NASCAR has a ton of good momentum as of this upload, and while fans and industry members should be happy with that there still are different questions that need to be answered by NASCAR for the long term of the sport. So today I want to bring some of these forward in good faith that NASCAR can cover these bases before any become a major issue that hampers the sport's growth in the coming years and even decades. So here we are, these are 7 big NASCAR questions that need to be asked.

What questions do you think should be asked to NASCAR?

The issue with finding the next superstar is that with the Next Gen car allowing for more competitive races, it seems like it takes a combination of skill and talent. Plus, the average finishes are in the 10s and there was almost 20 winners last year.

Hell, I’m banking on there being more than 15 winners this year.

I think though with that being many winners, all you need is just someone or two to just jump in front of that camera and say, “Hey, I’m here to stay, and I am that driver.”

Drivers gotta start trying to get away from being shy, and take some notes on why drivers in 80’s to 00’s were superstars. And quite frankly imo, NASCAR needs to let em loose with that.

@tescoshortage last year was a weird year. No teams had any notes or data. Now that they have top teams are thinning out the wins from weaker teams.

One question I would ask is are we in for a points format change soon? Because we could have a points format change with the next TV deal

A tarp cover would be wild. Like a cookie cutter having roll out tarps that come out underneath the safer barriers and can be hooked onto the apron. That’d be interesting

Take notes from cricket/ baseball tarps over the pitch/ diamond

I think the biggest problem with NASCAR now is the missing stardom…. We don’t have the stars like Gordon and Jr anymore. F1 has the superstar drivers but not the racing… I feel like NASCAR has the good racing but is missing the star power. Our drivers need to be viewed as “rockstars” and in order to do that you need personalities. Good racing + star power = GREAT series

I think Denny’s actions detrimental has helped for the YouTube side of things, but we need either a drive to survive or BTS type of show to really show the drivers and their personalities to the common viewer.

Another thing I think is missing is consistent drivers in terms of who they are driving for/sponsored by.
Jeff Gordon was always the DuPont 24
Jimmy Johnson was always the Lowes 48
They started and ended their (at least full time) NASCAR careers in the same car and number.
The reason I ended up not watching after 2008 was because so many drivers got their numbers switched around starting the 2009 season I couldn’t tell who was who anymore. I always identified the drivers by their name and number. But they are changing so often and so rapidly with different sponsors it can be difficult to keep track

The 3 biggest questions for me right now are:
When will TV deal happen and what will it look like?

What race tracks can we add on the schedule that are not currently?

When can we get more horsepower and less downforce (to especially help with short tracks)?

He pretty much explained what the TV deal is expected to look like other than numbers like $$

I expect hybrid tech to show up in the cars in the next couple of years. Full EV I’d expect to launch as a separate minimal series with maybe a dozen races. As for fuel, the entire cup contingent probably uses less fuel in a race that a jet airplane flying across the US.

Having sports on streaming is a pain because it makes it hard to switch back and forth between regular channels and the streaming platform

My only gripe with NASCAR right now is stop with the late start to races. I loved the 12 noon and 1pm starts from back in the day and I understand the late starts because of hot weather but you open yourself up for those pop up evening storms in the summer. NASCAR didn’t have all these issues with rain when the races started at 12

Reply
Sam Harris July 14, 2023 at 2:17 am

Yeah. I loved the noon starts as well. Both as a race fan attending the race and as TV viewer.

Apparently, it’s better for TV ratings. But from am attending fans’ perspective, I absolutely hate the later starts.

The races end late. I have to leave the race early to beat traffic home, just to make it back at a reasonable time, because I have work the next morning.

I practically stopped attending races when I lived on the east coast because it was always a minimum 2 hour drive for either Pocono or Dover.

Would you like to see people like Lewis Hamilton, Heilo Castroneves or Katherine Legge in the cup series?

When it comes to the new TV deal, my main question is are races mainly going to be on OTA TV or is NASCAR going to do what Formula E is going to do next year & have the majority of races on a streaming platform like Prime Video? Another question relates to new tracks & the question I have is: when is NASCAR going to do a points paying race outside of the US for the first time for the Cup Series?

I would like to see both for streaming as live/post showing of the live for streaming and live this way you get to get the most viewers like NBC does for other sports or ESPN does for some sports. Then I want to see the attempt to try a few series over sea like an Australian one on the same tracks the V12 cars race on and try to do some Enduro series similar to the one stock series popular in Europe. I would like to see a separate series for E cars, hopefully not all are Tesla cars as those I am sure due to how poor they are now for driving they would be so bad they end up with drivers hired by Tesla forced to drive the cars for a job they were secretly hired for and not allowed sponsors of any kind other then some that NASCAR has that would work for an E-car like the tires, the insurance sponsor for NASCAR and so on like Coke company. Just my hopes to see in NASCAR.

Great video. Just a little correction: Formula E is not a series “F1 has”. FIA is F1’s AND FE’s sanctional body, so it’s an FIA series

What about the possible supercars/Australian invasion? First Ambrose, Now SVG and possibly Brodie Kostecki. Perhaps more coming as well?

As far as the weather situation, let’s PLEASE have an actual rain tire, full rain package, preferably with mudflaps and some type of attachable mud cover to mitigate the rooster-tail effect. This car could race phenomenally in the rain. As long as it’s not raining too hard, you wouldn’t have to cancel the race, and it would really shake up the formula for these tracks.

I think one of the huge problems, is that they’re changing too much, and that’s turning the traditional fan away
