nascar should address why mandatory parts aren’t all meeting the same specs.
Hendrick said at the end of last week the hoodbvents weren’t allowing the hoods to close, so they modified them slightly. Must not have been so slight that it wasn’t obvious. How odd that once the vents were taken off, all of the Hendricks cars hoods closed and they went and qualified and raced that weekend. They got caught. What is also onvious is it was only the 3 Hendricks cars and Kaulic Racings car. The other 19 cars in the field didn’t have a problem with out of spec hood vents. Since the vendor is banging out parts to meet a stringent spec, I doubt any hood vent would go out the door so far out of spec that it is obvious when found in an involuntary pre track inspection.
People saying things aren’t the same as evidence.
@gregdcross You telling me the team that cheats the most was caught cheating again?
You are assuming the teams ARE telling the truth about the fitment of single source parts.
HMS should address why they’re claiming the louvers on all 4 cars were out of spec, yet they had zero issues replacing all of them.
Jeff going scorched earth right now, I like fired up Gordon.
only teams that got caught were hms gorden is covering up for hms cheating
@Nicky D Not true. Kaulig had louvers confiscated at the same time as HMS from the 31 car
@Nicky D Jeff Gordon is a man of pure honesty and integrity and has been for his entire career. A legend. He is not covering up for anything
@Ethan Culver I agree but knaus is a totally different story
@R B definitely right about that, he built himself quite the reputation for that over the last 20 years lol
Jeff is spitting facts
Every team cheats (it’s in Nascar’s history), but this one was more like Nascar trying to “shake up the points for drama”
Heh, they are trying to make it a soap opera!
On appeal I think fines will stay but points won’t be affected.
@shane mahler It is becoming the WWE
What’s funny here is all the teams wanted this and now that Hendrix got caught modifying a single source part. It’s all NASCAR’s fault.
I mean even if they did cheat, the parts weren’t used during the race so I don’t see why there’s a points penalty. If you wanna fine them and take away owners points then fine but don’t punish the drivers when they raced with legal cars
I think that’s what will happen on appeal. Hendrick & employees smart and powerful. I thought the same though.
Teams aren’t allowed to modify single-supplier parts, period.
@Bryan Young Nascar told teams they could modify certain parts to make them fit. Parts were coming out of spec and not fitting the cars. Apparently Hendrick went too far when modifying the part
Clint said it best… It’s practice
So you’re saying they were going to take it off before they went into competition, right
@Two Cents doubt it but why the fines and suspension before the race and not after? Example Gibbs which was after the race and NASCAR knew before the race so why before with Hendrick and after for Gibbs? Same rules . I won’t blame Hendrick for quitting NASCAR all together after this b.s
If NASCAR is going to be so tight fisted as to mandate single-source parts, they should have the brains and integrity to make sure the parts are to specs. Like the Hendrick teams or hate them, this is more a NASCAR mess than it is a team mess.
Exactly. Those parts should be of the highest standard.
I am guessing that all of these parts are coming from the lowest bidders for each part? If so, that does not really put quality, fit and finish first.
So all the other team got them from the same source and chose to follow the rules, and not modify a single source part
Jeff Gordon is Hendrick sports now. Rick is slowly handing it over to Jeff. Probably after last week handing it over sped up.
That happened the day Rick re-hired Jeff.
All the haters out there are blaming Gordon for something that may have happened a long time ago. This is about a BS rule. I would think you would be battling for the BS rule be removed. To save the sport.
That’s what all the team owners wanted to hold down the cost until they got caught then they blame NASCAR
NASCAR creates more drama off track than the drivers racing on track! Racing was way better back in the day when owners were able to tinker with thier cars to gain an advantage on race day. It was still fair because every car builder had the same opportunity to tinker with their cars. It made the sport more fun to watch.
Bottom line, whether you think it was a cheat or not they were never used in competition or qualifying, a points penalty (which they didn’t gain with this louver) is ridiculous.
1 Weren’t used that we know of. 2 You don’t put parts on a car u don’t plan on using
@Easton Hendrickson they were taken before qualifying, so we do know they weren’t used and unless this is Minority Report with pre crime, then no no harm no foul.
If those parts were NOT removed by NASCAR, would they have been utilized in the race…ANSWER YES. They are GUILTY.
An even 20 “you know’s” from Gordon.
and the 40 uh, uh, uhs
They didnt plan on using them ,just wanted to see if they made a difference lol
Tony is smirking so hard when Jeff said that every single car modifies single source parts
Yeah, and he owns a Ford team and he didnt push back and kind of seemed to agree he did not understand why his competition got the penalty. Interesting
@Ryan Michaels cause he understands this penalty is bs and Clint also made the point they were never used to gain a competitive advantage so even more bs from nascar they’re trying to kill the sport apparently
I agree with this. We ALL know teams will look for any advantage they can find…HOWEVER…for such a stiff penalty when the cars weren’t even used in any sort of competition AND they still dominated Phoenix as a team and whipped the field…those parts where not the reason they were fast.
So you’re telling me they were going to take this part off before they actually competed and I got a bridge down in Florida going across the swamp for sale
I hope they appeal the crap out of this. Somebody needs to finally start pushing back against NASCAR and their ridiculous overreaching and extreme “penalties”. NASCAR really needs a driver’s union.
And I remember meeting that 21 yr old kid and his mom Nov 1992 at Atlanta.
Now he’s running Hendrick. I’m old lol
Let us not forget the three Gibbs cars back in 2014 I believe. When the Gibbs cars were being unloaded from the hauler, a competitor noticed the strange looking oil pans on the Toyotas. Even before all of the Gibbs cars could be pushed to the garage, a Nascar official was running with the cars ready to look at the oil pans. All three cars were heavily fined.
