Well, dammit, I was a fan. Hendrick hired him out of retirement, and he came on strong in that five car. He’s my age and he came in to the 5 car, and won a bunch of races that year! Life sized images were up in my local commissary for his sponsor at the time. He was basically superman…Jimmie said so. Jimmie had the utmost respect for him. And Martin came in second for the championship….again. He really deserved to win a championship, but I’ve never seen him show any bitterness at all. He always comes across as a very likeable guy that I would love to sit down and have a beer with.
