As far as NWS is concerned, I think it should be a points race. They should have one big NASCAR weekend a year with ALL the NASCAR series from ARCA on up. Xfinity would be phenomenal there. And we can hope that someday Cup will be better. I kinda like the All-Star race rotating around. Would love to see them visit another track not currently on the schedule next year. IRP or Rockingham would be great. My personal preference would be Slinger. I know their capacity is small but I genuinely couldn’t care less about that if it’s sold out. As far as viewership, I don’t know what could save it at this point. NASCAR does something wrong and it drops, NASCAR does something right and it drops. They cater to new fans and it drops, they cater to old fans and it drops. Even tracks that put on great races last year have seen smaller viewership this year. I don’t get it. Surely people can’t be tired of seeing fast cars go fast?
Cable TV, like the people who primarily use it, is dying
@DREADNECK Its not affecting NFL anywhere near as much. This is not just a cable thing – and putting it on a streaming service will make the numbers even lower. I’m genuinely worried about the future of the sport. People aren’t into it like they used to be.
But I think the all stars race should move the the Charlotte dirt track
wile trucks are at nws
Xfinity series their to
@JBtheExplorer2 streaming only makes last year Moto cross season unwanted. It should be opinion but also with cable you need to put both together in a deal
@Ethan the Damon knight god Agreed. Having streaming as an alternative option is great. Having it as the only option is terrible.
Bowman. Broken back where you cant comfortably laugh, cough, or sleep…. That sounds like months of recovery to me.
He’s not coming back anytime soon IMO, and I he does he is crazy and the people around him are crazy if they let him get in a race car with that injury!
If I were him, I’d take the whole year tbh. Just not worth it. Make damn sure you’re healthy before you come back
I didn’t break my my back, but I have a L3/L4 and L5/S1 disc herniated in my back. It’s been over 10 years and it’s still extremely painful.
If he herniated a disc that would explain why it is so bad. Fractures are bad enough as Denny and Aric took like 6 weeks each to recover or so and took time to get back to normal.
Disk pain is so much worse than breaks or fractures alone just because of the nerve ending the disk is pushing on. Insane amount of pressure and pain that can be caused
Back injuries are no joke. Sounds like Bowman might be out for the rest of the season if it’s so bad he’s worried about the jack dropping hurting him.
Being a Bowman fan is really upsetting and knowing what he is going through. Having had a prolapsed disc when i was in my thirties is really painful, am i was not into auto racing just worked in a auto bodyshop. Probably be out for the most of this season, you cant hurry it.
TV ratings were down because a lot of people don’t have fs1
Last year’s Texas race was also on FS1. I’m sure some people have dropped cable in the past year, but I’m not sure it’s enough to make up the whole gap.
@Eric Estepp do those ratings also include streaming services? A lot have dropped cable and switched to streaming.
The Problem!!!!
i dont watch until its on youtube. I dont have FS1 or fox, i only have paramount, peacock and free packages. I for sure am not paying for streaming BS.
I think just like Chastain is leading into his instigator role, Bubbles is leaning into his heel role to forge some personalities. NASCAR desperately needs personality to cultivate storylines.
It’s been far too long since NASCAR has had a good heel.
Chastain is competitive for wins but honestly he’s too dumb in my view to be a heel. Bubba is definitely better to play up the villain but he also isn’t as competitive for wins (nevermind he has won more recently than Chastain).
However Bubba is trending upward. 3 straight top 5s on 3 different tracks (although the ASR is non points paying and reduced field).
“Bubbles” lmfao
Your not wrong-
I used the example of Tiger Woods before. In the 2000s you were either tuning in because you loved him or hated him but do you thing the PGA cared why? Nope. And I know Chase Elliot is popular but he ain’t gonna do it. I want the drama and if it means bubba shooting darts at the fans sign me up.
Would be great if they moved the clash to NWS and made the Allstar race a “traveling” event that changed location every year.
cool but it would be to cold
I’d rather NWS be a 500 lap points race
They sort of are rotating the All star Race now.
With the extra stage and stage points awarded at the 600, it could hurt Bowman in the points even more than a traditional 3 stage race
The 600 only awards points for 2 stages. They have 4 stages as opposed to 3 but follow the same point format, with only stage 1 and 2 awarding points. Stage 3 has a caution but no points. I think Bowman is sitting moreso because of it being the longest race, probably better to come back at a less intense/long race
I think as much as fans say “give us more short tracks, when the average casual viewer tunes in and sees cars maxing out at 100-105, there is no wow factor for them. The intermediate and super speedways have “speed” on their side with the possibility of bigger crashes. I don’t agree with this view for myself, because I love the track diversity.
The traffic and parking was quite possibly the best of any race envent I have ever been to.
I completely agree. I went to the CARs Tour event last August at NWS and sat in traffic for 90min or more. I stayed the entire All Star Race and was out of the parking lot and heading in about 30 min last Sunday. Marcus Smith and his team did an excellent job with traffic.
The people who are praising NASCAR for this decision are the same people who condemned Larson to hell when he did what he did.
I feel so bad for Alex Bowman and I can identify with him at the same time.
Regarding ratings, NASCAR needs to insist as part of their next TV deal that their product is exclusively on broadcast channels, which is free over the air and also free streaming. High ratings drive premium price on advertising which is what both NASCAR and their broadcast partners enjoyed until NASCAR allowed NBC and FOX to dump their premium product onto low-viewed subscription services. That was the beginning of low ratings, you can look it up and see a direct correlation between viewers and the channel it’s on.
Drop Fox, pick up ABC, keep NBC cause Peacock has the Dale Jr Download and they have streamed races on there. They’re going all on, and can you blame them? They have the most popular driver that isn’t an Elliott in the bunch
Compression or crush fractures are seriously painful. They do mend however and the recovery can be like flicking a switch.
I have had five over time because of osteoporosis and each time it was about five or six weeks of pain and then it’s over.
Best wishes to Bowman and his recovery.
My husband had a L3 compression fracture and it took 3 months before the serious pain went away.
Best solution for the radio stuff is probably to have NASCAR’s teams switch to secure digital, but have NASCAR rebroadcast those channels over the existing analog frequencies. That way, they can control who talks but everybody who has purchased scanners over the years can continue to enjoy.
As a bonus, digital is much clearer so the TV Broadcast would have improved clarity as well as the teams themselves.
But they definitely need to make sure it is backwards compatible with the hardware the fans have, so provide the rebroadcast at the track. Shouldn’t be too hard or expensive to setup, once they have the digital frequencies bought up.
That’s certainly a very easy and technically feasible thing to do.
Retransmitting the analog signals would definitely be a must do. Though I don’t like encrypting the transmissions. Some of us do have radios that can pick up the digital as well, and it’d be nice to hear the clear audio. Of course, if they rebroadcast the digital unencrypted as well, so much the better
On the flip side, however the clarity of a digital signal is great but you either have a working signal or you don’t.
A benefit of the analog system is even if there’s interference You can still usually pick out the words.
That would only prevent the teams from hearing trolls. Fans would still hear them.
They did go digital, but than fans can’t here them on scanners…. So NASCAR said no . And at the time when teams “switched “ over to digital NASCAR couldn’t here the teams .
Better for Alex to have a long and pain free life than a good season. He seems to have learned from those drivers that had the courage to step back and look at “his big picture”.
Josh Berry was also listed on driver enetry list for 9 the week Chase Elliott returned. They annouced it later in week on Wednesday or thursday believe
UPDATE: Alex Bowman is expected to return for the Coke 600 this weekend.
Really great news! I was definitely worried he would miss more time after those comments he made last week, but I’m glad he’s back on-schedule!
Good, I’m glad he’s feeling better
Really Eric? Lets hope he is well enough to compete in this long race. Maybe what we have heard previously was BS.
