I 100% agree! I like these style of videos more than the “(Insert Topic Here) Moments” which I feel like are quite low-effort since it’s usually popular clips just thrown together in a compilation, which everyone has always included at some point or another.
Although I do feel like these style of videos in general could improved upon outside of just introducing what happened, showing one or two clips, and then moving on.

I was there for Kirkwood’s crash. That tire flew right over us. It was a surreal moment to be in the stands.

Watching the 2023 Indy 500 on TV, I had a sick feeling watching that tire fly toward the packed grandstand. Thought people were going to die.

I feel bad for whoever’s car got destroyed by that flying tire.
(If it were me, I’d have been like “If I can keep the tire, I’ll forget this ever happened.”)
One of the things that did happen was the woman that owned the car was brought down onto the track to celebrate with the winners and kiss the bricks.
I’d be the same. Give me the tire and we’ll call it even lol. She did get to celebrate in victory lane though!
She got a new car, so it’s all good 🙂

There was a bit of good fortune with the Austin Dillon crash as that was the first event where that section of Daytona Rising was completed and the walkway area by the catchfence was closed off to fans, if you look back on previous race finishes there was always numerous fans that got up too close to the fence.
I watched the 2023 Indy 500 and when I saw that tire fly, I was thinking the worst as I did not initially see the tire clear the grandstand. I closed my eyes and turned my head. The other was the Austin Dillon flip, I was repeating over and over to see Dillon move that was a horrific crash that I seriously did not think Dillon survived, there are a lot of Ruan Newman flips as well that were pretty close.
The tire at this years Indy 500 is absolutely horrifying. I don’t even want to imagine what the outcome would have been if he had been 50 feet back up the track. Holy moly…
I’ll also maintain that the front row view of Dillon’s ride to the catch fence is the best work by a cameraman on YT. They flinched, but in fairness, a 3400 pound race car was flying at their face and they didn’t flinch for very long.
The Simpsons would have predicted something else again had that happened.
Another close call was the 2000 Daytona 250 with Bodine flying into the fence in the same spot as Dillon. Richard Petty in the 1988 Daytona 500 as well.
You did an excellent job with this video. Unfortunately, much like the racers themselves it’s always going to be a bit dangerous to be at the races. There’s a reason your race ticket has a waiver/disclaimer on the back of it. I’ve seen one close call myself at one of our local tracks. The NEMA midgets were racing and a big crash occurred with one car getting into the fence and partially piercing it. Fortunately the fence did keep him from going into the stands. They took about an hour to fix the hole, several cars in the incident actually repaired and restarted (close to half the field was collected). Only the strictly stocks didn’t get their race in that night! Mind you- this was 35 or so years ago.
Good video! If you do another one, consider the NASCAR 1994 Winston Select 500. Mark Martin got turned and cannonballed through a gap in the infield fence before hitting a guardrail headon not far from a bunch of spectators.
Great video! I hadn’t seen some of these. People that attend live motorsports need to understand that anything can happen and they themselves could be involved!
That tire was in the air 2 1/2 second but felt like 2 minutes watching it live. So lucky it’s unreal.
I have seen that Austin Dillon wreck so many times and it still gives me goosebumps watching it EVERY time. The advancements in safety in NASCAR saved his life
