I’ve been a fan since 1990, so I think 34 years qualifies me as an “old” fan, and I love the new things NASCAR is trying. Clash in LA, Netflix Doc, Chicago Street race, periodically revamping the playoff process, talks of an international race, etc. I do not want NASCAR to alienate their hard-core base, and not everything they’re doing is a home run, BUT, I do think you need to branch out if you’re going to grow the sport and expand its reach. You need new sponsors and new eyes on the sport to sustain and grow it, you can’t follow the business model of the past. If you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you always got.
