It’s such an easy fix and yet NASCAR doesn’t want to do it because of “new manufacturers”
So frustrating

Typical NASCAR
The sport has been dropping off since the early 2000s

Is it to attract new manufacturers or is it to keep current manufacturer’s happy is the question?

Reply
Nomad Man August 1, 2023 at 9:01 pm

It not as simple as more horsepower. The aero issues will still exist. I do think ite a piece of the puzzle.

@TheJoviLovi the popularity and hp almost directly match

Everytime I see his videos now half of my interest is just to see how much of his stuff is gone, this time it was kinda jarring to have absolutely nothing.

@Neal Bluei dont understand why people move so much, ive lived at the same place for 17 years

@Obswell they’re probably not satisfied with where they live. I sure as hell ain’t. I just can’t afford to move. Even to a “cheaper” area. There’s always a floor for rents… And that floors too damn high

Hendrick turned up the engine for the garage. 56 car to around 750 and it survived 24 hours they said the long block was the same as what they’re running currently they just limited the rpms slightly for the 24-hour race

Reply
DavesTVWatching August 1, 2023 at 9:29 pm

They also had a flappy paddle gear change which the Next Gen cars should have had from the beginning

Reply
Chrome Diesel August 1, 2023 at 9:31 pm

it lasted past 24 hours because they lowered the rpm top limit.

Reply
Race Grubb August 2, 2023 at 1:22 am

@DavesTVWatching no to paddle shifting, this isn’t Indy, or ft, they should never go that way

Totally agree on adding horsepower (especially for short tracks) at least back to 750hp. Alex Bowman’s Detroit Pistons scheme is interesting.

Eric is the good to man if any Nascar team wants new sponsors, just imagine he gets sponserd by Hot Wheels and gets it on a cup car.

That Toxic Waste car reminds me of an old Nickelodeon cartoon! Nice job! Hope you win, Brennan! It would be soooo sick to see that in victory lane at Indy!

Seeing those cars with the new splitters reminded me of the old “twisted sister” Gen 4 cars. Sad to hear that the tests were lackluster at best. Hopefully, with more time and effort, we can get the results we’re hoping, wishing, and expecting at the short tracks that built our sport.

Bringing up the horsepower level to about 750+hp, without risking driver safety too much, is a GREAT idea! While superspeedway and intermediate racing has improved to an extent with the current aero package, I’m hoping that with a little more horsepower, we can see a decent mixture of both strategy racing and bumping-and-banging at the short tracks. With a different tire combination as well, we might be able to improve the racing dramatically as well. As Eric said, Goodyear has been testing new tire combos this year, and it’s showing some promise.

All I can say to NASCAR is… keep up the good work! Hopefully, some good can come out of all this hard work and effort into making our sport better, without it blowing up in our faces. I’m looking forward to seeing how much improvements can affect the immediate quality of competition moving forward.

Getting rid of the diffuser, adding 100hp, and eliminating shifting would do the trick!

Reply
Xavier Juno August 1, 2023 at 11:27 pm

At that point, I’m just worried about concussions from hung throttles and what not

Reply
Satoshi Serena August 2, 2023 at 12:11 am

If you want to eliminate shifting then just have the cars use a CVT.

Reply
jabber1990 August 2, 2023 at 3:59 am

they can’t get rid of shifting

Reply
Parker August 1, 2023 at 9:11 pm

With Nascar trying the car without the diffuser, hopefully, will work. Especially at a short track, you don’t need a diffuser on the car since the speeds aren’t high enough to create enough dirty air to clean up. The tires should be the biggest focus because these tires don’t wear enough. Grooved tires would still be something to try imo.

NASCAR continues to prove that they’re willing to do anything to fix a problem other than what it takes to actually fix the problem.

I’d like to see we go back to the days of the 850 horsepower engines that scream imagine they’ll probably figure that electric engine would be the best way to go and they put around at 50 miles an hour this car is unbelievable they build it with no intelligence at all take it to some real people that design cars and have them figured out maybe use an AI computer it seems to be able to figure everything out and they can’t even figure out a whole little lug nut on

Reply
Gigachad August 2, 2023 at 6:59 am

@vince edwardsno one calls it that

Reply
gatling216 August 1, 2023 at 9:22 pm

If NASCAR said “we don’t care how, get a 750 horsepower engine by Martinsville,” half the teams would have to try really hard to pretend they don’t have one hiding in a crate somewhere already.

Reply
stellingbanjodude August 1, 2023 at 11:00 pm

Ain’t that the truth

Reply
Hazel the amazon August 1, 2023 at 11:31 pm

They all ready have 750 hp engines in the car. They just limit the hp through the ecu. A simple ecu tune would get the hp back

Reply
rjy87 August 2, 2023 at 1:53 am

@Hazel the amazon That actually wont work because they build the engines to run at 675 hp so even if they can produce more it would take stronger internals to hit the higher hp. The engines could easily produce 8-900 hp but they would have to be built with completely different parts. They purposely build them this way to be the most cost effective. Engine builders will need 1 year notice ahead of time to build a higher hp engine.

Reply
Hazel the amazon August 2, 2023 at 2:20 am

@rjy87 I don’t know what they build the engines for hp wise. But I have yet to hear of any racing engine that’s not over built. Even street engines are typically over built. You never want to build a engine to its limits. You want them to exceed the limits.

Reply
rjy87 August 2, 2023 at 2:32 am

@Hazel the amazon The thing in nascar is that they are basically taking engines that can Rev to 9500 rpms and making them run at 7000 rpms. They can’t just unleash the power and Rev them out because they cant handle it. They specifically do this to keep the engines cheaper to make.

Reply
Gary Kennedy August 1, 2023 at 9:22 pm

Id like to see them get the motors back close to a 1000 like they was when they was qualifying in Michigan at a little over 200

camaroboy1968ss August 1, 2023 at 9:27 pm

As far as the shifting, they really need to mess with the rear end gear ratios. About the only way to fix the shifting. Can’t really mess with the individual gears but the overall final drive ratio is about the only thing you can easily mess with.

The longer the next gen is ran, you clearly start to see why teams used to have build specific cars for track types. Yes it was more expensive, I get that, but the racing was much better. Horsepower is clearly the fix for short tracks.
Not sure how to tackle the road course issues. It’s bad when Xfinity puts on a better road course race with the old style car.

Reply
Davis Owen August 1, 2023 at 9:34 pm

The shifting and HP won’t be as viable of a solution as people think. Yes it helps but we already saw no shifting at Wilksboro and while the HP was the same, drivers didn’t go more than 50% throttle on the straights. But giving this car the same power as the previous car couldn’t hurt the process. I’m glad they’re looking to take the diffuser off to start somewhere. The step splitter with no diffuser is a good start. This car needs more rear end ground clearance and the diffuser is just too low. The Supercars have a higher less aero efficient diffuser and the racing produced over there in Australia is what the short tracks and road courses have been missing. Glad they’ll still be testing in the off-season

Reply
RollingThunder August 1, 2023 at 9:48 pm

They had small improvements with removing the diffuser which is great as we made an improvement even though it’s a small one. The only way to get the best results is no diffuser, small spoiler, and way more horsepower. Also somehow stopping the shifting and a smaller tire, which they will never do it seems like

Reply
Satoshi Serena August 2, 2023 at 12:09 am

I agree with removing the rear splitter. I don’t think it’s horsepower but how the downforce is produced that’s the problem. It doesn’t help when the cars are as low to the ground as possible.

Reply
Vladimir Blarp August 2, 2023 at 12:40 am

A smaller tire may sound like a good idea, but the costs would be massive to the teams.

Reply
Brandon Spratt August 2, 2023 at 3:14 am

It’s almost like NASCAR brought a GT car to short tracks and thought it would race well…these cars have way too many aero components for any oval under 1 mile.
