I see the teams publicly stating what they want could be a good thing and NASCAR may be playing ball, as seen with 23XI expansion and RFK’s president being open about the positive direction!

I think Hooters should use both the dark and light schemes for night races and day races.

I hate the new one from last year

If they were the main sponsor then i would say its possible but that is Napa’s slot.

I think that too

Good for the teams! I’m sure they won’t get that much, but I hope they get as much as possible.

I’m not surprised that Toyota is looking to expand the field to other teams, as they are already seeing JGR slowly fall since Kyle’s departure and now with the issue of Hamlin and his sponsor. That is why they do not waste time and begin to look for other options before the couch team ends up in decline as happened with Roush.

And JGR’s future is murky waters with Coy Gibbs’ passing, leaving a hole in the team’s future leadership. 23XI is clearly being groomed as the new flagship team for Toyota, and getting supporting sister teams would be great for them, rekindling the JGR/MWR days from 2011-2013, something Toyota has desperately chased since Spingate

@Andrew Meyer 23XI will be the top Toyota team in the next 3 or 4 years.

if the purses were doubled, we’d see so many less pay-drivers since teams wouldn’t be relying on sponsorship money…

F1 would say otherwise…

Sadly pay drivers have been part of motorsports ever since money became essential

As an avid Hooters car enjoyer, I like a good mix of light and dark schemes. They both work well so I’m fine with a little bit of everything. Looks way better than Chase’s Napa scheme for this year

I dont buy many Elliott die casts but that new scheme is fire, and will be joining my collection.

I could see Kaulig switching to Toyota. They have an Xfinity feeder team and an established B-Tier Cup team. There’s also room to grow in both series.

Toyota needs another “tier 1” team to lead their own alliance within Toyota. Chevy has Hendrick alliances and RCR alliances separately. Ford has Penske, SHR, and RFK leading alliances. Toyota is just TRD all in one, if they could get JGR and 23XI to lead separately (while also snagging a team probably from Chevy) I feel they’d be a lot more successful

Furniture Row lost a huge sponsor when 5 Hour Energy got sued into oblivion. The owner just didn’t want to use his own money even having won a title and got tons of marketing exposure. LFR was never a big team, never won, never got past one car and had financial problems. Both are bad examples to use.

One quick change I would at least like to see in the charter system.
NASCAR creates one new charter and auctions it off. At the end of the year the last chartered team in points looses that charter. It is then auctioned off the following year. Therefore every year at least 1 charter is available.

Would have to get team owners to agree with it

Anthony Campos-Yaede January 30, 2023 at 11:53 pm

Giving the teams more media deal money would bring in more sponsors as the prices asked would drop since it’s not gonna be the majority of the money used to run the car, and it will lead to less pay drivers and more talent with more performance based winnings. At least that’s what I think would happen

Reply
Christian Witte January 31, 2023 at 2:02 am

I hope so! I was even thinking maybe we’d see a era where many cars would run without sponsors. That’d be wild

Taking a percentage of revenue from the tracks might actually force them to focus selling tix and at track experience. Teams cost cutting is what’s killing Nascar while other series continue to grow in popularity.

Joe Gibbs Racing has been intentionally killing Toyota teams for years so I really don’t feel bad for Toyota that they want more teams. I hope they don’t get anybody new.

That dark Hooters scheme looks slick. As far as the negotiations, I’m just hoping that everyone will come to an agreement that everyone will be happy with. I wonder what will happen if there won’t be an agreement between the teams and NASCAR? A dreadful split or just more negotiating?

Eric, you had mentioned J. T. G. As a potential Toyota team in future. Do you think Toyota would try to talk to Trackhouse in switching? I like both Hooters schemes but my favorite is the night owl. Great insightful video as always.
