Lower tier NASCAR teams are nothing new. Due to low performance, lack of funding, or just plain bad luck these teams tend to come and go like traffic on a highway. But in the early/mid 2010s there was a new team that had a surprisingly eventful 5 year run in the NASCAR Cup Series. Swan Racing: NASCAR’s early 2010s most eventful backmarker.

What is your favorite underdog NASCAR team?
@Bryan Dean RFK is more of fallen empire than an underdog.
TBR NY Racing
DEI. Yeah, I know y’all are thinking “DEI really wasn’t an underdog team” but I believe they were I mean they were on fire in their early days but they sizzled out later thanks to the family drama between Mother Teresa and Junior. All I can say is that DEI deserved better.
First of all NASCAR to me died after the 2003 season. That was the end of the Winston Cup era. Favorite underdog team during the Winson Cup era…I’ll have to go with Bob Whitcomb Purolater (car 10) team. They had Derrike Cope who won the Daytona 500 and Dover in 1990. Great livery too.
Phil Parsons Racing, NEMCO, Prism Motorsports…
I never would’ve thought we would ever get a video on this team. Thank you!
Thank goodness that Parker Kligerman has won a Truck race or otherwise he would be known for going from coast-to-coast at Daytona while being upside down.
Three Truck races.
Charter system made teams worth more but killed a shot for new teams to start
Yeah, it really only benefits existing owners who are looking to sell.
And what’s funny is that Jim France didn’t want the system in the first place, the team owners did
Although Swan Racing’s time in NASCAR was brief, they had some cool looking paint schemes even if it was unsponsored. I wish we would have more teams like this nowadays in the Cup Series. Please bring it back to #43 entries!
Let’s at least get 40 instead of just 36.
@Bload72 Productions it was really depressing after not caring about nascar for years to come back to them struggling to get 40 cars
What I remember most from this team was a radioactive from Martinsville where the *crew chief* was genuinely mad at the driver for wrecking while being in last place. That’s how much of a mess they were.
That was the crew chief actually.
I remember that too haha
Parker was one of my favorite members of the ’14 rookie class and I was disappointed that he hasn’t made a cup start since 2019
He ran the 2022 gateway cup race. And the 2021 fall Kansas cup race
@AL JANKS Ran pretty damn good in the kansas race too
Great driver, runs well at skill tracks.
I loved their paint schemes, wish they got more sponsorship for Whitt & Kligerman
Still remember sandy hook till this day as a CT native myself living in Middletown at the time I was in middle school hearing about this I’m just glad to be here and never had to go through anything like that or I may have never been still be here
I remember this team for 2 things: Kligerman’s flip and his 500 car with the muppet character on the hood, which would also end up crashing
Glad to see another vid on this team honestly
I remember when they started in 2011 with Stremme and man that 30 font was awesome. Really sad abt how Kligerman and Whitt’s careers got shorted by their funding issues
I remember this team in NASCAR. For not having a lot of screen time, they were a small team I was rooting for. My favorite moment was when they both had to race their way in the Daytona 500 making it an underdog story
I remembered that they raced, but the only thing that actually came to mind was the flip at Daytona. I always did like the number font though.
Most memorable moment for me was the way how Stremme was able to get the 12th at Talladega, closely missing two massive wrecks getting there.
I’m really glad you took some time to make a Swan Racing video. This is the team that I’ve loved the most after CGR. I dearly remember loving the paint schemes of Swan’s era, athough Inception’s silver bullet was beautiful. Also the number font was perfect, and as of today I still use both paint schemes and number font in my NR2003 offline seasons. I always liked their drivers and I really enjoyed 2013 season as they were more noticeable, loving of course 2013 Aaron’s 499 where they shined the most.
It really hurt to see Swan Racing disappear before Talladega in 2014 and I think the biggest mistake of the team was to expand to 2 cars while they were still improving the on-track performance.
I still miss them :’)
As an F1 fan in addition to NASCAR this reminds me a lot of Virgin F1 who entered F1 around the same time featuring investment from Richard Branson (the same man behind Virgin Mobile & many other ventures). Despite Branson’s investment, this team was absolutely terrible with two 14th place finishes (Malaysia 2010 & Australia 2011) being the best result. In 2012 Marussia a Russian car manufacturer took full control of the team & with the late Jules Bianchi scored their best ever finish of 9th at the 2014 Monaco GP. Then in 2015, Marussia announced that they didn’t have the funds necessary to keep running an F1 team and sold the team to Manor which was owned by a British investor named Stephen Fitzpatrick. This only lasted for the 2016 season as the team officially died after that season after the team fell into administration & no one else wanted to buy it.
I do remember Swann Racing. Loved that Team
#30 is my favorite number. So naturally I pulled for this team. I even made my own custom diecast of the Stremme all red car.
