Two wrecks never seem to make these videos…. both happened in the mid 1990’s Taledega race, first bill Elliot flips and then Gordon takes out ken Schrader and send him flipping down the track, one was a red flag.

How these guys manage to get out of these crashes largely unscathed or with relatively minor injuries I will never know. Great stuff.
Six point harnesses (shoulders, hips, crotch and head), crumple zones, and fire retardant everything. *F1 racers used to lose their legs a lot before “crumple zones”, the same basic concept as road cars.
Because a lot of people died to learn how to build the car and the racetrack better.
There’s an old saying in mining about “tombstone regulations”. For every regulation in the book, there’s a tombstone in a graveyard somewhere and how they died is why that rule exists.
In racing, names like Villeneuve, Earnhardt, Senna, Bianchi, Moore, Wheldon, Wilson….the list goes on and on. Recommendations after their accidents became enshrined in regulations so it doesn’t happen again.
