What do you think the future holds for North Wilkesboro Speedway?

for me growing up in Wilkesboro I am on my wife’s YouTube but I remember going to time trials with my grandfather but I really hope one day we get to see nascar make a comeback I know its along run but if anything it would be cool to see a night race or maybe one day in how they are having the shoot-out at deff tracks it would be really cool to see the shoot-out at Wilkesboro but in the end any nascar race would be unreal to see and yes it is like a step back in time

If they can go here anit no excuse they cant go to rockingham.

Kala Spears August 7, 2022 at 3:03 pm

@Dolla bill Swag it is sad they shut a lot of the racetracks that made NASCAR DOWN all for bigger tracks. but at least Rockingham did stay in NASCAR a little longer than Wilkesboro but they should bring them all back

I didn’t think we would see the day but the sold out crowd solidifies one thing: We have officially saved the speedway!

@ThatSly B tickets are 15 currently.

@regularperson7 for fucking local short track races. Not talking about that. Local short track races wont keep the doors open

@joracer1 you missed out then, there was plenty of room.

@ThatSly B no where is going to have 15 dollar tickets for the bigger series. That time has past.

Being a cup track always seems like a loosing venture for tracks like North Wilkesboro. It’s just way way too much overhead for only 1 chance to make their money back. The track would be much much more successful if it stayed a dirt track or did a 50/50 and half the year it’s an asphalt track for modifieds , ARCA, Truck series etc, then the other half of the year a dirt track for world of outlaws 410 sprints and late models, ARCA and trucks dirt series as well. Not to mention it could hold weekly 410 sprint car races or late models races.

The fact that they are reviving North Wilkesboro is awesome. I thought that track was going to rot but I’m glad that they are doing the proper things to bring that track back.

Watching those modified’s go around North Wilkesboro under the lights on a modern high definition digital broadcast on the same surface as before (even if the surrounding structures have decayed over the years) is just so surreal.

Amazing to see an Earnhardt in the 3 again, but the Sun Drop #3 too? Thats extra special to me because ite my favorite soda (and not sold locally anymore) but also because we have a diecast car of the OG Sundrop 3 that Jr drove and we got it signed by the man himself!

I was just thinking I might have to go try to find some Sun Drop for this!

Did u pre order the new diecast signed? Bc I did and was searching for the OG one on eBay afterwards. First die cast for me since the bud 8 in the mid 2000s

I was there in 92 and 93 for the spring races and loved being there. There were no lights either. Love seeing the lights and night racing. Definitely could get used to that for sure.

I thing it will be a very good future for North Wilkesboro and for the fans seeing dale jr on track again

With the decline in attendance in Nascar ingeneral, this has to be a shot in the arm. I believe only good things can come of this. Any or all of the 3 top series in Nascar running here in the future is a plus for the sport.

I never thought I’d see the day where a historical piece of NASCAR history returns to the racing world. I looking forward to see what’s in store for North Wilkesboro Speedway.

The fan turnout for the first race shows, we want good old short track racing. (Take note NASCAR this is the fan base you walked away from). It would need a lot of new stands and facilities to hold a cup race, but maybe one day. I really hope it will hold a big late model/super late model event like the Snowball Derby regularly. I live about an hour and a half away and look forward to getting over there this month.

I don’t think Marcus Smith wants to put that kind of money into the track he wants to keep it the way it looked for the most part but a little more modern Grass Roots kind of track

They’ll fix it up but make it have a retro old school feel to it. Something similar to what Darlington had pulled off.

I am 77 and so happy to see old tracks come back to life . It’s getting back to basics like the dirt at Bristol . Dirt races has always been a main stay to me but have always been a fan of tracks like NWS. Have to give a shout out to Ryan and Dale have always been a fan of both. Hope to make it to NWS soon keep a good thing going.

The crowd turnout and overall interest in bringing this track back most definitely supports the theory that NASCAR fans want the sport back to where it predominately once was…..in the south and driving more short tracks.
