The only reason he’s in a must-win situation is due to that defeatist mentality from the beginning. Had he gone in thinking there was a possibility to point his way in, had he held his head high over that string of top fives in the summer, who knows… maybe that positive outlook could have pushed one of the old junkers to the winner’s circle.
