so far 100% of his cup series starts have been in the top 10
yes
First person to start their career with 2 top tens since 1978 (Terry Labonte)
Small steps you can see he working it out .
Too bad that part-time drivers can’t have a shot at the play-offs tbh
That wouldn’t make sense if they could
Svg is going to be a rock star in cup whenever he runs full time
he can win in anything
@turbo_marc need to see how he does on an oval track next
@Ph Mike he’s raced sprint cars before
Why people think oval is hard ..it’s just bit of practice way easier to learn than road courses …
@TurboMarc Not even remotely the same as racing on asphalt. Apples and oranges.
Kiwi Dale Jr for sure haha
Nah, he’s much better than Dale Jr.
He is going to be full – time with Nascar in 2024. Awesome for him. Cheers!, mate.
Why he take out the 54 tho?
To gain more fans
He was having issues with the throttle sticking or over revving at the beginning and couldn’t get it slowed. They talked about it on the broadcast. Tye was his usual good christian self… running up to him after the flag and flipping him off a couple times. Great role model.
Was it a 4 car nose to tail from the Logano crash behind?
@poxy uteyea, that one was on the 22
Lagano caused a domino effect
What a wheelman.. can’t wait until he drives again
Road course!!! Lets see how he does on a mile and a half oval… or talladega???
Ovals are not as hard as road course and require less skill
It’s funny because the larger the oval the easier it is .. very small ovals like Lucas oil raceway at Indy are way harder. But road racers are used to braking so they only have to learn a couple of corners on an oval compared to 15 or more on a road track.
@Fluffy Mcnutters Gaming Then explain to me how he only finished 19th and a lap down in his truck debut on an oval? If they’re not as hard, he should’ve won that race easily. But he didn’t. He got schooled by a field where half the drivers are teenagers and in their early 20’s.
It may require less skill but it still requires a fairly unique skillset which is hard to adapt to as has been proven by practically every driver who has come over from other racing disciplines to try Nascar.
I don’t know why people think he’s going to come in and dominate. Marcos Ambrose came over from SuperCar just like SVG did and he stunk on ovals his whole career, was only a factor on road courses naturally just like SVG is so far proving to be. The guy is talented, there’s no denying that, but people gotta slow their roll and have more realistic expectations.
Better Luck Next Time Shane Van Ginsburgen but you make it to the top 10.
not first? knew he was overrated
A top 10 in his 2nd cup race not good enough for you?
Why would you think he would be first again?. Dude just learning at moment not bad for a beginner in Nascar
Of course he was first … First non NASCAR driver … First Southern Hemisphere driver .. first super cars driver first New Zealand driver and first guy in the 91 car with a sticky throttle .. so really way more 1st s than 10ths ..
@Jarrod Gillespiehe’s joking *whoosh*
Can’t wait to see this guy go full time in 2024. SVG has shown that he isn’t going to sit around in 34th 3 laps down and that he can be a championship favorite
A win and a top ten in two starts? Impressive
Will be interesting to see the progression on ovals
Once Harvick retires, I’m going to cheer for SVG. This man can and will win in anything you put him in.
If you take the 2 races SVG has raced compared to all other drivers from a points perspective in the same 2 races (and if i have done my maths (math) right) He would be 3rd on points at 82 with C Elliot on 83 and M McDowell on 101 in front of him. Not bad for a rookie…
Just feel the need to remind some people that he finished 19th and a lap down in his oval debut in the truck series at IRP. This is out of 36 trucks where about 7-8 of them DNF’ed and 1/3rd of the field are teenagers and other inexperienced drivers. Didn’t exactly light the world on fire on a non-road course track where he doesn’t have a more even advantage. He finished in the back half of the field.
Just to paint a more realistic picture on how he’ll perform in Nascar outside of the road courses. It’s going to take years for him to figure out the ovals if he ever figures it out, it just doesn’t instantly happen. This is why Trackhouse is only signing him to a developmental deal. The guy is still completely unproven on ovals so he’s not getting a full-time Cup ride as was speculated. He’ll run part-time in all 3 series first for a year. Got to see how he does on the other 30 races a year that aren’t road courses first before putting him in a ride full-time.
