Looks like Alfredos crash at Sonoma
I hops hes okay
He climbed out and walked away.
This looked really bad watching live
Brutal hit but smart thinking by Chandler Smith.
I know it happened quick and he didnt have a lot of time to think but i think he wouldve been way better off just yanking the wheel to the right once he got into the grass to spin it into the sand. Probably wouldnt have even hit anything and if he didnt it wouldnt have been too bad
@Boxscot49 Hitting the sand may not always work to slow the car down enough. Jimmie Johnson and Denny Hamlin had massive wrecks at Watkins Glen where they lost brakes and went over sand but it didn’t do much to slow them down.
@Boxscot49: Berry was on his right. So he would have taken out a competitor in a big way by doing that.
@D2RCR Watkins Glen don’t have a sand run off area
@bryson kemp It used to, going into turn 1. Now that I check again it had been paved by the time of Denny’s crash so I stand corrected on that one.
Man’s got balls of steel to slam it into a concrete wall, can’t imagine what would have happened if he kept going and almost full speed
Nothing good. Really quick thinking by Chandler, it may have saved his life (or at least saved him from a way more dangerous situation).
This caution hands Justin Allgaier his 46th career stage win in the Xfinity series
Jesus he had no brakes what so ever.
John 3:16
Damn Chandler Smith that was brutal. If he also lost steering too, he would’ve went head on into the tire barrier, at full speed. I can guarantee you that would have been a lot more scarier, and the car would’ve been more demolished. Glad he’s ok.
Given how violently the rotor exploded he’s lucky he didn’t lose power steering.
Alex Labbe just had the same thing happen and he lost his steering, so now we know what would have happened.
Nah, this is what the drivers dealt with all the time in those good old days a concrete wall. No foam and no safer barriers.
Hits like that can cause CTE. Just a brutal crash.
Nah, this is what they had in the good old days. Concrete walls. No safer barriers or foam in cars or anything.
High IQ move saved him from worse. Glad he’s apparently ok
I leave the room for a minute and come back seeing a wrecked car wow
What are rough position to be in? It’s hard to say if Chandler made the right move, for the move, he made it caused him to have a hard crash. But If he didn’t make that move, he could of had a much worser crash. Just a tough position to be in.
How can you see this and say it’s questionable if he made the right call?
He literally had no brakes. How do you think he’d make the next corner? He would have went straight on into the wall in front of him instead of a glancing blow on the wall to his left.
@theoriginalshew I know he wasn’t going to make the corner, but he still had a hard crash driver side, yes Alex Labbe later that race had a similar issue and he went head on and got hurt, but there really is no right or wrong move to make when that happened, since you only have seconds to make that move.
I think he chose the better option to slam it into that wall to avoid a full speed hit but talk about a situation still just as bad
That sucks good love to hook left rather than going full send into the turn
I feel like he could’ve taken a more shallow angle to the wall and make it a little less of a hit, but hey, he’s the racer and i’m just a guy
Not much thinking you can do
THE SIDE SPLITER
And no safer barrier. Geez.
The way these new cars react to crashes remains concerning.
