While there has been plenty of fun and good racing that we have seen with the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series season there has also been real and legitimate controversy as well. Lately the older, grizzly veterans like Kyle Busch and Denny Hamlin have been the ones that have stolen the headlines, well until one more veteran entered the fray. Kevin Harvick. Today Kevin Harvick went scorched Earth on NASCAR.

What do you think of Harvick’s thoughts on the sport?
Harvick wanting to shorten races is a big no, Xfinity and Trucks run shorter races and he could start running in either of those series full time
Harvick’s not wrong
All he does is complain , that’s my thought.
My man sees nascar making constant and unnecessary changes. And this time one that is hurting drivers. Also his son plans on racing one day also. So iam sure that’s on his mind. Fearda#4
His points are valid. Glad to see him speaking up, and I hope all the other drivers do the same.
Harvick is one of my favourite drivers ever because of stuff like that. More drivers need to be more outspoken and share their opinions on the sport. It will make the sport better in every way.
If ur Hamlin fans I say he should be penalized as well much as Byron so no scot free sorry I’m Byron fan too
I think Some of it is some of the drivers just worried that they’re going to get fined by NASCAR for speaking out but some of these drivers like Harvick have been around long enough they’re like
I really thought Keslowski would have spoken up more about the tire issues this past weekend. I’m disappointed he isn’t being louder.
NASCAR ACTS LIKE THEY ARE THE SPOILED KIDS BEING LECTURED TO BY ADULTS WHEN DRIVERS SPEAK UP. DRIVERS SHOUKD BE ALLOWED TO CRITICIZE, GIVE ADVICE WITHOUT FEAR OF BEING PENALIZED SOMEHOW. AND HOW IS IT THAT A DRIVER DELIBERATELY WRECKS ANOTHER DURING A CAUTION AND NOT BE PENALIZED. NOT SORRY, BUT THIS IS WHY I AND I KNOW A LOT OF OTHERS THAT DO NOT WATCH NASCAR BECAUSE SHENANIGANS LIKE THIS.
We need more drivers like Kevin who aren’t afraid to speak up.
Kevin and Kyle definitely have their tempers, but they’re also very experienced and we should value their input. Period.
We need more Americans to stand up..
There’s been many over the years, NASCAR made sure they didn’t stay around long.
@Dexter Hochstetler drivers who whine when things dont go there way are crybabies.drivers who complain about safety and such arent crybabies.
Honestly, I’m just still trying to get over what the hell happened yesterday
That was an embarrassment
Brickyard 2008, nothing has changed.
Same. Watching this rulette table shlit show was exhausting, an embarrassment
@Iron Panther
Hoosier can not get enough supplies to build the tires they are committed to build today.
Their Sprint Car tires are much worse than Goodyear’s NASCAR tires right now.
Making dumb statements without any knowledge about today’s issues helps no one and makes you look like an idiot.
Hoosier nor Goodyear are able to buy quality supplies until our country moves to a dollar that has some value. The rest of this world no longer accepts our fake democrat money.
@Iron Panther The tires and the stupid single wheel nut are going to get someone killed. At least with 20 lug nuts we saw great skills by the tire changers in the pit and 1 loose nut out of 20 is a vibration while one loose nut out of 4 is going to get someone killed.
You think Kevin is doing justice? NASCAR better be happy Tony is retired…. We would have endless hours of sound bites if he was still behind the wheel.
Ok?? But he is retired so what’s ur point!?
@ralph crisp Anyone that speaks up usually gets fired or banned.
The whole point of the stage system is to get the drivers to race throughout the race instead of driving 350 miles in circles to a 50 mile race.
I agree that stage breaks are absolutely ridiculous, not only do they disrupt the flow of the race, they also take away more strategy calls and eliminate any chance of setting a race record. NASCAR has continually made some real bonehead calls in the past few weeks. Great video.
100% correct!!!
@Ka Gg so true, the old scoring system gave 5 bonus points for leading the most laps and winning the race. Stage points was supposed to make everyone race harder all the time, I also don’t agree with the wave around rule.
@Greg Simon in terms of the old system, I think leading the most laps should have given more points, but I also think the points from first to second to third to Fourth should have been bigger also.
Stage racing is the biggest travesty to ever hit NASCAR.
@Naveed Quadeer If stages took this form and were simply a marketing term for points awarding intervals, I would have no problem with them.
In their current form, however, I think that they convolute the points and race format, encourage hasty and reckless driving as evidenced by all of the heavy wrecks we have seen throughout their existence at every track, and contribute to the destruction of what must now be millions of dollars of equipment.
The last point stands out to me because teams have been complaining about supply shortages and costs, yet continue to support a race format that almost always results in damaged, totaled equipment, and driver injuries. I wish that they would actually stand up to whoever makes these poor decisions.
Keep em’ coming! Harvick got into NASCAR when it still was something special back in the Gen 4 era and he knows what both NASCAR fans and drivers like
He inherited Earnhardt’s Cup-winning team when Childress was still around and not hunting in Africa. His entire Cup career was dropped into his lap. All he had to do was say Yes, sir and cash the checks.
He doesn’t know what Fans want… his Likes have changed due to his Age. Only like 1 thing he said and that’s about the Stage racing needs to go… outside of that. the old man needs to retire..
@Evo -SkyCat- wait so you think it’s ok for nascar to just “not see” when drivers spin each other out under caution?
I’ve been watching nascar religiously since the 70s but I haven’t really paid as much attention since they started stage racing. I usually record the race and skip the first two stages. This year I’ve watched the highlights on YouTube. I don’t like the playoffs either but stage racing is what killed the vibe for me.
Its cheaper to go to the circus and the food is better.
I feel the same way. I thought the stages ruined the flow of the race and made the points format more nonsensical; I haven’t watched a race in any of the main three series since.
I do still enjoy the Whelen Modified, ARCA, Whelen Euro, and Pinty’s series though specifically because they don’t include gimmicks to make the racing more “exciting”.
I totally agree with Harvick on the stage breaks, very rid of the stages all together. I also agree with the “under review” point. Why not have that, at any point they can give them a drive through penalty. One thing that bothers me and I know why they do it but every single race starts soooo late in the day. Then you run into weather or some other stoppage and you get a 6 hour total race. The east cost people have to deal with late starts on west coast races why not bring the earlier east coast starts back. The next generation car seems like it has really weak parts. A somewhat small hit into the wall with the side of the car bends a track bar. I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many bent track bars in NASCAR.
Let’s remove stage breaks but not the stages themselves. When a stage ends, award points based on position at the end of that stage but stay green and keep going. It would add a whole new level of strategy to the races.
@SkaldLouisCyphre With all the advertising on the cars, NASCAR is one 3+ hour long commercial anyway. I always skip commercials. Done with their social engineering and woke agenda.
@SkaldLouisCyphre Well for a FACT Woke is an agenda with totally ignores science and instead supports a mental illness. And I never disputed racing paid bills with ad dollars but they have jumped the shark having to use paid streaming/cable service for many races AND running ads ad nauseam. Either carry the races with ads on over the air free TV or if only carried on paid for services then no ads. You have shown to be closed minded by thinking Woke is real.
While, we’re at it, I think they should gut the playoffs as well so that championships are simply won by having consistent, measured race performances. If we only had stages as you describe them, NASCAR would be like IMSA where points are awarded at certain intervals of the race. I believe the series would be much better this way.
@Max16032 I’m personally convinced that there are other ways to solve this problem without affecting the core racing product, and every other auto racing championship in the world has implemented them.
NASCAR, like F1 did with Mother’s wax, could strike a deal with a sponsor to pay for the broadcasting costs and present the coverage as a sponsor, allowing races to be commercial free. They could wait longer during the races before they cut to a commercial break. They could add more ads to the pre-race show. They could perhaps go to an ad break anytime a legitimate caution for a wreck or spin happens.
Considering the above, I can’t help but wish that advertisers could prioritize making ads that actually feature NASCAR vehicles and drivers alongside appealing visuals and interesting scripts that people would actually want to watch, like those of the ’80s-early 2000s, NASCAR’s peak in popularity. I think this would considerably mitigate the problem of prominent ad breaks.
I understand your argument, but I still don’t think the stages are the right way to address the problem. I think the time has come for them to be retired.
I know people hate Harvick but we love him for speaking his mind
Interesting idea for stages (if NASCAR wants to keep the point system). Make them “Flying Stages” where the races don’t go to caution but there are still running a 3 stage event. It could make the race more exciting by shaking up the strategy game.
Take it a little further as right now there is a lot of cruising during non-critical portions of the race. On every lap award 40 points for 1st, 39 for 2nd, 28 for 3rd etc down to 1 for 40th. Now every lap is important. A 500 lap race would have 500 laps of all out racing instead of a handful near the end of a stage or the race.
I remember ole DW looking right at the TV camera and telling the world NASCAR can’t stop this, everyone see’s and hears. NASCAR is becoming more and more of a joke and that is really sad.
This is why he’s been my favorite driver, he’s not scared to speak his mind and definitely is huge on the safety of the drivers. The points system and stage breaks are trash. Makes it boring to me.
One of the reasons I like Harvick so much is his ability to speak up. He just doesn’t care and speaks what’s on his mind.
I was at Atlanta in 1990 when Mike Rich got crushed on pit road when Ricky Rudd spun and hit Bill Elliotts car while it was being serviced. Being a Elliott fan I was watching his pit stop and saw it all unfold. Pit Road is definitely not the place for pushing and shoving. Last year I visited the Georgia Motorsports Hall of Fame and was glad to see that they had a Mike Rich display in the museum. I was also at Atlanta when Grant Adcox was killed in 1989. That was a rough few years there at Atlanta. RIP Mike Rich and Grant Adcox.
Been an Elliott fan since I was a kid in the 80s, glad they remember the men that died doing the behind the scenes work and pit guys and also the lesser known drivers. It was their hobby and passion, a lot of unfortunate circumstances
To me the stages can ruin it. Because pitting and fuel strategy play out on a grand scale without them which made nascar more fascinating
I’ve hated the stage breaks. Like I see what they are trying to do. But I miss early 2000’s nascar racing. And we just keep getting further from it.
