NASCAR is a treasure trove of weirdness. It doesn’t matter if it is the cars, drivers, tracks, situations, or anything else in between NASCAR can be very weird. Each track has some of these moments that just stick with people. For me, the biggest one of these for Michigan International Speedway always sticks in my mind from 2007. The 2007 3M Performance 400. This is the weirdest NASCAR race at Michigan and we are going to look into it and see just why it is so weird and also how it is so weird.

I remember this race, used to hate rain delays having to wait till after school to watch the race.
2012 pure michigan 400 was a great race with weird crashes. the mark martin crash genuinely scared me cuz i thought he died instantly.
that is the only crash i still involuntarily scream when watching
Fun fact: this was the first NASCAR race I ever attended. I was 4 years old and we stayed in a motor home for three days
Cool?
2012 Daytona 500 is probably the weirdest race i watched live. Never thought I’d see somebody plow into a jet dryer causing a fire while putting Tide on the track to clean it up. Went from Monday night to early Tuesday.
That entire speedweeks was wild man. That was my first full season of watching the sport, and man what an introduction.
At least Tide got good advertising material out of it. lol
And yet I was still incredibly impressed, having watched the sport for 20 years at that point, that NASCAR got that entire race in after having a massive fire on the track.
Dude. I was sick with the flu during that race. I for sure thought I was having a fever dream lol.
I was switching between that race and a different sport on Monday night, some NCAA University of Wisconsin game when they had a guy from South Dakota on the team, I have lived in South Dakota since Jan 1st, 2001. Wisconsin was getting its butt kicked by Ohio State or some school that is way better then University of Wisconsin was despite being really good that year.
I am a Wisconsin Fan as from 1991–1999 my dad went to the school for both master’s and almost had PHD (1–2 years from completing) before his professor died and they changed the program for what he was doing so much he would have had to start over from 1995. He had a job for 2 years with Johnson Controls as part of the animal/insect pest issue within the heat and cooling systems before the job was stopped for some reason and they hired outside people selling off the equipment.
But not as weird as Texas 2020 where even it was delayed on Wednesday. I think other factors on why it was not being run on Sunday night and Tuesday night other than the mist was due to the World Series
The 2020 Texas race fall and 2015 windows 10 400 were a few of the weirdest races I’ve seen
??????
You know it’s either really weird or really bad when Mike Helton is in the broadcast booth.
Fun fact: There was concept art of Sterling Marlin’s #14 car with ’57 Chevy logos that would’ve run in this race. But the team shut down before this race happened, so the scheme was never run.
You got a link to the art?
2013 Aaron’s 499 was a little odd. It started early, rain delay, and ended at dark. Multiple big ones, a flip, and an Underdog winner in David Ragan. Also Denny Hamlin was in the booth I believe at one point, so it had its moments
I was there. That was odd
Yep I watched that from flag to flag.
You’ve been rolling with the uploads lately. We appreciate it!!
So… As someone born and raised in Michigan, I can say this without a doubt… Lake Michigan makes the weather a level of bipolar that can’t be explained
“TROUBLE OFF TURN 55!”
This race is also notable for Joe Nemechek making is his first and only start with E&M Racing, a team that DNQ’d A LOT between 2007 and 2008.
I liked the 57 Bel Air throwbacks on these cars. Just looked cool. They should’ve done takes on black widows like Buck Baker’s 87.
Not only was the next race the Bristol night race, but this was when the truck race was on Wednesday night so anyone doing double duty (Kyle Busch) raced the very next day at Bristol on the new reconfiguration
I WAS THERE!! My uncle, cousin, mother and I woke up early each morning and drove 3 hours in vain attempts to see the race. By Tuesday, even the track staff was sick of it and were barely checking bags at the gate.
I remember that race fondly; getting home from school (both Monday & Tuesday) thinking “Will they ever get this race in?”
They need to bring back retro looking race cars for the throwback race
2008 Brickyard 400 was pretty weird for obvious reasons. Just felt so odd.
