Dinwiddie would only make one more attempt at Cup later in 1981 at Talladega, again missing the show. His final (known) stock car attempt came in ARCA in 1982 at Talladega, where he came in 30th as a Did Not Start, one of three DNS’
The title is so misleading. The field slowed down significantly by the time they came up on the accident. Nice clickbait!

This was the worst place to wreck off turn 4. Lajoie, Waltrip, Rudd and others had theirs including a fiery crash during a consolation race for the Daytona 500.
Amazing how long it took for tracks to make safer walls. Most tracks in those days were littered with used tires after a race and a tire wall is cheap and easy to make
