As someone who watches V8 Supercars, I can’t say I’m surprised by his performance. However, I wasn’t expecting him to win the bloody race! GG SVG

I feel like the next gen cars are super similar to the supercars, probably a fairly natural transition. He took them to school today!

They’re actually very similar he talked about that during the weekend

Same here, I knew he would finish in the top 10 but didn’t think he would win

NASCAR regulars have never been on a street course.

Nascar said the race was going to be historical. We laughed at them. But now there the ones laughing. Congrats to SVG. This will definitely give nascar the expansion and recognition it deserves.

Agree. SVG stocks just went through the roof and NASCAR has gained alot more fans/viewers in the south pacific. Win/win

This is my first time even looking at what nascar is. I just found out about it today leaving church downtown an elder woman had warned us we’d be dealing with some serious traffic otw home. It’s cool though

NASCAR in it’s 75th anniversary, debuting their street race in downtown Chicago, racing in rain conditions, and an international racing superstar winning the race in his cup series debut??? This is revolutionary!

ToppCuber July 3, 2023 at 1:59 am

This race is going to be a crown jewel event for the rest of the series, I can see it already

Jimmietruck_offical July 3, 2023 at 2:07 am

He was the first to win in his debut since like,1963!

A New Zealander / Aussie race car pro in a left hand drive car showing the world he can mix with the best on their turf is an accomplishment that is unheard of and Australia has seen many drivers from over the world attend circuit races in Australia and not come close to doing what Shane has done Congrats SVG and team

Welcome to NASCAR, Shane Van Gisbergen!

One of the best motorsport performances I’m sure anyone has ever seen. The adaptation and enthusiasm shows this guy is an all around racer.

If you have followed his career from the start you will know he is a freak. The guy can seriously peddle on a street circuit. SVG is the man.

As a Supercars fan and not the biggest nascar fan of nascar had more street circuits like this the sport would have another viewer

I’m Australian and watch Supercars and Rallying, never watched a full Nascar race until today. Great race, amazing win by The Giz. I’m sure you’ll have a lot more views from Australia and NZ now.

Good street circuit, great layout for NASCAR and makes for exciting racing.
Congratulations to Van he is very talented racer back here in Australia and NZ. Be sorry to see him go to NASCAR but he needs more racing and he will get it there.

Beautiful city, much better race then I thought it would be, but it appears there were several people murdered that same day, that just blows my mind, that does not happen in my city.

It 100% looked like how Gissy drives a supercar. absolute no suprise at all.

This race went better than I could have ever imagined. Shane van Gisbergen winning is the icing on the cake. I would definitely love to see him do more Nascar races.

Back to back Trackhouse wins was amazing. SvG just schooled the whole field.

Reply
Nicholas Vassey July 3, 2023 at 2:21 am

Please tell me it could be a triple back to back next week if Suarez wins. He was running in the top 10 what happened to him? Also my favorite team is Trackhouse and since they came in they have been my go to team. Also do you think Suarez will get a win next week at Atlanta for the three peat win for Trackhouse?

Reply
The Guardian Wolf July 3, 2023 at 6:06 am

@Nicholas VasseySuarez rear ended SVG into a turn and destroyed the front left of his car

Reply
James July 3, 2023 at 3:06 pm

@The Guardian Wolf yeah i think svg had someone in front so was slower than suarez exoected and tagged the back of him.

Amazing drive by Gizzy. Utilizing patience the man carved through the field, it’s what makes him a beast and to adapt fast speaks volumes too. That’s what made him so ferocious in Supercars.

Not ONLY did he win the first ever NASCAR street race, he won in his series debut which hasn’t happened in 60 years. Wow. What a a way to enter the sport!

What a way to kick off a NASCAR career! Congratulations Shane!

Matt Jones July 3, 2023 at 3:02 am

This is the best driver I’ve ever seen in nascar because he doesn’t try to wreck drivers in front. He’s like inches from their rear bumper then passes with precision.

Reply
Red Oz July 3, 2023 at 8:41 am

That’s how they race in V8 Supercars, he’s very well grounded in that style of racing.

Reply
Dr. Smith July 3, 2023 at 11:57 am

When you are lucky enough to be in a car that is working perfectly (a rare thing) and a driver that can put it to good use, you don’t feel the need to touch anybody, not to take anything away from this young mans incredible drive to the win, against some of the best we have.

Paul Maldonado July 3, 2023 at 12:49 pm

Good point! And he doesn’t have a big ego
or come off as arrogant.

cadillacjohn1994 July 3, 2023 at 3:09 am

Trackhouse is really coming into its own now. In just two seasons with two full time drivers, they’ve grown into making Ross a championship contender, making Daniel a race winner, granting Kimi Raikkonen a career revival, and now making Shane van Gisbergen a race winner in his debut! I’m really impressed!

Hopefully, Shane can make a full time debut someday. He’d be great here, if he keeps this performance up in any other future starts he makes.

Jeffrey Vences July 3, 2023 at 4:01 am

He said in his interview he has one more season of supercars and then it’s open game. He sounded pumped
