I bet you that the people that put this race together regrets it now. It’s like building a street course in the middle of Manhattan.
I really want Daytona back 4th of July Weekend was the best since 1961 like Daytona is better
This hasn’t been a good weekend for NASCAR. Still giving this a chance, but it hasn’t been good (besides Practice and Qualifying). I know that they can’t do anything about mother nature being around, but this just makes me wish that they kept Road America on the schedule as the 4th of July weekend.
You said Nascar cant control the weather, you liked practice and qualifying but its not a good weekend? What are you talking about?
Definitely turning into a missed opportunity, largely due to factors NASCAR can’t control.
@Eric Esteppbet people at road America are laughing how Chicago is doing terribly and its sunny over at road America
@KyleB8&ChrisB20Fanit’s the racing God’s punishment for trading in great fans at a great facility for the casual fan.
It’s silly that it rains in the xfinity race and ppl are already calling it a bust. Road America was very average. Other than that fact that it had a lot of attendance I can’t fathom why ppl want to go back
92nd!
But seriously it would really suck for weather to mess this up. And of course rest in peace to the guy who got electrocuted, that’s a very sad thing I did not expect to read today
One thing I didn’t really touch on, fan enthusiasm was very high at the track! Crowd got big a little before the Xfinity race started. The lightning and concert cancelation definitely hurt the vibe at the end, though.
people were crazy enough to attend?
Eric, the thing is that I think NASCAR knows what they’re doing, but they just end up having dumb luck this weekend. It’s like most of the time they try to have a night race and there is a threat of bad weather. Everyone can’t put full blame on NASCAR if it’s rain causing all these setbacks.
its beautiful in Daytona
Hope to see you at the track when this rain pass and also happy birthday to Richard petty
Turn 9 had a pretty decent viewing area where you could sorta see the cars braking across the bridge into 7 and then see everyone funnel through from 7-11. There was also one big monitor plopped in the middle of that curve where you could at least see what was happening. But yeah everywhere else from what I saw was pretty narrowed off from a viewing perspective.
Well not what I was hoping but it is the first time they have raced a street race so mistakes happen although road America would have a massive crowd
Always tough to see all the action…..treat a road corse different like as a fan watching a golf tournament……hang at one hole for a few players, then walk up and watch another hole. My first race ever was Indy cars at Laguna Seca. Hard to follow as a hard core fan yes……8 year old me hearing the screaming engines and smelling the burning rubber was kinda the target audience. And rain sucks.
The 8 mile 30 min lightning rule is ridiculous.
I want this to be a big success. I love nascar and want it to grow. I don’t care if we get more street races. I would be okay with 1 and no more. But I still want this to succeed to grow the sport.
NASCAR trying to have a good 4th of July weekend since leaving Daytona. Mission = impossible.
Wrong NASCAR killed it at Road America and this is awesome.
@Jiminy Cricket a road race on the 4th of July will never match the edge of your seat excitement behind a superspeedway or a 2.0 mile track respectfully. If they wanna keep trying new things fine, but maybe try something the core fan base has been saying like getting some lights at Talladega and trying an independence day race there
@Jiminy Cricket Rain delays aren’t awesome
Daytona is too steaming hot!
@Rudy F they spent a lot of money putting seats up in Chicago just to take them down in a week. Why can’t we spend that money on new seats and amenities on a vacant track like pikes peak and actually take the cup series somewhere they haven’t been on the 4th
From what little I saw of the xfinity race, seems like there is no viable area to pass. It’s a follow the leader situation unless you want to put the bumper to someone.
I hear you. I knew it would be a train wreck for real race fans. It’s hard to watch on t.v. I hope it works out still though.
Definitely understand the frustration with the lightning policy and cancellation. But we live 4 miles south of the course and got absolutely hammered with a thunderstorm and flooding. Wrigley Field is 4 miles north and the Cubs game didn’t start until after 9 PM. So having the storm split around downtown on both sides seems like something you couldn’t have foreseen based on the radar and forecast
view of the track… that’s a road course/street race vs oval thing you have to accept. Try stage rally, you see one corner of one stage and the cars are all 1-2 minutes apart. There are ways to follow the race besides what your eyes can see live in front of you. Also I can recall people being struck by lightening at the lakefront in recent years. It’s been lightening all night and this morning (sunday) as I type this too, radar shows huge lingering storm.
I like the track and scene around it. Bummer with the rain.
