I’m assuming you mis spoke because you usually know your stuff, but Spencer won several nascar races…

HOW IS THIS RACE CONTROVERSIAL?

Andy Hayner February 16, 2023 at 4:01 pm

The fact that the 2000 Daytona 500 is considered ‘the worst’ is by far the biggest controversy I’ve ever seen. Does anyone even remember the 2020 Daytona 500? The biggest highlight up until they came to the finish was that it rained. Does anyone have any form of recollection at all of the highlight we saw when they came to the finish? I stand my case.

Jimmy Spencer pulled into Victory Lane before anyone knew who won. What a legend.

@334 Outdoors it wasn’t his first run in officials. If it meant he could have his fun with it, may as well

I’d expect nothing less from him tbh

I’m definitely biased since I’ve been a Kurt Busch fan for over two decades, but the only thing legendary about him is his temper.

He pulled a Lightning McQueen

Jimmy Spencer definitely won 2 races in his Cup series career. Both came in 1994, one was at Daytona.

Other one was at Dega in 94′. He is also 1 of 40 drivers(currently) to win a race in all 3 top NASCAR series.

@MiniMax Diesel Dude if you don’t mind me asking but who are the current active drivers on that list?

Reply
DoomusRLC February 16, 2023 at 3:44 am

@Xavier Juno off the top of my head…. Keselowski, Logano, Busch, Reddick, Chastain, Austin Dillon, Hamlin, Almirola, Elliott, Blaney, Cindric, Suarez, Bell, Harvick, Larson, Custer

He won at least a couple Busch races, as well as two restrictor plate races in ’94 for Junior Johnson.

Not only is this one of the few races in NASCAR history with multiple flips, but I’m pretty sure this is the only race in NASCAR history we’re both vehicles that flipped over were able to drive away.

I thought that was the most noteable thing too! That was some crazy good luck in the same race

Reply

The truck race at Knoxville last year had one that flipped and kept going, but two!!!!

Nathan Stroud February 16, 2023 at 1:23 am

“As for Jimmy Spencer, he would never come closer than this to winning a NASCAR race in his career, in any series.”

I think he meant to say for the remainder of his career. Jimmy Spencer did win races.

Stenthouse Jr being behind Hamilton was like a ominous foreshadowing of him becoming Wrecky Stenthouse

I really thought Spencer won it until replay says otherwise. Missed Bobby Hamilton though.

A quick note on the driver shown at 4:40 Shige Hattori. In addition to the Truck Series, he also competed in CART & IRL from the late 90’s-early 2000’s. He currently owns his own team in the Truck Series as well as in the GT4 America Series.

I remember this race and was pulling for Jimmy Spencer at the time and I was pissed when Spencer didn’t win. Not that I didn’t like Hamilton because I did but I wanted Jimmy to win that race.

Now I know why Stenhouse wrecks the entire field. His young, impressionable mind took inspiration from this race.
