It could still happen with Legacy motor club after Richard Petty steps away. He can fill in his spot and the two of them would work together and that would save Dale Jr having to make his own team when he could just work with that organization instead..
I think the bigger thing to take from that episode was how ginassi came and left NASCAR and that he said he’d be open to come back so easily. If you get the right group of people involved, I’m sure Jr could get in, and maybe even with chip by his side
I was thinking the same about Junior and Chip working something out on the cup side. That to me would be cool. I’d love to see JRM to be in cup, I’m guessing if Junior started a team with chip or someone else, it would be a separate entity than JRM.
If Chip and Junior did start a team it could be Earnhardt Ganassi reboot. Even though I think that would be even too close to Teressa for Junior that he’d want to be.
@Tom Hoblin I always figured if Junior went to cup his team would be like a 23xi/Gibbs situation. A satellite team. I couldn’t see Junior not receive any help from HMS even if he and Ganassi or anyone else started a team together. If him and Johnson started a team it would more than likely be a satellite team to HMS
I think that was Dale himself. I totally also made that joke before, but it’s a lot funnier coming from him than a schmuck on the internet like myself.
I typically get in late regarding comments. Just wanted to say thank you Eric for the effort you put in, and the content you share. Enjoy your weekend!
I don’t think this is the end of this story. Richard is getting up there, reduced role. And Maury isn’t any spring chicken either. I still believe Jr and JJ end up together someday, and the Legacy name still fits just fine.
In the long run, Jimmie and his group will be majority owners in Legacy Motor Club. Jimmie does have some of his people in key positions now. Think of it as a transitional phase.
Kelly Earnhardt needs a ton of props for getting JR to where he is today! I don’t think that he would be as far along as he is if it were not for her! They as a team are a tour de force!
I think JRs best bet is joining a pre existing cup team. I don’t think he wants all the responsibility and we’re seeing many owners going towards more than one owner like Legacy, 23XI, even Hendrick has Jeff Gordon now in that role. I would like to see JR join forces with a small team like Spire. I think he’d bring a lot of support to them, and they’re a team that really could use the help of someone like JR.
Xfinity series needs JRM more than Cup needs JRM. Junior’s always been great at scouting talent and mentoring them to the next step, and I don’t see that translating well into Cup. Maybe field 2 Cup teams – one car to get seat time for his protégés in Xfinity, one for a Cup vet to help with the transition like a Kurt Busch-type, and it’d work.
I think Dale is happy where he is at right now in this part of his life, especially having young children to be a part of. Later when the kids are older I think he will take the plunge in to the cup series!
@Diana Jeffrey Earnhardt had a GREAT run in the RCR #3 with Larry McReynolds on the pit box. And he got his 1st top 5. He needs good equipment like Kaulig racing.
Here is a crazy idea. What if Nascar puts a time frame on charters to perform over a period of years. If you have a charter and over a three year period, you fail to perform above the 30th points position, Nascar has the option to reclaim the charter at a fixed price, and sell it to a new team such as Jr Motor sports at that stated price! It weeds out some of these slower teams and adds more competition on the track! Just an idea!
NASCAR must give the teams more money from this upcoming TV deal. We have to lessen the sponsor income portion of this sport in order to maintain competition amongst all the teams. We can’t have teams go into financial trouble if a sponsor leaves. Junior Johnson Racing would have been wicked!
I think it would have been the best thing tha’s happened in NASCAR in a long time, finding sponsorship would not have been much of a problem with those two names as team owners, add in the aliance with HMS that Jr has plus the fact that they both drove for HMS, they would have been a power house team pretty quickly providing they got a couple good drivers, Josh Berry being one of them, I would assume Algire would be the other
Even if someday he does choose to do it and start a cup team he will always have support. I don’t know anyone who doesn’t like dale jr. he’s a very likable guy.
I would love Jr. to bring at least one car to cup around 2025-2026 seasons. I think it would bring more viewership back in the sport since there would be an “Earnhardt” or like a “DEI” back in cup

Imagine if Dale and Jimmie did make a team together they’d be a great duo

It was probably smart for Dale Jr. to not jump into having a cup team.
That would have been cool. Who knows what the future will bring. Excited to see.

@Orendz77 I wonder how it would affect jrm’s relationship with Hendrick or if it would be like a 23xi gibbs sort of deal

Whoever made the Junior Johnson pun, you’re doing God’s work

Richard is tired he’s older.

Everyone knows that
That would have been epic if they did start up a cup team
Thanks Aric. Would’ve loved to see them work together. We will see what happens with Legacy. Thanks Aric.

They said if they had. Not now.
Kelly’s son is coming along and Kerry has a son coming along as well.
