What do you think is the biggest story in NASCAR for 2023?

I think it’s also worth noting that KBM moving to Chevy, is also bringing Chevy ARCA team Rev Racing up by having a technical alliance with them so they can expand their reach and bringing up 2022 ARCA Champion Nick Sanchez, previous teammate of Rajah Caruth. Lots of good stories going into this season

NASCAR’s 75th anniversary. The sport has been through a oil crisis in the early 70’s, a recession in 2008, and now a pandemic. It’s absolutely amazing how the sport is still here today.

I’m actually excited for the 2023 season despite a horrible ending till 2022 with Alex Bowman’s concussion, the Bubba Wallace and Kyle Larson Las Vegas incident, officiating blunders, and the driver who won the Xfinity championship lost his father the very next day

The biggest story that’s not talked about is Andretti’s impact if he does or doesn’t go to F1. I believe whatever happens will enormously impact American motorsports

Camilla quella degli aggettivi January 27, 2023 at 2:46 am

Especially if they do manage to set up a pipeline for American drivers to get into F1, like they said they wanted to

I like the idea of Jr partnering with Andretti and JTG Daughtery. Still believe it would smart to wait on the new engine.

I’m going to the cup race at Gateway this year.

Another possible story for this year is that this might be the final year of the Indy RC & the doubleheader with Indycar. This is because NASCAR will likely go back to the Brickyard 400 for next year & on the Indycar side there will be one Indy RC race per season the one before the Indy 500 (Indy GP) going forward. The 2nd Indy RC date will likely be replaced by one of two things: a return to Sonoma or a return to Mexico City. Also this is the last year of Indycar’s current TV deal with NBC & the fate of that will likely determine their interest in NASCAR for the TV deal that begins in 2025.

JackLikesTrackhouse January 27, 2023 at 2:50 am

They could very well still hold the doubleheader. It wouldn’t take much to change the road course back to the oval and vice versa. Maybe instead it becomes a one-day thing for both series.

The biggest NASCAR storyline this year is the TV deal for 2025 and beyond. They should stay with FOX and NBC since there’s an increase in network TV races every year and ESPN doesn’t care about NASCAR. They need to add mufflers if they ever want to race at the Fairgrounds again.

Reply
Cole Murray January 27, 2023 at 4:27 am

I agree with you. I actually don’t want ESPN to show races cuz I don’t have cable and there won’t be a lotta people getting cable just to watch NASCAR. Besides, ain’t ESPN woke? It just doesn’t make any sense.

Is NBC going to put a better deal than let’s say Disney? NBC might be looking to put races exclusively on peacock and Disney might not with it’s streaming service. It’s all comes down to dollars NASCAR puts out the deal for bids

I feel like Kyle Busch can have a Dale Sr effect like Sr basically launched rcr I think Kyle relaunches it and helps make RCR up there with the Hendricks again. I also think that Jimmay will surprise people either by doing well like maybe contending for a win at dover if he races there or he does worse somehow than the 2018-2020 Jimmay

reddick is a better driver than busch currently, so that’s a big reach imo

@TheSeanie Is he really? I think Busch is the better driver right now.

Can’t wait to see the fontana race since it is the last race with it’s current configuration. Last year’s race was good, so let’s go out with a bang.

Following the Ross Chastain Ride Wall, I found myself thrust into NASCAR YouTube and after childhood years of watching it if it’s on through basically ignoring it, this is looking like the first season I’m actually going to go out of my way to follow. Even managed to convince my old man that we should head up to Pocono for both of our first races in person.

Devin Hull January 27, 2023 at 4:45 am

Get the pit pass. It’s not much and really cool to be able to hangout all race behind pit wall if you wanted. I went in 2001 and 2021 and last time it was fantastic being so close to the garages and pits during the race.

One thing I’m happy about is the summer Atlanta race being moved to a night race. I went this last year to the July race and I was absolutely miserable sitting in the stands how hot it was. If your from the south like me yall know how brutal our summers can be and how humid it is along with the heat. Also as a Kevin Harvick fan and him being my favorite driver this year is gonna be a roller coaster of emotions for me personally

I personally would like to see 3 broadcast networks host NASCAR in a single season. That could ramp up the argument over who is better at covering the sport. It would be great to see ESPN come back as they have been a big part in the history of the sport!

John Haas January 27, 2023 at 11:33 am

I know it might not happen since he’s reserve this year, but I hope Trackhouse can get Danny Ric in the 91 for a road course this year. Maybe COTA since he already has knowledge there. With him being such a big fan of NASCAR, I think it would be a dream pairing.
