@Dots Cup Series then he should not have gone below the line

I didn’t, there was literally so much room on the bottom. He just went below the line for no reason

The yellow line rule is one of the worst rules out there. Get rid of it

@Lycan_Jedi with the package we have now it doesn’t matter what we do its still going to be a race car death trap. We would probably be going 5 wide down the backstretch

Reply
Joshua Pittman May 1, 2021 at 7:51 am

@Riggsfan99 they became more likely in 2001 after it’s introduction in the spring Dega race compared to the previous season.

Which nascar introduced the rule after Dale died and claimed that it was because of Dales death that they introduced it even though his death had nothing to do the apron.
NASCAR definitely did it for entertainment rather than safety.

Lycan_Jedi May 1, 2021 at 7:52 am

@Riggsfan99 Guarantee big ones would cut to one per race on average. This package is so similar to the early 2000s package, and yet they still didn’t have as many wrecks.

Reply
Riggsfan99 May 1, 2021 at 7:55 am

@Lycan_Jedi yeah a lot of it is blocking because they have huge runs. They are going 10 mph faster than people in front of them

Reply
Garett Burns July 9, 2021 at 10:12 pm

@TYLER_REDDICK_FAN_8 I don’t recall anybody going down there and causing a wreck before the rule. They just needed a tool to manipulate races when they felt like it. They stuck it to Tony Stewart in 01 Daytona night race for avoiding Johny Benson and not wrecking 20 cars and flipping into the stands. It had caused more wrecks in my opinion.

Justin haley wasnt below the yellow line.

But he made up for it in the cup race in 2019

Reply
nascarfanatic2425 January 5, 2021 at 11:20 am

@Dale Devine Yeah, at this point, it’s outdated. I understand trying to keep safety, but it’s backfired and instead making things more dangerous. I get that they didn’t want another death like Dale Earnhardt’s, but it really has backfired. With finishes like the 2009 Aaron’s 499. As exciting as that was, there were people who got hurt, and Carl Edwards had one of the scariest crashes I have ever seen. I feel at the very least, they need to put limits on the rule. You can’t pass below the yellow line, but if you’re forced down below the yellow line, it’s game on. That’s what the rule should be IMO.

Orion 77 March 25, 2021 at 9:35 pm

dude, are you blind???? he was CLEARLY below the yellow line!!! rules are rules, he did not follow them…..

Reply
Riggsfan99 April 11, 2021 at 3:59 pm

That was his own fault, he had plenty of room but he went to far down, plus he has gotten lucky with all but 1 of his wins in all 3 series so people shouldn’t be complaining about 1 race

Reply
Crocidayle April 26, 2021 at 4:43 am

@nascarfanatic2425 That is the rule

Reply
nascarfanatic2425 April 26, 2021 at 10:59 am

@Crocidayle No, the rule is that if you’re forced below the line, the person who forced you down below the line gets black flagged. That rule is so inconsistent and clearly has fans both old and new confused.

Reply
Bill Docos December 28, 2019 at 10:51 pm

Ahh, the “Rules”. The yellow line and the “Moment” of caution, the thing that cracks me up about those is how NASCAR actually thinks anyone watching believes a word they say.

10:45 – nah, the fans didn’t want a green finish, they just wanted Jr. to win.

Reply
Brennan Barrier April 25, 2021 at 5:28 am

I never did like Jr, but they flat out gave this one to Gordon. And Dale Earnhardt will always be better than Jeff. Good for him he passed Dale in victories. All he needed was for Dale to be dead for years for that to happen. Earnhardt>Gordon

Reply
Dennis Bowen April 25, 2021 at 2:40 pm

@Brennan Barrier dale was not going to get over 90 wins.
no scenario on earth would ever show that.
face it old timer jeff is better

Reply
Jesse Lee Humphry May 10, 2021 at 6:36 pm

@RC RACER 88 by that logic, if we just tracked points, Gordon would have had 8 chips.

In every metric, in every single stat except chips, Gordon was better.

Reply
tao master Waka July 26, 2021 at 3:52 pm

@RC RACER 88 If Gordon was half the driver Dale Sr. was, then Dale Jr. is about a fifth the driver Gordon was, and about 0.01% the driver Jimmie Johnson was

12:06. ..Wonder why they didn’t just let them race another 1/4 mile and be done with it. They’d already been a mile and a half since the crash.

Reply
DirtyBlastard February 13, 2020 at 4:39 pm

Because wrecked cars were going back onto the track into the path of cars at racing speed. If the cars went into the infield and stayed there they likely would have kept it green.

Reply
Brian Schaffer March 7, 2020 at 7:56 pm

@DirtyBlastard Race was going to.be over though once they got to the start/finish line. So the cars would be slowed way down by then. Track personnel would have been able to ho out 10 seconds later.

Reply
Garett Burns July 10, 2021 at 12:05 am

Vickers spun and kept going , they should have let them run to the line at least. Jeff was the only guy in the league with Jr. on drafting, he could have still beat him to the line. As a race fan I could have accepted either one winning if they didn’t have it decided for them.

That yellow line rule is dumb as hell. I get having some sort of track limit for stuff like preventing drivers from cutting the track, safety reason, etc, but there is not a single racing series I can think of that enforces their track limits like this. He was at top speed coming out of the draft and cut across the whole track for the win and the only thing he did was have two wheels on the yellow line. I don’t think you could ask for a cleaner move in a series like NASCAR.

Jako Hindman February 21, 2020 at 2:15 am

Miss seeing Jeff, Jr, Tony and Edwards on the track. Thank god newman walked out of the hospital on his own. Hope Johnson has championship season.

Reply
DRC707 March 1, 2020 at 10:22 am

Seeing as there are many factors to throwing the yellow on the last lap I think it should be reviewed at whatever the point of incident was. whenever the initial car starts to loss it or whatever the case may be it should automatically be from the beginning of the wreck say the first sign of smoke boom freeze frame line em out subtract the cars that are totalled

Reply
Pigs April 10, 2020 at 1:58 am

The first one is absolutely egregious. No reason to have that rule in effect on the final lap, literally 50 feet away from the finish line. Unreal. Embarrassing moment.

The 1 car was easing over toward the inside, haley was anticipating his coming even further down, which he did.

The inconsistency on the cautions on the last lap of superspeedway are aggravating. Let them race to the finish if theres no trouble in front! I mean they do that now, but it was all pick and choose before which is terrible

Xavier Saavedra September 16, 2020 at 7:55 pm

I’m guessing that yellow line rule is similar to, “what is a catch” in the NFL?

Reply
WackyFlappyBob March 23, 2021 at 7:10 am

No it looks like it’s just like the out of bounds line. If you cross it, you’re out of bounds. Idk why everyone is upset about that. He’s basically cutting corners.

Reply
Stephanie Noblet July 27, 2022 at 4:30 pm

@Lycan_Jedi I agree with that I always wonder what if you go below the line because there’s a wreck in front of you what happens do you get penalized for that

Reply
Lycan_Jedi July 27, 2022 at 4:36 pm

@Stephanie Noblet You aren’t supposed to, but Carl Edward’s got penalized for it then penalized again on the passthrough so he parked the car and just withdrew from the race
