Recently this week some of the talk around the NASCAR community has been how the return to North Wilkesboro opened up the door for other former NASCAR tracks being brought back into the fray. So today we will look at 3 different tracks that I think would be the most likely options for this kind of redemption arch again. What NASCAR track will be the next North Wilkesboro?

What track do you want NASCAR to bring back?
Note: I did not include the Fairgrounds as it does seem to have a future building. This video is for tracks that atm do not have any NASCAR future building
Rockingham
Kentucky
Rockingham or Kentucky but if they wanted to bring them back they should put hotels and restaurants and gas stations and all that
Rockingham
The Rock of Rockingham Speedway and Nazerth Speedway to bring back as revival of full Schedule NASCAR Season
I’d really like to see the Nashville Fairgrounds come back. Hickory should be there as well for Trucks or Busch Series
How about all American speedway in Roseville that short track how about they bring that to the NASCAR All American speedway let him race there
Maybe Dillon Motor Speedway, I wouldn’t want a track that has weekly racing, because NASCAR would ruin it. Nazareth, IRP, Rock, Charlotte Legends oval would do fine
@Kendall “The Hammerhead” BeckerNazareth will never happen cause of laws in place protecting Pocono
@Brent Ruvio I would watch Nazareth over Pocono every time
I’d love for them to bring back Nazareth Speedway, but after the owners bought part of the deal was to never have racing at the track again
If Rockingham does revive and NASCAR returns to it, I’ll be so grateful for its return. It’s such a unique track! 🙂
This is wishful thinking, obviously, but imagine if Nazareth came back. Unfortunately, I think it’s way too dead.
Chicagoland should come back because the Gen 7 can race beautifully on the big tracks and they stopped racing there as soon as the track showed it’s true peak since running in July is good! Thanks to Clay Millican’s (NHRA driver) recent Vlog video during Route 66 Raceway weekend, the track is still being taken care of!
Please do not add Kentucky back on the schedule, the 2016-2020 layout is terrible and made Kentucky worse.
Nazareth would be awesome. The only thing that makes me doubtful is that theres not a whole lot of cries for its return, compared to what North Wilkesboro at least. Also, like you said, its completely dead. Nobody keeping tabs on the track now or anything. Rockingham would be my best guess as to what the most likely track to return would be.
@SackaryDaiquiri Actually there is, but the current contract says it cannot be used as a race track again.
@SackaryDaiquiri Rockingham is still and has been worked on as we speak
@Ben Walter Oh no kidding? I didn’t even realize that. I had figured it was just completely abandoned, without even security checking in or anything. Why is that in the contract? Seems a bit weird that a race track is prohibited from racing. Haha
@IanPerez2000 Yeah, that’s why I said that one seems the most likely. I’d bet if another track does return to the schedule, that’d be the most likely. North Wilkesboro was the one I wanted the most, but now I’d love to see The Rock come back as well. Stapleton42d video where he visited the track was awesome, seeing all the improvements they are still trying to make on the facility.
With a better short track package added in to next year’s schedule, I’m hoping that North Wilkesboro comes back to the schedule full-time. We all deserve to see a second try from this track in the near future, because I know everyone can do better, as that track, and the surrounding community deserve better.
That being said,
Rockingham, Nazareth, Montreal, and the Indianapolis Oval should come back too.
Even though Nazareth is almost completely gone by this point, I think if someone puts enough money and effort into it, it could be salvaged. The Brickyard 400 needs to come back no matter what. And Montreal was a great road course for Xfinity that could work for Cup as well. Rockingham is a no brainer.
Nazareth is gonna have a tough time getting rid of the shopping center though. Unless they just completely close it.
Nazareth will never come back with pocono raceway being so close and pocono raceway does not want it to comeback
@Héctor Ferrer jr also the seats aren’t even there at Nazareth anymore. People should seriously look at the YouTube videos of how Nazareth looks like. Pfft
@Run Rafa Run #THEBESTINTHEWORLD hence why I said Nazareth is almost completely gone. Why they haven’t demolished it yet, or Kentucky for that matter (even though it’s basically a storage express at this point), I’m not entirely sure.
I’ll second Montreal. And now that they’ve stupidly taken it off the schedule, I would count road America on my list.
My vote would definitely go towards Rockingham. It is completely unique. Nothing races like it.
NHRA just had the return of the Route 66 Nationals in Joliet, IL this past weekend. I think Chicagoland returning is very realistic possibility. Put Chicagoland on the current Chicago Streets date.
Road America retains its spot over the Chicago American Supercars race, but Chicagoland returns with both Indy and Cup weekends
I could see Chicagoland getting back on the schedule. The SuperMotocross World Championship is having one of its tracks built in it during the fall this year so I’m sure plenty of eyeballs will be on it.
Rockingham for sure is the one ready with new pavement and suited for the next gen.
Chicagoland speedway should definitely be put back on the schedule.
i would love to see chicagoland come back, just an amazing track in my opinion
As a Kentucky native, I’d like to see it back, but i wont hold out hope. I think though they ought to at least take the Nextgen cars out there and test them and see what happens because i believe the track surface is still in a pretty decent shape
I love to see both Rockingham and Chicago back even Nazareth ( though that’s a long shot). I am a 2002 kid so a lot of these tracks have closed doors before I was born. Plus AMA is hosting a race at Chicago so hopefully that brings eyes to the venue
Nazareth is most likely getting developed unfortunately
It’s too far gone it would cost way more anyways
@KennyTech24 also Pocano has a no compete clause
Chicagoland had one of my favorite restarts of all time in 2008… Jimmie Johnson leading on the final restart and Kyle busch in second timed the restart perfectly and got around Johnson for the win
I want to see the rock come back for nostalgia sake, but if the Chicago street race doesn’t come back/ performs poorly, I want to see Chicagoland speedway come back. Hopefully people would come to the races, as its been off the schedule since 2020.
It’s not a nascar track but i would love to see Nazareth Speedway. I think it has an interesting layout and wanna see the cup cars on it.
This discussion is a casestudy in the rule I have said NASCAR should look at adopting for their scheduling: ideally one race per track per year, unless there is an alternate layout (such as Charlotte with the oval and ROVAL). There are so many great tracks throughout the US (and even Canada and Mexico) that Cup could go to. They desperately need to get a better short track package on the NextGen for this to work, though.
As I am very biased of Chicagoland speedway I’d love to see it come back and since being at the drag strip this past weekend and seeing how many fans piling up the grandstands I think it would be amazing for it to come back
I would love to see Rockingham come back. I can’t believe the viewership was down at North Wilkesboro I was beyond excited for the race. I watched all of the racing action all weekend for the first time sense the 2000’s.
Kentucky Speedway, I liked that track, I want to see it come back, so I could finally go to my first NASCAR race without having to travel far.
I’m all for bringing back more tracks, oversaturation can be combated with running some of the races every other year where a Rockingham could swap dates with another north Carolina track. Keeping track variety high.
