Days of Thunder has become a cult classic movie since its release in 1990, especially among NASCAR fans. Now there is news of the sequel to it coming out around some 35 years later as Days of Thunder 2 has been rumored to go in pre-production. With that I’m sure many NASCAR fans have tons of ideas for how they want the movie to be made or what to include, I am no different. So today let’s look at How Days of Thunder 2 Can Be A Great NASCAR Movie.

What do you want to see from Days of Thunder 2?
Alex bowman in it
some references to things that actually happened in real NASCAR. Hail Melon, for example. Maybe…just maybe…
Get rid of the romance stuff.
I want to see someone sponsored by Heinz 57 so they can carry that little ketchup bottle all around the pits for interviews like they do sports drinks. If they win, I want to see them chugging ketchup and spraying it all over the crowd.
@AndyFromBeaverton We need to get Steve-O into a hot sauce sponsored car, so he can chug hot sauce in victory lane.
If this movie is Top Gun: Maverick, but with race cars, that will be peak *CINEMA*
I sure hope so
That’s literally what I’m hoping for, Top Car Maverick
I just want them to use the next gen
For what it’s worth, Top Gun: Maverick was pretty successful as a sequel and that was done decades after the first film. Days Of Thunder could be as acclaimed if done right.
“pretty successful”
Before watching the video. I’d really like a movie from any of the 2000s era. When the cars were really loud. When the racing was really good. And is a perfect era to connect both old and new fans. You could also have many cameos and appearances from actual racers who are retired
I am all for it! John C Reily better be in it too
Nicole Kidman as well. Unlike Tom Cruise’s love interest in Top Gun, Kidman has actually held up pretty well in the third of a century since the original film.
If they can do Days of Thunder 2 like Top Gun Maverick then I don’t see why it can’t be a good movie.
If they need a stunt driver, just hire Ross Chastain. He’s already proven that he’s willing to do crazy stunts (the Hail Melon).
He’s Tom cruise, he’s in Scientology, and he does his own stunts
If Days of Thunder 2 is indeed happening, I’d personally like to see the movie being more about Cole Trickle teaching his son or daughter the ropes of being a nascar driver, and his kid takes a road similar to that of Alan Kulwicki, building their own team, and creating their own name like their dad did.
I think that would be a cool sequel. Maybe not as good as the first one, but a good story nonetheless.
Let’s just hope that the sequel can be as great as Maverick, and I think it could. But I’m excited for this sequel not matter what.
You could have Robert Duvall Harry Hogg own the race team the actor drives for. And he has a grandson on the pit box, that could be done
I am all for a Tom Cruise led Days of Thunder 2, I love this idea of him playing these older versions of characters (i.e. Maverick), and the thought of a veteran Cole returning would be pretty awesome and a nice full circle story I think…
I’m also all in for Brad Pitt in the next days of thunder movie too.
So. A Floyd Gilette type character shows up with his infinite amount of money and makes a mockery of the sport, which confuses some sort of Arnando Perez type character who’s new to the game and falls for the crowd, so maybe Tom Cruise is some sort of Angela Beard character who’s tired of this crap and wants to put a stop to it. So even though a 61/62 year old Tom Cruise turns it into Cars 3
Days of Thunder is basically Top Gun: NASCAR Edition, so with the huge success of Top Gun: Maverick I’m not at all surprised that Days of Thunder is getting a sequel.
I feel like it could be cool if Cole Trickle becomes a mentor for the main character of the movie like a passing of the torch.
This could be a huge deal for nascar if done right, movies have started both the rise and fall of nascar, the first days of thunder movie was a big push into nascar’s popularity, talladega nights kicked off the fall, if played right this along with some of the buzz around garage 56 and other recent events could be the start of a renaissance for the sport
I could see a story that’s heavily influenced by Jeff Gordon’s last season + in NASCAR. After a successful career, Cole looks to retire on top and win the Championship in his last season. He comes up short, but just barely. He becomes a car owner and mentors an upcoming driver. But that driver gets hurt in a serious accident and can no longer race. The injured driver reaches out to his mentor, Cole, and pleads for Cole to fill in for him. After dealing with conflicting feelings and apprehension, Cole agrees to come back for one last chance at glory.
Kyle or “Rowdy” returns as well to also add conflict or something…
Tom Cruise doesn’t F-around. He goes the full 10 yards, so as far as the effects, stunts (aka he’ll drive the car legit), and realistic aspects should be on point. I see no reason to not improve on the story here.
YES, yes, yes! The timing for NASCAR’s growing appeal and Tom Cruise movie quality could not be lining up better than this! My Ross Chastain Hail Melon diecast came in the mail literally as i watched this video, which to me is THE sign that this movie will be amazing lol!!! Can’t wait to see it, and I can’t wait to see how new fans are brought to the sport because of it!
I could see it being Cole Trickle in a Jeff Gordon role. He is in ownership or managing a team and has to shape a new driver. Maybe he gets the team handed over to him by Robert Duvall
This could be an absolute home-run for NASCAR! Right now, Tom Cruise is a summer movie blockbuster experience. Top Gun sequel was incredibly successful, Mission Impossible movies just keep getting better and better, and Cruise is a perfectionist. He’s going to do this right. I’m confident they’ll use real cars because they just built a whole train for the new mission impossible movie. He loves practical effects. Hell, he can probably even drive the car, he’s driven a F1 car before. And this could help the popularity battle in the US between F1 and NASCAR. F1 has a documentary that takes you behind the scenes, this movie could be an incredible experience, between the visuals and the sounds, especially in imax theaters. Can’t wait for this!
Also for racing movie sounds, Grand Prix and Le Mans are the best movies that showcase the sounds of race cars.
I would love to see a DoT reboot where the plan is to make a trilogy and see a character work their way up the ranks until they hit Cup Series.
