Earnhardt/Labonte duels. They sure ruined Bristol didn’t they? Loving the dirt though!!
