We haven’t even made it to the race yet and like ten guys have crashed. And they’re all hitting concrete walls…

Sharonda Murray July 1, 2023 at 7:39 pm

It’s going to be 20 cautions maybe more

SockPops July 1, 2023 at 7:48 pm

The barriers are flexible so they can give a bit, and the drivers are moving at lower speeds than at ovals. Please stop pretending this is any more dangerous than hitting a SAFER barrier at 160.

Evasion July 1, 2023 at 7:56 pm

@SockPopsThey build up a lot of speed on the long straights, and if something like a brake failure were to happen in a bad spot it would be a massive impact. Blaney hit a concrete wall at a slow speed and yet said it was the hardest hit of his career.

@SockPops A slow hit with lots of lateral energy release on a SAFER barrier ended Kurts career. Please stop pretending like you have any idea what tf you are talking about…

@Evasion Please, unless you have a degree in physics and understand energy, don’t make comments regarding the safety of drivers. You genuinely don’t know what you’re talking about.

Incredibly good to see him give the thumbs up. I was worried this would be the ending note of his career.

Jeez everyone is going to end up in back up cars at this point

I think this track makes texas motor speedway look better as a harvick fan this sucks thank goodness he’s ok just hope he can still run tomorrow because thats a hard hit

This race is going to be a disastrous shitshow

Can’t be worse than North Wilkesboro!

Reply
JKspeed July 1, 2023 at 8:18 pm

Also probably there will be a record of cautions.

Reply
onethumbks July 1, 2023 at 8:31 pm

From day 1, this track was designed to entertain the simps that only watch for crashes.

Reply
Pointless Edits July 1, 2023 at 9:07 pm

Why, because it is a challenge? You predict a shitshow only because you want it to be that way so you can complain.

@onethumbks dumb comment of the day

3rd driver in cup so far to hit the wall on the apex, the inexperience is showing hard today. Would not surprise me at all if one of them did it tomorrow.

Reply
Hellogamer45 July 1, 2023 at 7:47 pm

It’s not really “inexperience”, it’s just that it’s a goofy track layout and it’s just long straightaways but hen high braking zones

Reply
toyotaecw July 1, 2023 at 8:38 pm

@Hellogamer45yeah… it’s called a street course

Reply
RandomHuman July 1, 2023 at 9:01 pm

@Hellogamer45 its 100% inexperience bc nascar cup drivers never race on street courses. It happens in other series that race on street courses all the time

Reply
Tomas Mowery July 2, 2023 at 1:58 am

I figured it was going to be like this. I don’t care what they say about these cars. They’re not built for a street Course. Nascar has a race ready 1 1/2 mile track Chicagoland Speedway 40 minutes outside the city. That track would sute this car. Save the teams money for not having as many torn up race cars.

Brem July 1, 2023 at 7:52 pm

Don’t hit the inside wall…
That’s driver error, not poor track design.

Reply
JKspeed July 1, 2023 at 7:58 pm

Do any of y’all think there will be a wreck that blocks the track?

Reply
EnragedPanda July 1, 2023 at 8:07 pm

Probably lol

Reply
Daniel Lubben July 1, 2023 at 8:10 pm

Most definitely. One car will spin out and then it’ll be bumper cars from there.

Reply
Richard Rice July 1, 2023 at 8:52 pm

@Daniel Lubbenjust like any day on the Kennedy(local expressway).

The people trying to defend nascar with these concrete walls saying “it’s slow speed, they’ve been racing without safer barriers forever” shame on y’all..blaney was going 60 mph when he hit the wall and said that was the biggest hit. Someone is gonna get run through the wall because you already know there’s a couple of guys out there(chastain,McDowell, briscoe) who use other cars to slow them down on the road courses. This is gonna be bad

Reply
RandomHuman July 1, 2023 at 9:08 pm

the issue with safer barriers at a street course is they are extremely difficult and expensive to implement. look at any other street course theres never safer barriers, just tire barriers of techpro in f1. unfortunately you can only put tire barriers in certain areas without impeding the racing line, and where harvick hit was one of them. its just an element of street courses unfortunately

Reply
rafael perez July 1, 2023 at 9:19 pm

@RandomHuman can’t put them down then don’t race there simple

Reply
Pointless Edits July 1, 2023 at 9:21 pm

Rage on Karen!

Reply
RandomHuman July 1, 2023 at 9:36 pm

idk its not an issue in any other series that races on street courses but the cars in other series are generally safer than gen 7 nascar cup cars so i’m on the fence about that

Reply
V8 Diva July 1, 2023 at 8:38 pm

The biggest problem at this track is that the way the guys laid out the walls for the corners is misleading. They have turns in the barriers and then when you follow that turn you think you’re safe for a follow through but there’s a random peak in the curve of the wall midway through that you cannot see. Then you get people like Chase, Ricky, and Harvick hitting them and slamming into the walls.

Reply
RandomHuman July 1, 2023 at 9:02 pm

its not a track specific issue all street courses are like that, its just that cup gius have never had to deal with it before

Reply
Pointless Edits July 1, 2023 at 9:06 pm

No need to make it easy on them. The challenge is the key.

Reply
V8 Diva July 1, 2023 at 11:03 pm

@RandomHuman not all.

Reply
V8 Diva July 1, 2023 at 11:03 pm

@pointlessedits  that’s not a challenge though, it’s just misleading a driver.

Reply
nicole wembley July 1, 2023 at 8:41 pm

What could possibly go wrong with very limited practice on a circuit nobody has ever raced. They are tearing up cars quick, just don’t want to see anyone get hurt, but this course is a joke in my opinion.

Richard Rice July 1, 2023 at 8:49 pm

I dont know why we need NASCAR, we can see this type of mayhem anyday. It’s called rush hour.

Not sure if Harvick was trying to be like Chase, or Chase was preemptively trying to be like Harvick.

Reply
ANC July 1, 2023 at 10:53 pm

I wasn’t able to watch qualifying. So am wondering why the heck another car was on-track at speed while Harvick was running a qualifying lap? If that 2 car had been any closer he might have collided with the wrecked 4.

Reply
RACINGUS95 July 1, 2023 at 10:54 pm

Is anyone gonna talk about SVG having the 2nd best lap time? Or is this not a good time to talk about it?

I’d LOVE to be wrong but I’m predicting about a 25th place finish for Happy Harvick tomorrow.

Wow drivers crashing at a new track, who would’ve guessed. Almost like it’s understandable because it’s a completely new layout and track type these drivers are not familiar with. Coincidentally, the fastest drivers in practice and qualifying are guys who have done this type of racing for a living. They just gotta learn
