I gotta say it right now, Ryan Newmans and Erik Jones are hands down my favorites

The Newman one is awesome!

@Eric Estepp What’s the Newman one Eric, did you show it?

Reply

@David Bell he didn’t show it because it was revealed today

@David Belluhhh, no, Newmans driving the 51 it’s a Mobil 1 throwback

When I saw that Newman was racing again I was like YEAH!

If I had a nickel for every HMS driver running unintentional throwbacks to Kasey Kahne, I would have 2 nickels, which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice.

Chases paint scheme reminds me of kahnes dumont jets scheme

Reply

Hahahaha okay it’s totally Kasey Kahne and not his dad Bill Elliott Chase had in mind, come on I loved Kasey Kahne but we all know the Elliotts have history with the sport.

@metallicman94I was thinking for sure his dad’s #9 from 2001-2003. Not my favorite, but better than some of the McDonald’s schemes even as simple as the Dodge schemes were.

How is Larsons a Kasey Kahne Throwback?

Reply
Tom Hoblin May 9, 2023 at 9:33 pm

Woulda been really awkward if Josh were still running chase’s car with that 9 scheme planned

Reply
Nathan Stroud May 9, 2023 at 10:40 pm

Of all the Bill Elliott throwbacks that Chase has driven, this one I assume would be the most significant to Chase.

Reply
Bob May 10, 2023 at 7:23 am

It probably would’ve been really awkward for Kasey Kahne too

That 78 car is still a 5/5 in my book, throwback or not

William Byron and Chase Elliott are my favorites. I also love the old Chevy bowtie on the hoods of some of the Chevy teams. Wish they would go back to that look.

You already know Lionel’s getting their shops ready for next sunday, I’d imagine that sales are gonna be through the ROOF

Hat’s off to Ally for always being willing to change things up all season in terms of the paint scheme.

Casey Atwood ran a similar Castrol GTX scheme during his first full-time season with Brewco Motorsports in the #27 during the 1999 Busch Series season.

Chase and Larson’s schemes are both great this year

I like it when they can get the old sponsors back on the car. I think most of the throwbacks look pretty good this year. The 24 is the best throwback in my opinion

I’m not holding my breath for a Kyle Larson DC Solar throwback scheme, though.

Nathan Stroud May 9, 2023 at 10:28 pm

I had been randomly thinking about the old Country Crock Busch Series cars that Evernham entered in the mid-2000s prior to seeing this year’s throwbacks, so my reaction to seeing the #47 car having already seen the #1 was “why didn’t they just throw back to their own scheme?”

Reply
Austin Reed May 9, 2023 at 10:38 pm

Gotta love these throwbacks.
This Throwback Race at Darlington is surely going to be something.

Reply
Garibuki May 9, 2023 at 10:39 pm

I’m not a Chase or Bill Elliot fan, but anytime I see that Evernham #9 car, my inner Kasey Kahne fan instantly jumps for joy.

I also like the Chastain UPS throwback (and like you said, props to Trackhouse for getting them back into the sport after all this time), and that Preece one is so slick. A lot of great ones this year.

Reply
shappah May 10, 2023 at 2:30 am

Yeah I feel like Kahne is oddly the first name that gets associated with that 9 car, especially among the 2000s and early 2010s kids like myself

Reply
Cringy Shinji May 10, 2023 at 2:54 pm

Yeah, I’d think that a Bill Elliot throwback should be either the red white and gold or the blue red and white Coors liveries from the late 80s and early 90s. I think the blue Coors livery especially would’ve been awesome for Chase to run, since his car is literally, usually, blue. This really just looks like a Kasey Kahne livery to me.

Extra points for getting UPS, but hate it was not on a Ford or 88. I hope Jr brings back the 88 to Cup. HMS still owns that lease, so we know Mr. H would let Jr get the #88 back.

Reply
Easy E Network May 10, 2023 at 9:32 pm

@shappahHe did drive it longer than any driver not named Elliott really. Drove it from 2004-2010. Chase only has had the 9 since 2018, so as long as Kasey I believe almost.

Drewster327 May 9, 2023 at 10:45 pm

Honestly i love the 24 throwback, the rainbow lines with that copper is going to really pop in person

Reply
Jwrailv&e May 10, 2023 at 12:38 am

That car was a monster and one of many that season that were just ahead of the field by far

Reply
Raid3r63 May 10, 2023 at 6:09 am

It’s not copper it’s color changing he ran out of fuel and mark martin won that all star race

Reply
GreatHitNick May 9, 2023 at 10:47 pm

Trackhouse gets what the throwback schemes are all about. Bring back sponsors and old schemes and get new or old sponsorship back involved with the sport. Win win

Reply
ShyteKreek46 May 10, 2023 at 12:35 am

My fave this year has to be Suarez. I wish they would run it next week too because Brett Bodine drove that same color scheme in 1990 when Ricky left and got his only Cup win at North Wilkesboro… officially anyway.

Alan Wiltsie May 10, 2023 at 12:57 am

It’s crazy to me that it took this many years of Darlington throwbacks to finally get a Herbie car. Definitely the best throwback of the year imo.

Burton’s Exide scheme has always been one of my favorites. Glad to see it return.
And as a Bill Elliott fan from back in the day growing up in the ‘90’s Chase’s scheme is my favorite.
