Always assume that a car will hit every single wall around a track. There is no excuse to not have a SAFER barrier there and NASCAR and Nashville superspeedway dropped the ball on safety. And I don’t wanna hear the “they couldn’t afford a SAFER barrier there or it is too expensive” excuse. If they can not afford one, then they should not have a date on the schedule, and you can not put a price on safety. It is 2023. You’d think NASCAR would learn but evidently they have not
They’ve made a lot of changes as far as the car goes. Just need updates to every wall at every track they race that isn’t covered
What do they do about pit road though?
Yeah, if you need a barrier there, it’s because you think a car might hit it, so you need a wall to protect the people/equipment behind the barrier from a car.
So if you care enough about the stuff behind the wall and think it’s likely enough to happen that you need a barrier there at all, you should also care enough about the driver and think it’s likely enough to happen that you need a SAFER barrier.
I almost hope they have some dumb excuse, I think that’s better than “didn’t think of it”
you’d think they’d just put one everywhere like they did at all the other ovals. Or did they? Now I’m curious if there’s other gaps I never noticed.
When Larry speaks, people listen.
Facts, different topic loved the NBC broadcast but when the announcers sort of ticked me off when they quickly brushed over the fact that for whatever reason there wasnt a safer barrier there
Don’t we all ❤ Larry Mac
Larry was Pretty disappointed on seeing that wall with no safety especially on an oval
Imagine he took this exact same hit to the rear of the car instead. Also, you can tell how legitimately angry Larry is here, and rightly so.
And yes, I know they’ve improved the rear of these cars, but this hit could have happened last year before the modifications.
Larry watched several of his drivers be injured as the CC of the 28 car, and this past year plus probably has given him 90s and 2000/2001 flashbacks
@Triston Webb He has the horror of what happened with the number 3 car.
You know NASCAR messed up when Larry Mac gets angry.
He nearly lost a good friend at Michigan in Ernie Irvan as a crew chief, and lost his friend Dale Sr in 2001. He absolutely is qualified to speak on issues on this.
If there’s no Safer Barrier, they should lose the Cup race.
Dig in Larry. When Larry Mac gets heated, things happen in nascar. He was fired up
The one consolation was that Blaney was OK! or we would be watching a totally different newscast. How long will it take nascar to wake up to the safety issues with the circuit? Its either the car, and now its the walls at the tracks. I would have liked to have seen the in-car cockpit video of the impact that Blaney took. That should tell the story. But, dont think nascar will release that.
Atta boy Larry! Tell it like it is!
Love it.
I honestly don’t think I’ve ever seen Larry Mac that pissed off. He’s right there’s no excuse. Bad on the track and NASCAR
This incident really shows how complacent NASCAR has become over the last decade. You’d think they would be ultra worried about safety ever since Newman’s accident in 2020, but somehow they’re barely safer than they were then. They just refuse to learn the lessons being taught by all of these accidents, near misses, and injuries. Truly terrifying to think about.
Larry Mac was mad and rightfully so, Absolutely love Larry Mac here! You tell em! Exactly what i said yesterday!
I totally agree with Larry Mac. There’s no excuse to not have the safety barriers in place around this whole track. I’m glad Blaney is okay.
This falls back on NASCAR.
100%
It’s their job to protect their drivers.
That’s at 50 imagine some situation where a car hits that at around 100 or even higher could be catastrophic.
Nashville put on some sensational racing Sunday night. The track is too FAST to not have safety barriers in those areas.
I love Larry Mac, the guys passion is unmatched.
Finally getting some crush zones in these rigid Next Gen cars, if the changes and modifications from a few weeks ago were not made this would have been way worse, the crash test dummy saga continues, they are getting there.
I remember when Larry Mac went off after Kyle Busch’s accident at Daytona in 2015, when he hit a non safer barrier wall. I always wonder if he ticked off NASCAR with his criticism, and wound up out of the Fox booth not long after that. But Larry Mac is 100% right also on Blaney’s crash
That is weird how that one little strip of wall is still concrete, I remember Kyle Busch at Daytona years ago hitting that same area so it can happen on that part of the racetrack.
Glad to see someone is really upset over the lack of Safer Barriers — If it was Pocono, they all would be enraged…
