While not a big piece of NASCAR anymore the practice of buschwhacking was once a tried and true normal practice in the two lower divisions. So today what we are going to do is look at the 10 most dominant NASCAR Cup Series drivers that went down and wrecked the NASCAR Xfinity Series and the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series through the years. These are the top 10 NASCAR Buschwhackers.

Did you love or hate it when Cup guys dominated the lower series?
I enjoyed seeing all the cup guys battling the younger guys, it didn’t bother me, you knew when the young guns were ready to move up, however after the great last season in xfinity, I do enjoy the current system now
It didnt bother me until the guys were only allowed to run for points in one season
Do more how good was he videos that would be nice. Here some ideas: Paul Menard, Jeff Burton, Ward Burton,
Brian Vickers, Jeremy Mayfield, and David Ragan.
With Harvick and Logano win the Busch Championship while driving full time Cup Series. It kinda broke the good
Definitely a pro. Would like to see the F1 drivers drop down to F2 and test themselves. Also you can see no good drivers are
They could make it so you’d have to pay tens of thousands of dollars for every race you do in a lower series, and Kyle Busch would still be doing it
Why am I not surprised that Kyle Busch is number 1
Ironically, for a guy that capitalized on Harvick driving in Xfinity in 2006, Kyle Busch is the best of all time when it comes to Buschwacking.
The #1 Buschwacker is Kyle Busch obviously. It says it in the name. I know the term came from the Busch Series at the time but Busch is the all time Buschwacker with 102 wins at that level (currently).
5 of them were as a series regular, though.
@nascarfanatic2425 those were the only ones that ACTUALLY matter when and before he came to Cup
@Brian Griffin Family Guy Fan To be fair, Hendrick Motorsports’ Busch/Xfinity Series program didn’t have much going for it with Kyle Krisiloff failing miserably and other drivers not doing so well, and Kyle didn’t compete full-time between 2005 and 2008. Still, what’s more irritating than his Buschwacking is his fans defending it.
@nascarfanatic2425 exactly
I know he doesn’t have as many wins as other guys but Clint Bowyer managed to win the 2008 Nationwide Series championship with only 1 win at a rain-shortened Bristol event. He was just remarkably consistent the rest of the season. That’s pretty damn impressive considering he had to beat out his other Buschwhacking competitors for the title.
The 2021 Daniel Hemric and 2003 Matt Kenseth special
Not gonna lie, I’m okay with Cup drivers driving in lower levels every once in a while. I think it is good for the lower series drivers to be able to see how they compare to some of the best stock car racing has to offer.
Yea but looked what happened with the Hamlin Almorola case. Sponsors get so power hungry with the cup drivers, that they’ll go the extra mile to _prevent_ those developing drivers to even get in those cars
@Less Go sure I’m not denying that. But I still think there can be a benefit to cup drivers racing in a lower series. If there has to be a policy in place to avoid the Hamlin-Almirola situation that’s fine with me.
It’s not. It takes away the spotlight from them.
But the spotlight will be brighter if the lower series people can beat the cup drivers. Or at least it should. If you can beat them you deserve the credit and spotlight.
Yeah, I’m honestly okay with it now with the five race cap. I think that fixed most of the issues I had with it. Nowadays, drivers dipping down feel more like special events rather than the norm. It’s not just Kyle Busch vs the Penske driver of the week every race. Plus the limited seat time keeps them from getting overly dominant when they do show up. The XFINITY and Truck guys are the stars of the show, as it should be.
Plus, you still have the “star cars”, but they pad out the races not done by cup guys by giving opportunities to lower series drivers. Ross Chastain and Ryan Preece would still be in no-name XFINITY equipment, if the limits didn’t force teams and sponsors to take a chance on new talent, even for a couple races. You also have Cup guys driving for actual XFINITY and Truck teams again instead of top shelf cars fielded by their Cup team (Even if the Cup team are still lending support). So them showing up every once in a while actually benefits new talent and teams this way, rather than drowning them out and taking sponsorship.
Something crazy about all these drivers going into the lower leagues but KB was the only one truly dominant enough to forever change the rule. Also why did you mention Dale Sr. Building his team through this when KB did the same thing when he started KB motor sports?
Absolutely have Kyle Busch on top of this list. In 2009, while running Full Time in Cup, Kyle also ran the full Xfinty series season, and won the Xfinity series championship.
Who else likes that the trophy hunter is back this season? As someone who’s going to see one of those races this season, I know I am!
I was at that Almirola/Hamlin swap race at Milwaukee in 2009. I still remember how loud the crowd booed when Hamlin was getting in!
Think it was 07 cos the 20 was still a Chevy
10. Dale Earnhardt 2:10
9. Tony Stewart 3:08
8. Dale Earnhardt 4:01
7. Joey Logano 4:50
6. Denny Hamlin 5:39
5. Carl Edwards 6:51
4. Brad Keselowski 7:54
3. Kevin Harvick 8:39
2. Mark Martin 9:23
1. Kyle Busch 10:28
Jeff Burton needs to be in there somewhere though he won alot of Busch races as a cup driver
I think NASCAR resolved this best they possibly could. Declare a Series to run for points in. No dipping down, for Dash 4 Cash Races, Triple Truck Challenge Races, for now, the Street Race at Chicago, can’t dip down to run regular season finales or Playoff Races as well, but can run any 5 races they want outside of these categories I just described.
I respect what the drivers on your list have done for the sport. Their stats are pretty damn impressive, and these drivers deserve all the accolades they can get.
I think the Xfinity Series and Craftsman Truck Series are in a better place now, than they were before, cause of the rules NASCAR has instituted against buschwhacking. This is the closest thing to a solution that you could possibly have. I think it works perfect for the sport. I wouldn’t change a thing right now, as far as the rules against buschwhacking are concerned.
These races are fun to watch every week, cause of the limit of 5 races a year, and I also enjoy moments like when Ty Gibbs can beat defending Cup Series Champion Kyle Larson, for a win as an Xfinity regular at Road America.
Cup regulars still win in lower series, but not near as often as they used to. This is one rule I’d say NASCAR got right. I like a mixed bag, and I think right now, we have got the right balance.
Kasey Kahne’s short list of truck stats are probably the best of any driver ever, winning 5 of 6 races he competed in and the lone non-win was a second place
This stat alone should land him in the HoF eventually
I’m not defending Kyle , but you have to give(some) credit to his 2006-2016 wins . In those times harvick , logono, keslowski, and edwards would run almost every race . Now the other 95% of the field were out classed , but he had to fight those guys to win .
Jeff Burton had 23 Xfinity wins while driving full time cup.
Kenseth and Biffle had a bunch too.
Had to leave some off so you could get the Earnhardts both on here though, I get it.
Yep, popularity vote. Not having MK and Burton is a crime.
Harry Gant is probably the best Buschwhacker not mentioned as he 21 Wins and 71 Top 10s in just 128 Starts. He was the first guy to truly light up the Busch series in part-time alongside Dale Earnhardt.
As many times as Jeff Burton did for roush and Childers he has to be in the top ten
Ya I think I’d definitely take Tony Stewart off the list, and replace with Matt Kenseth, top 10 in xfinity wins. From 2005 to 2015, he was in a lot of them, I remember one year he was racing part time and was top 10 in points half way through the season
Actually happened a couple of times.
I wish drivers could still run for multiple titles. I get why the rules changed but I think with where NASCAR is now, it would be interesting.
