The Rockingham Speedway is one of the most storied tracks in the history of NASCAR. While being off the NASCAR Cup Series schedule since 2004 and out of NASCAR completely since 2013 it looks like now more than ever a return may be in the cards. So today we are going to look into it and give reasons for why and why not on this. So, will NASCAR return to Rockingham? The pros and cons.

Do you think Rockingham will come back to NASCAR?
@JJA1987 The fairgrounds will happen only if the fair board and the Metro council aprove But that sounds like it’s going to be not in every year thing
@Aaron SRX has a better chance of racing at Rockingham then NASCAR does
@Aaron Springborn Rockingham isn’t coming to nascar Because NASCAR’s not going to rent the track or speedway Motorsports rent the track and they’re not giving up a date
@Ticona2, road courses are great but too many can be boring. We also need to cut the Indy RC. I’d like us to go to the Daytona RC just because of how much history that course has.
Might be an interesting option for the All-Star race to start with.
For me, I’d like to see Rockingham back in some capacity, considering it’s proximity to teams bases and the fact many drivers cut their teeth here, it would be neat to see NASCAR return there. And it was a fun track to watch as a fan imo.
It needs to return. It’s probably the greatest example of a “talent over equipment” track. Steve Park & Johnny Benson proved this.
I would be excited to see Rockingham back
They really should bring back this track. Such good racing when they did go here and it’s truly a wonder as to why they decided to just stop
Because Brian France and Eddie Gossage and now they’re both gone for good.
The rock is the size of track that the next gen would excel at. I miss those races I remember how tight it was,
The Rock will provide great racing because of how challenging the track is with different lanes
Rockingham is a great track, fun to watch, fun to race on sim, I really hope it comes back!
It would be great to see the Rock back. Going back to their roots is always a good thing.
There is NO cons to bringing the Rock back. Classic track, challenging and the fans loved it despite the fact that NASCAR killed the track w piss poor scheduling for the spring date.
There is cons though. If the fans don’t show up then it won’t be worth it. Also I wouldn’t be surprised if seats get removed just to get more seats at the start finish line like they did with Daytona an also build a bigger press box.
I would love a comeback to The Rock. It’s a nostalgic track that produced great racing in the early 2000’s and when the trucks came back. I was sad when it went off the schedule. It’s one of my favorite tracks. I would love for it to comeback. However they haven’t raced there in 10 years so how will the track be? How will the track race? A lot of question marks will be around if NASCAR decides to comeback. I say go for it.
I watched the 2004 race where Kenseth and Kahne photo finished. That was one of the most exciting race experiences I’ve watched in a long time. The racing was great and they could go anywhere on the track. There were comers and goers but the best cars always found a way to get back to the front
I think Rockingham needs to be on the schedule. Here’s why Nascar is a sport born out of the southeast and that’s the fans that helped build the sport. If the support in the southeastern states gets big the sport will grow once more. The blue collar people are the ones NASCAR needs right now and then target the newer fans. Rockingham was always a great race when it was on the schedule especially the last 4-5 years it ran races.
I would love to see Rockingham return, and I think it will sell big.
My favorite memory from the Rock was Steve Park winning in 2001.
Finally getting closer to bringing the Rock back. I like the idea of replacing the Kansas spring date but with Auto Club’s new configuration, the Rock could go back to the date it once had the week after the Daytona 500. I would love to see Trucks, Xfinity, and Cup at the Rock and Wilkesboro for 2024.
One week after the Daytona 500, the weather is still iffy in February here in NC. Later in the spring would be nice though.
@bluegrassboy2448 Agreed. I would love to see a race at Rockingham sometime in April or May (perhaps the week after Darlington, where Kansas is on the schedule now). That way, as Iceberg says, we can have the Darlington throwback race, then the Rock, then North Wilkesboro for the All-Star Race, and finally Charlotte for the 600 – creating a relative homestand in the Carolinas for the drivers and teams. I think that would be a brilliant idea.
I personally would love for them to bring rockingham back
For me yes absolutely would love to see it in all the series I grew up watching this era of the rock
It’s a spectacular track and I’m sure the NextGen would make for some great racing there.
Absolutely, Bring it Back!
I wasn’t a NASCAR fan until after Rockingham was removed. But I watch many classic replays of races from different eras of NASCAR and the Rockingham races were by FAR my favorite! So I’m pretty stoked at the idea of it returning.
I want Rockingham back, I just wish it had different dates than it had back when it was a track on the schedule.
