I have $2000 worth of computer/AV equipment to record live broadcasts and mark the commercial breaks in those broadcasts. Then, when I’m watching the broadcast (time-shifted by a few hours) and a commercial comes on, I can hit a button on the remote and get back to racing. NASCAR broadcasts back in 2000 or so were the impetus for this setup.
On a side note, you’d be surprised how little actual play time there is in an NFL game when they’re not standing around waiting for a commercial to complete. You can literally watch one in about an hour, 15 minutes if you’re skipping commercial breaks.
