How did they decide these starting positions
@RS Conover no because bell didn’t win the 500 but I think it involves the finishing order fastest lap and point standings
It’s some weird algorithm… it factors rank in points, finish in previous race, and how well your fastest lap in the previous race stacks up against other drivers’ fastest laps.
Since Logano and Stenhouse both finished ahead of Bell and they’re both ahead of Bell in the standings, it’s easy to conclude Bell’s fastest lap during the Daytona 500 was significantly faster (by rank) than Logano and Stenhouse’s fastest laps during that race.
My guess is that Bell got a really good lap while he was leading with the other Toyotas in Stage 1.
