Totally agree. I loved it. And I wasn’t a huge fan of Bristol (recent) leading up to this race.
And yeah – it was cool to see the older drivers (minus KFB and plus Larson) really do well in completely adverse racing conditions.

NASCAR at Indy never recovered from that tire fiasco. The stands were packed that day; it hasn’t been anywhere close since.

I gotta admit, after Stage 1, I thought “Ah damn it, it’s Indy ’08 all over again…” Just to go “Holy, that’s one of the most fun races I’ve ever seen” at the end

I’m admittedly a casual NASCAR fan; this was the first race I’ve watched from beginning to end in years. Entertaining as heck with a great sprint to the finish between Hamlin and Truex through traffic. I used to watch more in the ’90s and early 2000’s before the stage era, when long-run strategy was actually part of the race.

The photo finish at Atlanta was amazing for the casual fans, it’s an insane moment that will be on the highlight reels for years to come. The Bristol finish was great for the more hardcore race fans, it wasn’t as visually dramatic, but you can appreciate all the build-up, planning, strategy and individual driver skill that led to that finish.

We’re blurring lines here with liking the idea of the race accidentally becoming a drivers race and the disaster situation that occurred with the tires. The tires were going down to the cords for almost every single car. The winner of the race blew out a tire… Tire fall off is great, tire SHUT OFF isn’t.
