Denny Hamlin and Ross Chastain are two of NASCAR’s brightest stars, competing for wins on nearly a weekly basis. This has led both of them to come together multiple times and caused one of NASCAR’s newest rivalries. With this as well, Denny Hamlin has generally been the one on the short end of the stick just about every time. But when he announced in his podcast “Actions Detrimental” that he took out Chastain on purpose on Sunday it sparked a ton of debates. Today I’m gonna look at one of these. We are going to look at why Denny Hamlin made a huge mistake.

Do you think Denny Hamlin made a mistake in his revenge?
Sorry but that was a clown show and I hope it doesn’t end anytime soon. Keep up the good work Ross!
It’s 50/50 yes and no but I think ross will get denny at an important time during the playoffs and will junk him at the same time it could be over between the two since Chastain and Hamlin spoke and some ways moved on only time will tell.
7min 22. You seem to be ignoring Denny saying Russ knew he had one coming (“guess I deserved that”), they talk it out and they’re gonna try to race hard but with respect AND Denny saying he understood Russ more a lot now and his mindset….so, if we’re accepting Hamlin is being honest then we have to take his entire statement and believe that, in Dennys eyes at least, they’re now even for the season and both want to avoid any more drama. Inviting Chastain onto his podcast and declaring that he ‘has an interesting story on his journey into NASCAR which he should tell, not me and makes his actions more understandable”.
Wise move from Hamlin, not sure about telling fans truth but settling score without a ludicrous crash like Bubba then talking it out and trying for a truce us wise move. Chastain gained lots of fans for wallride but that doesn’t change the fact his aggression in NASCAR has been over theine in many drivers minds. I don’t see Hamlin as a car wrecker like Logano, Bubba or constant contact merchant like Chastain!!
I think incidents like this should depend on how they did it, why they did it and when they did it. Bubba with Larson last year was late in the season, when Larson was still competing for the owners title, and Bubba right hooked him at a fast part of the track. What Hamlin did was run Ross into the wall all the way around the corner and they kept banging on each other, neither driver spinning or hooking each other.
Well the place he admitted guilt was “Actions detrimental”. Pretty fitting if I do say so myself.
It’s pretty rare to see Denny Hamlin actually admit he wrecked someone on purpose, even on his own podcast.
Hamlin can have his opinions about Chastain and vice versa. But Hamlin is putting himself in a position where he’s could lose a shot at the title because of a petty incident at a non-points race that he couldn’t get over.
@Vladimir Blarp well I just deleted a comment because you said the same basic thing.
@Vladimir Blarp That’s so true.
@Run Rafa Run #THEBESTINTHEWORLD
I mean… Logano hasn’t been targeting people. No doubt he’s had run ins but it’s always been a relatively calculated over exaggeration of a “bump n’ run” no matter who it is.
Denny meanwhile went completely out of his way to screw Ross over a few positions, frankly costing himself more than it would have Ross, just because he had a clear and easy shot.
So idk but I’d say there’s a pretty big difference between the two.
@LS_812 you forget about Atlanta and Gateway last year?
Chastain is living rent free in Hamlin’s head.
I love it!!
@Cole Murray ross made the bottom 4 last year, denny didnt
@Chris Ryan Yeah, I know, I watched the most dull championship race as well.
What does that even mean?
The way Ross drives works for him and works well. He is at his best when he’s aggressive, even if he pisses people off. He should not back down from Hamlin. If they keep going at it, I think Ross wins in the long term.
I agree
It makes me curious how Ross the boss Chastain able to get into Denny’s head and stayed there
@Razor Well it started when Ross wrecked Hamlin last year, early in the season, but I think it totally destroyed Hamlin when Ross pulled the Hail Melon move to put himself in the final 4, which knocked Hamlin out. Hamlin knows that Ross is a better driver than him, and he can’t stand it.
It reminds me of Kurt Bush and Jimmy Johnson fued back in the days
@Charley Richardson Interesting comparison. And I do miss seeing Kurt Busch.
Chastain and Hamlin reminds me of the kid that gets told to stay away from you, yet knows and continues to push your buttons, back and forth
I was once a Denny fan early in his career. After his third year he began to change and around 2010 i lost all respect him. Just a disappointment because I watched him win his first race and what his family did to keep him in racing. JGR should have punted Denny and kept Kyle. He is a winner.
@runrafarunthebestintheworl7810 I should said since 2010. Sorry jumped off a long time ago.
What happened in 2010? I’ve been into NASCAR since mid 2018.
The 1 VS 11 in the 1979 Daytona 500 last lap. Something about those two numbers.
Ha ha ha you’re right
If chastain retaliates Denny will just do same and it will be a nonstop cycle. If Ross doesn’t care as long as he wins then it is what it is. Denny seems to be content we all the bad possibilities and is basically saying every time I see you this is what it will be because you started it.
I think once Ross gets a win, Justin will say have fun with the 11 lol
Don’t you think the same is true once Denny gets a win.
@overcomer1222 I would be surprised if Denny Hamlin does not win at least one race this year.
FedEx is the perfect sponsor for Hamlin. You can’t depend on either of them to deliver when it counts.
Okay, you got the biggest literal LOL out of me for the night.
There is a reason that Denny is not a champion… for actions just like this.
i love when hamlin does one thing and the fanbase goes crazy, but whenever fan favorites do something way worse it’s praised
This very much reminds me of Kurt Busch and Jimmie Johnson’s feud when Busch drove for Penske, particularly in 2011.They were both in each other’s heads that season, and it really hurt their chances in the long run.
I’m calling it. Chastain vs. Hamlin is going to be the big fight of the year. Just imagine Ross smashing Denny with a watermelon. Lol.
Imagine they have one of the GREATEST championship battles of all time
This chastain hamlin rivalry has been great to watch we haven’t really seen this since Brad vs kfb
And man these 2 really do have a magnet on each other it started way back in 2020
Honestly this has made me get back into NASCAR, it’s just so damn interesting
