It’s a real bummer. I always liked Cody ware and loved what he stood for. Innocent until proven guilty though. Too bad.

NASCAR put in the non-competitive pit stops simply to keep Denny from getting a pit lane penalty. Denny rule.

Yeley already drives the #15 for the most part. I would imagine that the replacement would either be Zane Smith (as an up-and-coming Ford driver), or a guy like Garrett Smithley (as an established RWR driver).

@Wisconsin222 ^ this. Crafton might be getting up there in age but all that experience in Trucks… Man has been long overdue for a cup ride

Reply
BornIn1500 April 11, 2023 at 10:55 am

Really doesn’t matter who they put in that car. The problem is that the car sucks and it doesn’t make financial sense to invest more money to gain a few positions cause the payouts are very flat. RWR will stay in the back no matter what.

maybe get Ben Rhodes or Ty Majeski? I don’t know I fantasize a lot lmao

Reply

Feeling that we can see Zane Smith, Riley Herbst and maybe even Cole Custer to make starts in the #51. High chance that we probably get some road course ringers too.

Reply

Joey Hand and James Davison come to mind

Reply
Stosh!, Soda Sampler April 11, 2023 at 12:22 am

I’d love to see Hand back in the series. Although the results don’t match how he ran, when he was in the 15 car for RWR, he did very well.

Reply

Which is what any team should do. I used to ferried cheating, but finding loopholes is just part of it. Guys like Smokey Yunick and Leonard and Glenn Wood would do all kinds of things to exploit the rule book or outright cheat.

Thank you for all your hard work. Love hearing your side of things. I may not agree with it all but that’s okay. That’s what makes us fans of an awesome sport. I don’t like how secretive Nascar has been with the penalties and hope they open up more about what they are penalizing for. Some how there has to be a balancing party for the teams and drivers who makes sure Nascar is fair when handing out penalties. Otherwise we see what happens.

While a truck series regular would be hard to pull off, I could see Zane Smith coming in to replace Ware for the season. Zane is undoubtedly going to Cup next year and given how he has performed already in the cup series with very solid runs everywhere, his ties with Ford could make him a viable option to fill in when he is not already occupied with the cup races he’s already scheduled to undertake

Reply
Easy E Network April 11, 2023 at 5:43 am

If they are smart, I would call Zane first. Or somebody like Crafton or maybe Herbst. Custer as well.

HRTVFan2 April 11, 2023 at 12:37 am

Regarding Matt Crafton (who’s definitely one of the all-time greats in the Truck Series); it seems like his entire Cup Series career has been the “go-to substitute” (subbed for Paul Menard on a few occasions, an injured Kyle Busch, Matt Tifft and replacing Cody Ware yesterday).

Reply
Delcrew April 11, 2023 at 1:00 am

he never replaced truex. he replaced matt tifft at the 2019 first data 500, though.

Cody Ware’s story as a teen could be the reason for his mental health after what the bullies did to him. The bullies set Cody on fire, and stayed in a burned unit for like three months. His mental state from that incident was traumatic. Cody’s mental state may have finally snapped. It sounded like he needed to have been seeing a shrink all these years. If it was his mental state that was from that incident? The person with mental health suffers from it and others around him are also suffer with them. I don’t think he should see jail time, but I could see the judge orders Cody to see a shrink in a psych ward.

Chuck the brindle pittie April 11, 2023 at 2:45 pm

Thoughtful reply. By age 27, Ware should have had a LOT of intensive psychiatric care and medication management,, many options. He has, by his own public admission, been struggling for a long time. If those avenues of treatment haven’t been pursued, consistently, something has been SERIOUSLY amiss. Regardless, if those charges stick… Nail him. Whether that means a psych hospital or jail. (I can tell by many comments here that male anger and excuse-making is endemic. Ugly. Appalling. Despicable. Yours is not.)

Spitfire The Dragon TV Love And Positive Light April 12, 2023 at 12:20 am

@Chuck the brindle pittie I think that lies on the feet of Cody’s parents including his father Rick. It seems he have shown signs since those bullies tried to murdered him took a lot in him. This is what I think he may have, but I am not an expert, but it is guesses. Anger, panic attacks, anxiety, depression, loneliness, paranoia, PTSD, psychosis, schziparinoia, self-harm, stress, suicidal feelings, and trauma, PTSD might be in play because we have seen people with PTSD became violent when they get into those mood swings. There have been warning signs especially in recent years in NASCAR with his issues including with his teammates.

Time to call Garrett Smithley. Have had many great chats with him when RWR came to Langley AFB. He’s a class act who represented the company well. Was sad when he was let go to give Cody the seat. I fully understand his dad wanting to provide for his son. But now I pray they can focus on helping Cody get through this and whatever his future brings. All while a solid choice like Garrett can keep the 51 car out of wrecks and can continue to improve to their program.

The only reason the penalty was limited to Byron and Bowman was because those are the only two cars they took back to the R&D Center. It seems very likely that every Hendrick car would have failed, and possibly still would.
