Like you said, NASCAR promoted this. It would be different if they didn’t agree with it. That’s the part no one has ever really touched when talking about the waiver. The suspension factor. Chase Elliot didn’t only get a waiver for his injury last year, he also got it for his suspension. If NASCAR is gonna give waivers for suspensions, then they basically are gonna be forced to give them to anyone for any reason.

And it’s the double, something we rarely see but there’s long precedent for attempting it. Waivers have been handed out no problem, even last year with Chase Elliott was suspended for a week (this was separate from his injury waiver.) Nascar definitely should amend the rule to make it clearer what is and is not waiver eligible, but their rules are written in pencil anyway.
