I’m praying Ryan is ok. That was the scariest crash I’ve seen next to Bodines in 2000.

David Jessee…..David, if Dale was wearing the HAANS he would have survived that crash.

@jonah_tc2 it could have been worse but where newman was hit at makes the wreck worse I think did dillons look worse oh ya but because he went in the fence under side of the car first he was perfectly fine if he went in roof first well that’s a whole different story

That was one of the worst wrecks I’ve ever seen in the NASCAR Cup Series. I’m praying for Ryan Newman. I hope he’s okay. #PrayForRyan

You’re right Dillon’s crash was bad, but he was able to get up on his own. Not the case this time.

This is pretty much a mix of Geoff Bodine’s Truck crash in 2000 and Dale Earnhardt in 1996

Reply
Darrell A Wiliams Jr February 18, 2020 at 3:38 am

Not even close. No way. I hope Newman is Ok, and it sounds like he is, but that’s nowhere close to the worst ever.

just see Geoff bodines 2000 crash and that will be the scariest wreck you will ever see

Reply
Leuel48Fan February 18, 2020 at 2:10 am

Hope he’s ok man, damn, what are the odds flipping spinning upside down and he ends up window net facing traffic to get clobbered. These are the safest cars in motorsports and I’ll stand by those words, but my goodness this is a huge test. You can’t anticipate every possible angle of every impact. Terrible end to a great race. #StayStrongNewman

@GC It really doesn’t matter which are the safest (safest are WRC, look at Tänak crash at Monte Carlo), but the fact that safety in all of the motorsport keeps improving

Laksu February 18, 2020 at 6:29 am

@daniel Stark there has been one death in F1 since 1994… Hubert was in Formula 2

I remember back in 2015 i saw A. Dillon’s crash and i was completely terrified to see the #3 to being reduced to almost nothing.
But then he got out and waved the crowd, i’d also like to believe Dale Sr was there with him and said to Dillon “this is not your time”.

Still hoping for good news about Ryan. Father of 2 kids.

Miraculous he survived this. The fact he wasn’t killed instantly by the blunt impact still astonishes me. Hope he makes a full recovery. Much respect to all the people who undertake such a dangerous profession for our enjoyment.

Reply
Gunny Hartman February 19, 2020 at 4:46 am

MagicTank Gaming The fact he survived is definitely proof of that. Props to NASCAR for making huge strides in safety over the past decade. Makes me wonder if the stuff we have now could’ve saved Dale Earnhardt.

Congratulations to Denny Hamlin who is crowned this year’s Daytona 500 champion, but my thoughts and prayers go out to Ryan Newman along with his family and fans!!

Ima Popo February 18, 2020 at 3:35 am

Man, that was a brutal wreck… Glad to hear he’s alive. We came pretty damn close to having another 2001 Daytona 500…
But on the up side, this just further proves how safe these cars are. Say what you will about the on track racing and what not, but safety is critical above all else.

Reply
KILL February 18, 2020 at 3:37 am

Regardless of how you feel about the package, the fact that these cars keep getting obliterated and people keep coming out without life threatening injuries is more important than going 200+

Reply
Cat Dad February 18, 2020 at 3:51 am

My God, it’s like Dale Sr. in 2001 all over again. Final lap at the Daytona 500 and everything goes wrong. So glad Ryan had a better outcome. Really heartlifting to hear his injuries are not life threatening.

BaDArtz February 18, 2020 at 3:51 am

I haven’t seen an accident this bad in this sport in years. I’ve been watching since 2003-ish and in that time most crazy accidents of this caliber had the drivers walk away. I’m just glad Newman is okay.

Matthew Medina February 18, 2020 at 6:15 am

I’m so thankful Newman is okay. Anyways that was one of the best 500’s I have ever seen. Great finish!

This accident is a lesson for us. I’m honestly surprised, going 200 miles per hour and he survives that is an amazing thing. Hope Newman a speedy recovery
