If Noah is out for a few more races, would Jimmie sub in for him?
That’s a good question. But I think grant enfinger would likely be in the car till Gragson is well enough to return.
Well there’s no race this weekend so he has an extra week to recover
@Ricky Keyser possibly……but look what happened to Kurt Busch and Dale Jr.
@Josh RobertsThey are also a lot older and had more bad wrecks.
I love Jimmie, as long as I see him on my tv, I’m happy. But is sucks to see him not run good knowing he is a 7 time champ. Even through the struggles he will always be my GOAT
Le Mans was a terrific event for Jimmie, but running more NASCAR events less so.
It’s just more proof that Knaus was the real driving force behind his run with hms
You can be the GOAT and still be on the tail end of your career. Time eventually beats everyone. Is Michael Jordan any less of the GOAT for his Wizards years?
Now we see 7 time in the beginnings of his team. Growing pains will happen. That being said some one fucked up at Chevy by not keeping him. Now Toyota will claim him and his future championships.
He went his last 3 years in cup full-time without a win.,2018,2019, 2020.
I just don’t think Jimmie wants to stop racing because he obviously loves it but also the way his last few season have gone that’s not how he wants to go out.
Jimmie should fill in for Noah if hes out for a few races so he can get some seat time in the Next Gen car.
My heart says yes, and that car can’t run much worse, I’m just nervous. I think it would be good for the seat time too
Noha might be back next week
We would get to see him crash more
They car is terrible unfortunately
@Spread So is the driver
Sometimes I just wonder how much more legendary Johnson’s career would be if he won the Charlotte Roval in 2018 and retired after that season.
Or just retired after 2016. 80 wins already and considered the top 5 of all-time already, or at the minimum, top ten.
Who are we all to tell Jimmie that he needs to stop racing when he clearly still loves doing it? If he is content with being mediocre, but still loves the thrill of being in the stock car, let him be.
Exactly. Richard Petty raced far too long, but he still enjoyed racing.
He’s been mediocre his entire career
@The SnapperheadI’m no Jimmie fan by any means, but saying he’s been mediocre his entire career is ludicrous. 83 wins, 7 championships.
@KombatRacer mic drop
@The Snapperheadobvious troll trying to be obvious.
It doesn’t ruin his legacy for me, obviously when he took his job seriously and obsessively, he was the goat.
As much as he denied it, and some others refuse to believe it, I do think that Pocono crash screwed him up psychologically. That was the first time I had ever seen him hurt from a crash and since then, it was just downhill from there. His driving style changed, which he even said so himself after his brakes failed.
I truly think he’s just looking for that small sign of “I can still win, I can still compete” because anyone with the chance to chase an 8th championship would do it if they knew they won’t fail miserably at trying to do so.
But he is not running full-time, so that is dumb. I understand love of the sport, but at some point, you need to move on and do something else more productive or find another love. I think it is selfish for him to compete when is not going to be competitive when he can put a better driver in that car or make that team better by not running a non-competitive driver.
I guess my question is where does Jimmie rank for you? It doesn’t hurt his legacy for me either, bc I have ranked at 5. I took his last 2 season without a win and missing the chase into account.
I don’t think he should step away if he still loves doing it, racing is a unique sport that even once you’ve retired with full time competition you can easily come in & out for the odd weekend whenever you like. Only thing i’d say is maybe he should take the Jr approach of racing in the Xfinity series rather than Cup
Id like to see jimmie go for one more win
Jimmie has been my guy since ’06-’07. I wish I didn’t get used to his dominance like I did. When he was doing those special 82nd, 83rd, and 84th win helmets, I was excited to see how close he could get to Jeff Gordon’s 93. But then 2017 Pocono happened. None of us knew that that was the last we would likely ever see him championship or even winning level fast. I guess it’s a good lesson to have, don’t get used to good times. Enjoy every moment. He’s still my biggest hero to this day, and I’m not too upset because for a little over 10 years my guy held the spotlight and did what many others couldn’t. Glad I got to watch and cheer for a humble legend
I met Jimmie in 02 or 03 and I think also in 05, he was extremely nice and he deserves much more respect than he gets or I give him, but it’s hard because the moment he came in it was obvious jeffros team was the B team ina attempt to build jimmy. Also jimmy’s success and dominance contributed to the steep decline especially in 08, after he just kept winning and winning them we get the worst race in history the brickyard and of course he wins, it was horrible.
Excuses for Jimmie, he was just never that good
And learn to quit while you are on top. I know he was relatively young in 2016, but he should probably have retired and just rode off into the sunset.
he never got win 84
@Hi, My name is Boden but I think they did the 84th win helmet didn’t they? He was doing that honoring who he was passing on the all time wins list thing
I think Jimmie Johnson probably feels like he wants to drive top tier equipment and not end his entire career on the s show his handful of races have been this year. I wanna see him run upfront atleast once more
Just because he’s switching to Toyota doesn’t mean it’s gonna be top-tier equipment.
@NoSoyAllowed Toyota is right up there with Hendrick equipment. All there teams run good
HMS was still decent from 2017-2019. They just weren’t title contending good really until late 2019 into 2020.
@GreatHitNickYes, but Toyota is bad for long term success if you aren’t Gibbs.
Also, I don’t think he’s just out there for fun… I’m sure he is out there in part due to additional funding he can bring in for the team running these races.
He’s out there for having fun and if he can help the team he will do that
Yes, but running just for a paycheck is sometimes a bad reason to run.
What you have to realize Eric is that if they want to do a dirt race go to a purpose built dirt track. Spending all this damn money to haul in dirt and haul it back out isn’t financially liable. Also having just the bristol night race would incentivise people to show up, just look at how well dover has done with 1 date now with attendance. Just give me regular bristol. I rejoice with other fans that would be happy if this change happens.
To add to that, that entire southeast area (Tennessee, Georgia, the Carolinas, and Virginia) imo is oversaturated. As an Ohioan, I would love to see NASCAR race at Eldora and/or Mid-Ohio.
@Elijah JPeldora would be awesome. The racing on dirt has been great last year and this year.
ABSOLUTE HUGE JJ FAN I hate 2018 roval so much.. still hurts. 2020 Darlington was pain. And I want to remember the good ole days too but Racing is just different when he’s involved. If he pulled a Carl edwards I’d be crushed. He hasn’t been the same since Pocono 2017 but why does he have to be absolutely dominant 100% of his career to be legitimate? He doesn’t. If he wants to race, whether he’s fight for 1 or 31 I’ll be cheering and remembering everything his careers meant to me over the years. I don’t want him to quit. The struggle reminds of how great he was and how impressive 5 in a row is! LEGENDARY! Go #84!
Carl looks smarter every day to me. He went out in his own terms while he was still competitive and did not continue just for the paycheck.
I was a Gordon fan for life and I am thankful I got to see him go out on top. His win at Martinsville in his final year was one of my happiest memories as a racing fan.
Hell, he even did pretty well subbing for Jr. Granted he wasn’t even out of the car for a full year yet but still
I too will be sad to see dirt go. I really enjoyed it and I think it was a good look into the different skill sets of the drivers.
My interest in NASCAR is almost entirely driven by Jimmie’s presence at this point, I’ve gotten over the fact that he’s not picking up #8. It’s not realistic to expect that at this point in his career. I’m just happy he’s enjoying the ride and staying in the scene somehow, makes the sport feel so much more alive to me
Pocono in 2017 ended that dream. For whatever reason, Jimmie lost that courage or drive.
@Easy E Network Honestly I thought he still had it in him until that Roval run in 2018. Seeing that one broke my poor 8th-grade self’s heart
I think the Cup Series needs a dirt race, but it needs to be at a designated dirt track like Knoxville, Eldora, or Lucas Oil Speedway. And it would be cool if there was 2 or 3 of them per year on the schedule.
Only if they made the cars faster on dirt.
I remember Petty and Waltrip when they were running good. Sadly, their last years were not good at all. A lot of newer fans never really knew who they were save to comments from the booth. It is taken the 75th annaversary to bring a lot of that out for some of the guys that have had success a long time ago. It was great to see Gordon go out on top. One of the few that was that successful to the end.
Gordon, Sr., Harvick kind of, Stewart somewhat, Edwards. Staying too long is the worst thing you can do in pro sports.
I have a feeling that at this point Jimmie wants to run a few races a season until he actually runs decent so he doesnt end on a super sour note. But I completely understand Jimmie and why he wants to continue racing. I am a fellow racer and even when you struggle and dont run the greatest you still love the feeling of going fast and racing. I am a Jimmie fan and i completely understand his decision.
