The Last Chicagoland Race (For Now)

Visit the New Merch Store Here:

NASCAR has done its best to be in the Chicago and Chicagoland area for the last 2 decades or so. This year NASCAR will grace the streets of Chicago in the first ever NASCAR Cup Series street race. With it there is a ton of excitement and hype but there is a small contingency of fans who still are holding out for the previous Chicago market track. The Chicagoland Speedway, a track that has not been on any NASCAR schedule and had been raced since 2019. This is the last Chicagoland race (for now)

Do you want the Chicagoland Speedway back on the NASCAR schedule?

There was great racing down to the last few laps and a brand new winner that, unlike other drivers, rose to the top on merit, not because of family or money. An amazing race.

It was so cool to see a driver get there first win in person, easily my favorite race I’ve ever attended

This is, by far, my favorite race with the 550 package, because there was never a moment I was bored. The combination between the weather and multi groove racing was just so perfect. This is what NASCAR wanted when they made this aero package.

This race was epic. There was never a sign of a clear winner until Bowman passed Larson back again at the end. I strongly believe this track will return but if it doesn’t it went out on a high note in 2018 and 2019.

It’ll be a match-made in heaven to have the Gen 7 cars race at Chicagoland!

*and also IndyCar*

I can’t wait to see if we can see how it races at Indianapolis. I never wanted them to leave. Even if the racing wasn’t great according to some, it still had an amazing feel around it in my opinion.

@Herobrine Hoax I’ve had a soft spot for the Brickyard 400 as well

2019 was one of the best seasons i ever experienced. And this race was one of the best of 2019

I was there for that race and it was the first race I’ve ever seen in person. I was a Larson fan so I was pissed but definitely a great race

Even if my man Larson never won and had 2 devastating 2nd place finishes, Chicagoland was honestly one of my favorite tracks because of its good racing.

Same. Still so fun to see him battle for the win, even if he never pulled through.

The fact that NHRA returned to the Route 66 Nationals in Joliet, IL this year is a very good sign for Chicagoland. The track is race ready. It just needs a spot on the schedule.

Unfortunately the drag strip and the dirt track are owned separately from Chicagoland Speedway so it’s hard to say for sure. The dirt track has been hosting many races even when covid was still very prominent and has really been the only thing that’s making good money right now

Get rid of COTA from the schedule it’s nothing but a wreck fest and bumpercars in all 3 NASCAR series.

As a relatively new NASCAR fan, I would love to see you do more breakdowns of famous, or even not so famous, races throughout NASCAR’s history.

One of my favorite races overall, was super happy to see Johnson lead some laps and be competitive before the rain came xD

I remember watching F1 Austria before this as well, and that was a good race so watching this was even better, great day I must say!
Hope this track comes back soon for sure, miss it a lot

I remember being here for the last race. We got to go onto the tri oval before the race, that was fun. What wasn’t was the storm. You are right it was a nasty storm. I remember being under the stands and it being flooded about all the way to my shins.

Well, first off, I remember watching the Cup race at Chicagoland back in 2019 and I was rooting my hardest to see Alex Bowman finally get his first win, which he did by holding off a hard-charging Kyle Larson. Second, I still have my own opinion on the Chicago Street Race this weekend because if NASCAR wanted to return to Chicago so badly, they should have just brought Chicagoland Speedway back while making it a Saturday night race and I also wish that NASCAR could have found a way to keep Road America on the Cup schedule. All-in-all, in the end, I’ll keep praying that we see Chicagoland Speedway return to NASCAR in the near-future because I believe the Next-Gen car could produce some great racing there, so until then, goodbye!

I would love to see this track back on the schedule. Especially with how good mile and a half tracks have been with the new car, plus how good this race, and others in years prior, were. Also, why didn’t it come back in ’21. I know covid is why it got taken off the 2020 schedule, but what was the reason for 2021 to present day?

I remember that race. This was my first live race and I had my dad with me. I will never forget that day.

Chicagoland and Fontana are two great redemption stories for tracks that weren’t loved at first. I hope we at least see Chicagoland return some day. RIP Fontana
