Like Eric Estepp said it’s not Joe Gibbs Racing anymore, it’s Ty Gibbs Racing

That’s not what he meant by that, but ok.

It’s actually a smart, good move. It’s respectful of Kyle he earned it to have it temporarily retired, it will be back in time and Now Ty is not Further linked with Busch.

Charlotte Andor November 26, 2022 at 3:36 am

Further linked with Busch? Was the 54 not the number of KBM’s xfinity car for that 1-2 years he had a program going, then brought it to JGR when he resumed running for them?

Unless I am wrong, I really do not get how he could possibly be any more linked to KFB, and what he did for JGR as a whole.

@Charlotte AndorYou are not wrong. But we are talking As a Driver on Cup level, Busch is known for 18. Its a PR move.

To the shock of no one, so much for those ‘consequences’ from his actions from Martinsville lol

Wdym. The consequences are he’s not allowed to drive the 18 car LOL

It was the right thing to do because it would have been really bad had Joe given his grandson the 18 car. It just makes sense for him to be able to create his own legacy in the 54 for the cup series..

This is kind of like what happened with the 88. After Dale Jr. retired, we all thought that the 88 would stay around, but dale jr left and hendrick dropped the 88 car. Only difference is is that Alex bowman chose 48 because if he didnt drive the 48, we wouldn’t see him today.

Reply
John Haas November 16, 2022 at 2:32 am

88 might have stayed if Kyle would have been able to drive the 48 but Ally said nope because of the N word he used

Well you don’t have to worry about a thing because Kyle Busch will not gel with Richard childress racing he will have nothing problems he will cause nothing but problems and like I’ve said for the biggest crybaby in NASCAR what better sponsor than depends adult diapers go boo who to that and wipe your eyes national television to that cry baby boy

What are you talking about Jimmie Johnson left and they dropped the 88 Jimmie Johnson had nothing to do with the 88 car hello McFly Jimmie Johnson drove the 48 car Dale Earnhardt Jr drove the 88 car thank you

The 5 car from 1984 to 2018:
First time?

Reply
MxneyyyyGaming December 24, 2022 at 6:52 pm

@Robert Digby y’all are answering a question that wasn’t even asked… The guy that commented is mentioning how Hendrick stopped using the 5 after 2017 when the 5 was the very first number used by HMS

Reply
Robert Digby December 24, 2022 at 7:08 pm

@MxneyyyyGaming well Kyle Larson has driven the 5 for two seasons, kasey kahne drove the 5 , Kyle Busch drove the 5 their may have been others but Hendricks DOES still use the 5 , remember Larson was champion in the 5 just last year. And the question was 5 car from 1984-2018 first time? And myself as well as others have pointed out a lot of people drove the 5 car from the 80’s all the way up to now. He has always used the 5 that I remember since it was his first car in the the Winston Cup series

Reply
MxneyyyyGaming December 24, 2022 at 10:28 pm

@Robert Digby I get what you’re saying but I think his comment was just pointing out that the 5 went unused from 2018-2020 before it was brought back for Larson… Nothing to do with who drove it before but they’re just mentioning that the 18 not being used next year isn’t the first time a team has stopped using an iconic number for a season or two. Wouldn’t be surprised to see the 18 come back in a couple of years

Reply
MxneyyyyGaming December 24, 2022 at 10:30 pm

@Robert Digby I know the comment seems like he thinks the 5 went unused from 1984-2018 but he meant that it was used from 1984-2018 and then dropped once Kasey left Hendrick that’s all lol

Reply
Robert Digby December 25, 2022 at 3:29 am

@MxneyyyyGaming could be I never thought we would see the 3 car anymore either but now we have Austin Dillon stinking it up. And to be honest I forgot Casey Mears and Mark Martin also drove the 5

It’s interesting that it’s going to be gone, but putting a new driver in the 54 versus the 18… I don’t feel strongly about either move.

Coming from other sports, I like the idea that a driver gets their own number to self identify while the champion if the last season can choose to have number 1 representing them as the reigning champion. Though team numbers and legacy is a decent part of Nascar to which I like its uniqueness. Either way I don’t dislike it, as it saves a number from possibly being tarnished and instead lets the kid build upon his own number and legacy.

Going further back, Petty Enterprises put the 43 on hiatus for the 1993 season, fielding the 44 of Rick Wilson instead.

Also, Coy Gibbs drove the 18 during his stints in ARCA and the Busch Series. This may have been another factor in JGR’s decision.

I think it speaks volumes that people care more about the number Gibbs is running than the fact he’s driving in Cup next year, the kid has talent but having the fans overwhelmingly against you is gonna make your career short lived no matter who you are

Reply
Deric Cribbs November 22, 2022 at 3:43 pm

There once was this guy he used to drive the 18 car that the fans were overwhelmingly against. From what I remember I think he did all right.
Winners don’t make excuses and Ty brought his own shoes.

If you know anything about NASCAR it’s not unlike the WWF you got the good guys and he got the bad guys and Kyle Busch is a bad guy big old sissy lala

@Chris Fuller were you watching the first driver introductions after Kyle signed with RCR? Cause they cheered Luke he cured cancer. From villain to hero, that deal is done. Maybe there’s wrestling reference for a time a villain changed teams.

I would not be surprised that when Hamlin leaves the #11 goes to 23XI and the #18 comes back

Kyle bush also had previously owed the #54 In the xifinity series years ago. He won a lot of racing in the 18,20 and 54 car.

They gave him the 54 because they want to continue with the legacy that he started of that number. Just think about it, he already has more than 10 Xfinity wins and a Championship, Joe Gibbs definitely wants that number to be legendary one day.

Yes a true Nascar fan the original 18 was an interstate battery car go go labonte Kyle Busch’s inherited it and they had to put some candy canes on his car if I can some Eminem’s and some jujubes and some zoom zooms and wham whams how many races did he win this year seems to me that the focus was taken off of Kyle Busch children’s seems to think he has a superstar in the making he’s on his way out he’s phased out he’s faded he ain’t going to win with children no way shape or form he’s trying to feel some shoes that can never be filled that blues man is long gone and that belong to the intimidator children’s thoroughbred race horse they all get one curious as it is petty was his own Jimmy Johnson Jeff Gordon or Hendrick Hendrick has a lot of golden eggs so Chase Elliott which is my driver by the way I’ve had Chase Elliott Dale Jr Dale Sr Harry Gant Carol yarbrough as my selected top gun number one drivers in my career NASCAR has a fan

I kinda liked that the 18 had become the villain car(deserved or not). I had hoped Ty would hop right in and cherish the role of villain, wouldn’t even phase him. Either way Ty is the new villain and
Kyle is the instant good guy (by manufacturer affiliation). Even though he gets a long deserved hero status now, I’ll bet there’s an unsaid bond between the two because Kyle knows exactly what he’s about to go through. This is going to be a fun season to watch

Looks like kids racing is out anyways the old man’s getting tired anybody want to pick up a race team fairly reasonable priced watch a real jump on that Joe Gibbs racing has been played with bad luck once again

Reply
shelley king December 4, 2022 at 10:13 pm

Well, that will make a perfect, easy-to-see target for all the “lessons” that need to be taught to Gibbs. If Ty finishes a single Cup race, the rest of the field should be ashamed.
