Josh Berry is almost certainly going to be announced to the #4 car replacing Kevin Harvick at Stewart-Haas Racing. This ultimately pushes Stewart-Haas Racing into a majorly needed rebuild of the struggling organization. But the #4 program was/may not be the only one in need of a new driver in the NASCAR Cup Series as Aric Almirola may or may not return to the #10 car in 2024. Other drivers have had their names thrown around in the rumor mills for what will certainly be a highly coveted ride and today we look at all of it. Stewart-Haas Racing as a complete team. So the full rebuild begins | who follows Josh Berry to SHR?

Do you think Stewart-Haas Racing is finally back on the right track?
Sorta
I Wish I Would Say Yes But No.
No. Berry is a bad hire in my opinion. They should have taken what ever FRM driver isn’t getting a ride next season (probably Gilliland) since all 3 of them are better than Berry and two of them are younger.
LOL No
If briscoe is the top tier driver they are DOOMED he is trash only good a maybe a handful of track and that’s being generous, he is back marker and cannot get a TOP 10 unless we run a over peopled, he will be out a ride in 3 years and berry will be the best on a bad team
I think they have hit the reset button with younger drivers and probably the 10 will be gilliand or smith
Maybe Shr can finally become competitive again if they play the cards right
So far it hasn’t been the case though.
Just another 25th place driver.
Good for Josh Berry. NASCAR needs more cup drivers that get their rides on talent and grit.
Josh Berry is not ready though.
@Run Rafa Run #THEBESTINTHEWORLD explain
He’s proven his worth as Hendrick’s replacement driver. There are some doubts in the back of my head, but they aren’t that loud. I can see him as a possible championship contender in 2-3 years
Talent and grit….and Dale Earnhardt Jrs wallet.
Great Job for Berry. He’s been a guy who deserves a shot in cup and we’ve seen it with him subbing for Chase Elliott. Good for him to finally have a top ride in cup with SHR.
He’s not ready for Cup though. He’s not gonna be winning a lot either..
I rather have Berry over Zane smith!
I couldn’t be any happier for Josh Berry
Todd Gillilands been driving for his life this season litterally.
Yep while being basically replaced by someone else.
I say he should get the 10 ride.
Nah, Zane Smith should go to SHR. Todd can keep the 38
I feel like Front Row is gonna give McDowell the boot before Gilliland. They’d want to keep Smith and Gilliland to build around.
So, McDowell’s most likely headed for Stewart Haas.
I think their best bet if they’re going to replace aric almirola is McDowell. The last thing they want is a rookie wrecking all their crap. I also think McDowell would give much better feedback than Zane Smith or Riley Herbst
Yes!! I would love to see McDowell.
I would like to see Michael McDowell or Todd Gilliland get a shot at good equipment. McDowell outperforms his crap equipment. Gilliland has been solid
The question wasn’t if SHR were going to rebuild. It was when would they start.
Todd Gilliland is by far the most underrated driver this season.
Berry in the 4 will mean he’s in a bit of a low pressure environment where he can develop his craft as a race car driver. I think he’ll have a tough rookie 2024 season as I believe Stewart-Haas racing will continue going through this mediocre period and even go through the same growing pains as Hendrick Motorsports did from 2018-2019. Berry might just have a William Byron style career
I’ve said this before already, but I’m not too sure if SHR is making the right decision. I think that what SHR really needs is a stable veteran driver to lead the team into the future like what Harvick and Stewart were doing.
Every team needs at least 1 experienced driver to help develop the team as a whole from young drivers, to inexperienced pit crews, to sponsors getting their name out there. And, over the last decade that responsibility has been on the shoulders of Stewart and Harvick, while Almirola and Newman have been left to earn wins, and Danica, Preece, Briscoe, and Custer have been trusted to just learn the ropes, and be ready to take on the shoes of their elders when the time comes.
So far, neither Briscoe or Preece look to be ready to take on the leadership role in the garage just yet, although Briscoe looks to be getting there.
I really think that the team should look into getting a seasoned veteran like McDowell, Hamlin (if his FedEx contract isn’t renewed) or even an outsider to the sport like Montoya or even Lewis Hamilton to fill the veteran shoes of Harvick.
Berry is a good choice, and I think that he’ll grow into it eventually. However, an older figure would be wise to invest in to help the trusted successors to the leadership role improve for the future to come.
I know you didn’t mention their name but a little twist I think that could happen is Tony Stewart nabbing Carl Edwards who Ford knows very well or even Kasey Kahne out of retirement and driving the 10. Kasey Kahne said last month he is interested in returning to the Cup Series and Carl seems to be wanting to comeback as well.
I doubt either of them would want to return full-time, and I don’t think Tony would pick another old driver to replace an old driver, sadly.
I thought Burton would do better in that 21 car since Dibenedetto always did pretty good in it
Good for Josh berry maybe he can bring few sponsors with him.
Feel like ya missed one, easily the most far out and least likely but… we have been seeing more and more of Carl Edwards at the track lately does he have an itch that Ford and SHR could Scratch? not to mention the poetic justice of joining the team that denied him probably his best chance at a title years ago.
Obviously im a biased Preece fan but i think the trajectory is up on the 41. His stretch the last few races is better than Custer managed in the next gen, and I’d imagine his success at Nashville is going to carry it another week. Feel like they just need to get Chad Johnston confident, listening to Preece’s radio every week Johnston is really nervous to make big changes and Preece has to coach him a lot to stay confident. Preece also needs experience being in better than JTG or JD equipment full time, which I think is why he started off slow. Hopefully they keep the momentum up
I think if they can get Tony and Gene making nascar their priority again SHR will have the speed again
SHR definitely needs a rebuild and adding Josh Berry is a really great start. Especially that the rest of the team is staying. Drivers to look at for the 10 – McDowell (so mulch talent and brings sponsors), LaJoie perhaps? Not sure on a sponsors though. Could look at Xfinity also but they don’t need super young guys right now.
