USA showed a few Cup races back in 2016 when NBCSN was covering the Summer Olympics.

You clearly weren’t around in the ’80s. The Duel races occasionally aired on USA

The Chicago street is going to be nothing but a wreck Fest. At the end of the day nascar will have spent more money for the Chicago street race then it was worth. Hopefully I’m wrong and it’s not a wreck fest.

If someone has a hung throttle or brake failure its gonna be nasty since almost all of the track is concrete

Reply
B C July 1, 2023 at 6:52 pm

You mean just like a road course?

Reply
Blake Craft July 1, 2023 at 7:40 pm

They raced with concrete walls only for 50 years

Reply
Jonathan Martin July 1, 2023 at 9:40 pm

@B Cyou mean the track type that has tire barriers all over the place? The track type that has few unprotected concrete walls?

Reply
B C July 1, 2023 at 11:09 pm

@Jonathan Martin there are tire barriers in place to deal with brake failures and the concrete barriers do have some give. Take a look at Road America and you will see concrete everywhere and much of that doesn’t give. Your comment is false

Best solution for a car with lingering safety concerns: go to a track no one has been on and not have any safer barriers LOL. I just hope no one gets hurts in the race.

It’s not an oval. You’re a few feet from the wall. Lots of low speed corners as opposed to high speed

Reply
Jonathan Martin July 1, 2023 at 9:37 pm

@E Clarkand yet they’re still hitting the wall hard….

Reply
E Clark July 1, 2023 at 9:55 pm

@Jonathan Martin and where they would hit with any real speed in a head on collision are a shitload of tires….safer barriers exist on ovals because you can come careening in from the infield all the way to the top head on. Which isn’t gonna happen here at high speeds.

It’s almost like the type of race is important in determining what’s best. Safer barriers would decrease the width of the track by like 4 feet. Half a lane.

Use your head.

We need tire barriers there effective immediately

In racing sedans, the driver sits on the left side of the car with a roof over his head. In real race cars, he sits in the middle of the car and there are no roof pillars to block the view.
