There have been numerous occasions where those in NASCAR have feuds and disagreements but it is less common to see NASCAR themselves get involved in some of these. Sometimes though, the situation is created whether it be a former NFL QB saying that NASCAR drivers are not athletes or a washed up ESPN2 host trashing the sport left and right. So today we will look back at 7 memorable feuds with NASCAR.

What are your favorite NASCAR feuds/controversies?
NASCAR vs Fans, F1 elitists, Motorsports fans and gearheads
NASCAR vs Kyle Busch over “freedom of speech” at Texas (also, pin this?)
Another one I thought of was Dale Earnhardt vs NASCAR over restrictor plate racing.
Jeremy Mayfield
Gary Nelson vs Tony Stewart
I think what Donovan McNabb sad about NASCAR drivers not being athletes is so stupid
i guess he hasn’t been in a 115+ plus degrees car while simultaneously going 200+ MPH, he was busy throwing interceptions…..
I’m an Eagles fan and I can’t stand him. He was an overrated QB and of course he has the nerve to say drivers aren’t athletes
Just as dumb as those who said that racing drivers aren’t athletes, considering these dudes and gals would work out to be in shape for race weekends, just like what athletes do for match days.
NASCAR was right in each and every one of these instances. The drivers should be ashamed to dare question the great leadership of NASCAR.
Sarcasm at its finest
@nascarfanatic2425 and men riding on its horns
@OddYoda64 I was trying to add onto the joke. Lol I kinda figured he was being sarcastic, but I figured I’d add on to the “here’s your sign” comment. Lol
I’d love to see Kurt Busch come back and race the sharpie car one more time
Correction I want to point out:
Carl Edwards didn’t pull his car behind the wall in 2006 at the Bud Shootout. He went a lap down due to the pit road penalty but caught the lucky dog on a late race caution and finished 16th, last on the lead lap.
Meanwhile, there are others who legit parked their car over a penalty. The research for this was very well done…
NASCAR’s hatred and feud with Success is one of the best. I mean, every time they seem to get ratings on the rise and butts in the seats, the powers that be come up with something to stop that pesky success from happening. It’s been a rivalry going on for almost 20 years now with no end in sight.
My favorite “controversy” was NASCAR bidding out the naming rights for the Cup series after Sprint left. They turned down Monster Energy to chase more money… only to not have the money there and had to go crawling back to Monster for much less than they initially were looking for.
Those who said “NASCAR drivers aren’t athletes” are in-line with people who thought race car drivers aren’t athletes. Pretty much in the modern era of motorsports most pro race drivers are preparing their physical abilities to make sure they are in a good shape for a race weekend, as racing drivers were subjected to high gravity forces during races or practice sessions, as well as the fact racing cars have no driving aids at most parts.
Nascar’s biggest feud is nascar vs common sense
young harvick was such an amazing show every week. him and young kurt busch.
Yep now people still don’t appreciate him all that much. Pfft
I got a laugh out of Will Power’s deal, mostly because some time has past
Tony Stewart vs Good Year deserves an honorable mention
So did Stewart vs fans
I liked Stewart because he wasn’t afraid to let NASCAR know how he felt.
@Robert F. I feel the same way
The feud with Jeremy Mayfield was epic ! 9:34
Another feud is Jeremy Mayfield with Nascar sanctioning body.
Slight correction, Lightfoot lost the primary, but she’s still in office.
Great video. With this in mind, here are 7 feuds in other forms of racing involving the governing body of that series over the years:
1. Senna vs Jean Marie Balestre
2. The entire civil war between CART & the IRL that nearly killed American open wheel racing from 1996-2008
3. The FISA-FOCA war in 1980-1981 in F1 that almost resulted in a breakaway championship being formed
4. The Michelin-FIA feud that led to the 2005 US GP debacle
5. Russia vs the FIA/Liberty Media over the Russian GP being kicked off the F1 schedule due to the war in Ukraine
6. The FIA vs the apartheid government of South Africa over the 1981 South African GP not being an FIA sanctioned event
7. TMS vs Indycar over Indycar racing at COTA in 2019 & TMS wanting to be the only Indycar race in Texas
Honorable/Dishonorable mentions: Lynk & Co vs the FIA that killed the World Touring Car Championship & Honda/Toyota vs CART in 2001 that resulted in both of them leaving for the IRL after the 2002 season.
I would’ve thrown in hamilton/mercedes vs F1 in Abu Dubai 2021
Gary Nelson vs Tony Stewart
FIM-IRTA war in motorcycle grand prix racing in the early 90s. Arguably an attempt by Bernie Ecclestone to destroy that sport to protect F1 (just like what he had already done with the World Sportscar Championship, and just like what he would do with DTM)
i gotta say, i’ve been a long time viewer since 2020, at one point your content was getting a bit stale, (just the daily release schedule a few vids got bland) but i’ve seen you putting alot of effort into your recent videos and i really appreciate the direction you’re taking with the channel. turning that bell back on <3
Keith Olbermann is a real piece of work.
A piece of something…quite smelly
With Kevin harvick don’t forget how Kyle Busch pushed his car at Darlington when Harvick attempted to confront him.
You always come out with a video I would never expect! Love all the original content you put out sir.
One of my favorites that isn’t in this video was Kyle Petty’s protest car at Dover in 1996.
He received a penalty for rough driving at Charlotte the week before and claimed that NASCAR would not have penalized Earnhardt for doing the same thing. So, in protest, he painted his car with the same black paint scheme as Dale Earnhardt at Dover, claiming he could get away with anything if he drove a black car.
