@@President_Grover_Cleveland Yes. Back then, it was based on your 15 best races. Today, it’s simply who finishes highest in points. Although it is simpler today, I think the Playoffs Ultimately take the meritocracy out of it. Cole Custer proved that in 2020.

@@whoasked9500 It’s actually a little bit different as to how they crowned the Rookie of the Year back then. You see, how they ruled it was based on your 15 best races. And considering Ryan Newman got 14 Top-5s to Jimmie Johnson’s 6, that played a major factor. Granted, you are right that Newman also scored one more top-10 than JJ, but the point is that back then, ROTY wasn’t determined by points position.

Still, I still think it seems messed up.
