I hope it goes well! That pit entry kinda scares me though…
I’m very skeptical about this. On one hand, it could be a disaster. On another hand, it could help bring back Chicagoland
It can go one of 2 ways. It will either be the biggest surprise in NASCAR history and be a good race. Or it could end up being the biggest disaster since the 1969 Talladega 500.
It won’t be that bad.
Anything would be better than having a boring vanilla race. It’s going to be interesting to see how it goes.
@Salty Flightdeck CPOthat’s not true. Bad races are worse than boring races. And this new car has had like 2 boring races ever, so it’s not like the gen 6 where an average next gen race would be considered the best of the year.
@Daniel Chai My opinion is just as true as your opinion. It is strictly an individual opinion. Your disagreement does not make my opinion false. You might one day come to grips that not everyone is always going to agree with your views. You should develop tolerance for differing opinions.
@Salty Flightdeck CPO bad races are worse for nascar and fans than a boring race. And I didn’t say you can’t have an opinion. Just that in terms of motorsports and nascar as whole you’re opinion is one of someone that doesn’t like real racing. Just wrecking and chaos.
Between the pits, turn one and six sharing a wall, and it being a first race, this is gonna most likely be a wreck fest. First races never go smoothly though, so try to keep that in mind during the race.
Doesn’t nascar get paid to figure it all out, keep that in mind
Yeah, I remember that first Roval Reckfest with glee. I don’t think I stopped laughing for the whole race.
@d00dEEEthe first race at Indy road course was also a wreckfest in 2021 when one of the things went up and it kept catching the splitters sending drivers everywhere and Joey Logano in the wall
@American Walmarts We never saw Cup cars jump so high!
Dead excited for it, hoping it works well for another city street race next year
I’m honestly really excited regardless if it’s good or bad
Me too, I really wanted to go since I’m less than an hour away but those ticket prices…
I had tickets but I’m in Europe this weekend so some of my buddies got the biggest discount of their lives.

Being from the local area I am super excited for Nascar to be returning to the Chicagoland area. But I still would of loved to see them race at Road America or Chicagoland Speedway. Either super excited to see my first race in about 13 or years.
I think Nascar could honestly run at both Road America and Chicagoland Speedway. They’re far enough apart and they have a big enough market, I can totally see it working.
@Craig Stephenson I would honestly try to attend both too
@Brass Bolt 13 Gaming I would honestly trade Kansas’ second date for Chicagoland. I don’t know if that’s possible with ownership, and I do like Kansas a lot, but having more difference tracks on the schedule makes it more diverse and increases both attendance and TV ratings. Only tracks that should have multiple dates are Daytona, Dega, Charlotte, and maybe Darlington.
@Craig Stephenson Both Chicagoland and Kansas are owned by ISC so there is a possibility. Maybe this weekend will show ISC and Nascar there is still a fan base here.
Having lived here for 50 years, I can tell you the makeup of ethnicity in Chicagoland has changed. It is still a sports town but not as enthusiastic. Bears are moving out of city limits is a sign of the change. Crime is bad. Housing is falling behind. Sorry to be so down on this race. I really don’t think city wants tourism. New mayor certainly doesn’t. Tourism doesn’t make good politics and the new mayor is all about politics. Sanctuary city is all the rage.
Eric, I think qualifying is going to be absolutely critical for drivers this weekend. You do not want to be mid-pack or way back in this race. If you’re not top at least in the top 10 or 15 there’s going to be some worried drivers especially with how tight the track is.
Before I watch this video, I just want to say I don’t care how it turns out. I’m gonna have fun and spend as much time on grant park this weekend as I can! I’m so excited for this weekend!!!

as someone who had gone to like the past 4 or 5 chicagoland speedway races i was really annoyed and kinda devasted when that race was off the shcedule now this race costs too much for me to got to but im glad Nascar isnt forgetting the chicagoland area entirely even if its just a downtown race ya know the old nascar games had a chicago street race for those who remember the walmart track in those games and its funny to see them doing a real chicago street race after all these years
Can hardly wait! This could be the most fun a NASCAR event has provided in years. Now come to Circuit Gilles Villeneuve!
When I heard this event was gonna be in the July 4th weekend, I was pumped and seriously considered going as this is gonna be a unique and special event until I saw the prices. Combining travel, accommodation and tickets was wayyyyyy too much, I decided to return instead to Mid-Ohio for the indycar race that I had an absolute blast at where 2 weekend tickets are less than a single general admission ticket in Chicago. Still though I really hope that this race succeeds
JUly 4th Chi-Raq seems like a bad plan
Not a road course fan but nascar is putting a lot of money into it to grow the sport so I hope it works out.
I’ve been pretty cynical when it comes to this race. Mainly surrounding the staying power it has. Street circuits are the most disposable type of racing, and can end up being forgotten to time (ex: F1 Valencia, Indycar Baltimore, Formula E: too many to count). With that said, I am really interested in seeing how this race goes. Even if it’s the only one we’ll ever see it’s definitely going to be memorable. For better or for worse.
Chicago really needs this positive, to replace the negative that seems to be in their local news just about every day. I hope that this goes well for that city.
They have been complaining about closures for weeks
I’m just hoping their local news in daily events don’t affect the race and take any lives….
Fun fact: NASCAR unleashed actually predicted the next gen bodies and the tracks including the Chicago street course.
As someone who enjoys Australia’s supercars series I’m absolutely geeking, can’t wait til Sunday
Im excited about this race! Something different, I think it’s important for NASCAR to try new things to try to retain and earn fans.
I think city courses have a role in the future of racing in general and NASCAR should embrace it and realize for the sport having track type diversity is always important.
As an Australian I am extremely excited. And not just because Shane Van Gisbergen is competing. This is a car that was built to emulate a V8 Supercar whilst remaining as authentically NASCAR as possible. Racing on a Circuit that would be right at home on the V8 Supercar Calendar, being a street circuit much like Townsville, Newcastle, Gold Coast and Adelaide. I can’t wait to see what Shane can do in a car closer to a V8 Supercar than any other car on earth, at a track that is closer to what we race on than any other circuit NASCAR races on. Let’s go SVG and Trackhouse!
Still want Larson to win though. He has been my guy since his CGR days, and that won’t change. But I want Shane to do well, simply because I want people to realise his true talent, the talent he is often hated for because of the dominance it brought in Australia.
