Honestly I have to give NASCAR a pass on trying whatever they feel will help grow the sport like you said because North Wilkesboro was brought back.
Let’s see how you feel about that “pass” on July 3rd
I’ve a feeling it will be as everyone else thinks, a clusterfck
@Douglas young how open-minded of you
@Bruh_Im_A_Pigeon
Why beat around the bush?
I gave my opinion, what’s yours?
Or you just feel safer without giving one
I’m not against the Chicago Street Race. I don’t like that it took Road America off the schedule and hope there’s still a place for Montreal. I’m interested to see how a street race will go for NASCAR.
Road America is likely to be back on the Cup schedule soon enough and there’s rumors going around that NASCAR may return to Montreal next year with the Cup Series. I sure am hoping it comes to fruition!
I agree it’s a bummer Road America was taken off the schedule. That’s always been my biggest complaint with the Chicago race. Hopefully there’s a place for RA again soon.
@Eric Estepp Oh man, I didn’t realize it was at the expense of Road America. I mean I get it.
@David Copeland imagine a NASCAR-F1 double header
@InTheZoneThat might not be as great as you think. I follow a few different international series that will team with F1 and unless you work out a special deal with them F1 and more importantly Liberty Media own the international TV rights to ALL races on track. So for example I follow the Australian Supercars series who raced with F1 in Melbourne earlier this year and I pay to watch their races here in Canada. I was unable to watch the four races the Australian Supercars had in Melbourne cause the series couldn’t reach a deal on the international rights for those races.
Can’t wait to see how it all play’s out
I really hope the street race is good. But I hope they bring Road America back soon. This is just my opinion.
I think they will, I imagine NASCAR wants come back and only dropped it because it was the only track without a deal for this year and next
Lost 2 of my hometracks I go every year Road America and Chicago luckily I got michigan
I’m excited for the race and i hope it goes well so that we can come back next year. I’m just hoping eventually we can take this to Detroit, Nashville, Philadelphia, Denver, or Miami.
I’m still hoping for Long Beach. They can 1-up IndyCar and F1 in the same weekend too, also maybe have endurance racing with up to 3 events in 1 day if the area is clustered (like Chicagoland, the Carolinas, and Southern California), that way no track goes to waste and no crew complains about having to go coast to coast in only 3 days
Denver since the rocky mountain region doesn’t currently host a NASCAR race
It would be cool if nascar and f1 did a miami grand prix weekend. Nascar on Saturday and F1 on Sunday
I think they agreed to a 3 year deal with the city of Chicago
Belle Isle in Detroit would have been a better spot logistically in terms of the affect on surrounding businesses. Not public roads that are used to commute need to be closed. You know the track can host events, it has hosted multiple Indy races and now Indy isn’t using it so it would be perfect for nascar to inquire about. The only issue resides in parking and traffic flow being that there is only one bridge onto the island. I still think if Nascar does another street race Detroit, Motor City, the birthplace of Muscle, is the perfect location
Could work out down the line.
Belle Isle is never coming back sadly. The reason why IndyCar and IMSA left for the new downtown circuit is cause people hated it. An activist group has been on the city’s and IndyCar’s butts about turning Michigan’s popular park into a race track. If NASCAR announced they were gonna race at Belle Isle u would’ve seen the same negativity as u would now with the Streets of Chicago. Nashville Street Course I don’t think would be a good place for NASCAR, seeing that they already have NASHVILLE SS and at some point the Fairgrounds. If the layout was better I’d say yeah, but it hasn’t done well with IndyCar, Trans Am, and GTWC sadly. But the Detroit downtown circuit I can see NASCAR trying out in the future if the city can make it work with with many racing series there in 1 weekend. Trans Am put on good races in both race 1 and 2, and IndyCar was surprisingly really good. Wasn’t expecting to see passes where they were being done. Interesting to see how it’ll be next year.
Belle Isle is to narrow for Nascar. It’s a fun idea bit it had a hard time passing with Indy car let alone a Nascar.
I would love to look out of my window and see Kyle Larson on the Brooklyn Bridge going 200 mph
I’m sad for Greg Van Aldst & his troubles in the ARCA Menards series. His comments along with Lagano’s comments about needing money to drive a truck race @ Bristol dirt IS VERY concerning. I hate that the Chicago street race is the Fourth of July weekend & took it away from Road America up in Wisconsin. The reason Daytona didn’t mind losing this weekend WAS because it was already going to be busy there for the 4th. Chicago will probably have the same issue as Daytona did. Move it another date & give the 4th back to Road America where families celebrate the 4th with NASCAR racing ALL around that road course & take that Indy road course away & go back to the oval & the Brickyard 400
Greg and Joey are absolutely correct. It’s not about talent, today it’s all about $ you bring. Even all way down to all late model rides. I have a 18 year old that is super talented but I can’t afford to even get him in lowest late model class.
Having worked for a late model race team, sponsorship is everything! Thankfully the driver I worked for had a great sense of humor & easily picked up sponsors. His dad who ran a high end used dealership could sell snow to an Alaskan.. that’s been a few years back as he did retire..
Eric! Chicago resident here and I am at least as excited as you are! It’s going to be a fun weekend!!!
As some who lives 5 minutes from the track, im not a fan of Cup leaving Road America as we packed 100,000+ both years but at least we still have Xfinity and the trucks at Milwaukee Mile. Either way, Nascar needs to first fix the road course product before we can talk on which road courses should stay/go/come back
I live about 20 min east of the mile, Nascar hates the look of racing in the middle of corn fields in the middle of nowhere. They’d rather try and look trendy and hip like f1 or indycar and race downtown REGARDLESS of how high the crime rate is SMH
Chicago stealing a race from a historical hotbed of short track racing in Wisconsin will always trigger me in this instance. If at track attendance matters even a little, just look at what the crowds did at Road America the past two years. I am almost willing to put money on the fact that the on track product, regardless of the next gen car’s issues, at Road America will prove to be more competitive than a street course at Chicago. The Bears fans are finally happy again…they finally beat Wisconsin, just not on the football field.
It’s more of them hating how racing in the middle of corn fields “looks” on tv so lets race in chi-raque.
On a more positive note as a Chicagoan through and through awesome to see the sponsors come up for the street course!! Wont be as huge as the Taylor Swift week in June but its definitely gonna be good for business as least in its first few years and im hoping everyone chicago residents, politicians and nascar fans alike can benefit from it!!
I mean, it’s the masses. They’ll listen to talentless hacks using Autotune for HOURS, using the same rhythm. Real talent has been gone since 2008
I’m actually excited about this man! It’s different and something new and the next gen car can shift quick and brake good so I think it will be a pretty cool race to watch on tv. I wish more nascar race were open to different things, I feel like I’m the only one sometimes lol. I really like the new next gen car they just need to figure out the short track set up, the car is too good for short tracks.
I’m a Chicago native my whole life. I was one of the first try to get tickets. Well, that was not the case. For three people going for both days was way over my budget. Even though I will not be there, I still happy that they are have the race here and will be watching the race here at home.
I’m super excited… a little annoyed Road America is not on the schedule. With Bandimere leaving the Denver area… I’d be super interested to see them do a race in the Denver area.
Honestly, I am kind of excited to see what it’s like. I just hope it’s not a qualification dependant race like Monaco in F1 is
As a fan of the Nascar Pinty’s Series in Canada I am excited to see the Chicago street race. Since Pinty’s has a few street courses on the schedule and to me the product is decent. Yes most likely half the field will have damage with all the tight turns but then again races like Bristol and other short tracks see a lot of bumping and rubbings through out the whole race. Can’t wait to see the outcome of the race because maybe they might think about added another maybe try out the street course in Toronto Canada during the Indy weekend.
