Regardless of what happened behind the scenes, i think the way Noah has navigated this publicly has given him the best shot he could have at redeeming himself.

I suspect that SVG will run at least one cup, Xfinity, truck, or ARCA Series race for each weekend in 2024 until a full-time cup ride can open to him.

rebelcheese August 11, 2023 at 9:29 pm

I’m suspecting a full-time Xfinity schedule with appearances in Cup and Truck.

Would love to see Noah step into the 91 at trackhouse. Idk if they could take the 91 full time but, Giving Noah the opportunity to stay in a ride next year while SVG is not thrown straight to the wolves of the cup series ovals could be a massive opportunity for every party involved. Plus we get to see Chastain and Gragson on the the same team!

91 is for like SVG aka international drivers

Reply
Mr._Fiend August 12, 2023 at 12:32 am

@John Haas i think there is plenty of room for part time drivers, whether international or local short track guys in nascar. Im not saying you take those opportunity’s away at all. But why field a car part time for RoadCourses/StreetCourses when you could focus on a complete season and have a chance at the playoffs for the next 2-4 years while SVG does his truck series and xfinity run. You would have any problems worked out from taking that team PT to FT also. I admit i do not no the specifics of what it would take or even if possible at the moment to take the 91 full time, but it should be a serious option looked into by trackhouse

So happy for Todd Gilliland. He has been outstanding this year and deserves the 38 🙂

I’d honestly say that he deserves a ride better than what he’s got now.

@Grover Clevelandlowkey does but he’ll continue to deliver in the 38

I’d love to see SVG bring sponsors over and go full time in the 11 xfinity car now that hemric looks to be flaring out without a lot of sponsorship

All props to Jones for carrying Legacy throughout the season. While not perfect he’s doing solid with the pressure put on him to perform. I hope he can get a win this year.

I would love to see SVG do what Timmy Hill was doing a couple years ago and just make tons of starts across every series, but actually win a bunch

People have to remember that in 2021 before it was announced that Trackhouse was buying all of Ganassi’s nascar assets, Ganassi had a contract with Zane Smith to drive the #1 Cup car cause Busch was moving to the 45 for 23XI. And then when Ganassi sold the Cup team Zane scrambled to find a contract and landed with FRM in the 38 truck. So Zane could’ve been in the Cup series for awhile now.

Put Noah back at JRM in the 8 when Berry leaves and let him win multiple races again. Legacy will need years to grow yet, works out good for NG.

Not happening as Jeffrey is on the list of possible drivers

Reply
Zachary Phillips August 12, 2023 at 3:27 am

I agree someone like Noah though he Glran many xfinity season probably should have waited another year until literally any other ride opened up

Reply
Mike Callan August 12, 2023 at 3:41 am

@John Haas Jeffery Earnhardt? Carson Hocevar will be in the 8 before that happens. I don’t think Jeffrey could come up with the funding needed.

Reply
Kadin Smith August 12, 2023 at 3:43 am

@Mike CallanI’d like Hocevar to the 8, but all signs point to him going to cup at Spire. And I don’t think Earnhardt gets the ride because JRM wants sponsor money and Earnhardt doesn’t bring that. I think either Carson Kvapil or Christian Eckes will get the ride.

I think FRM wanted some consistency. Zane in the 38 is going to struggle his first year in cup, he’s no ty Gibbs and it’s shown when they kicked Todd out of his seat. He did okay at best, Todd is a better choice if they want the team to keep that momentum.

AceDelta12 August 12, 2023 at 5:33 am

This makes sense. Todd Gilliland got a top 10 finish in the 36, a random (for lack of a better term) third addition. It finished TENTH.

I think Front Row made a good call. They played it safe but smart. I do feel bad but now this is where Zane looks at his opportunities, he could go to JR motorsports as the 8 driver. Or he could go to the 10 car say it opens. Todd Gilliland has stepped up and if he can be this good or better next year he’s a playoff contender, maybe not deep threat playoffs but he’s a playoff contender

I would like to see 4 more charters added bringing the field up to 40 cars.

Reply
WhatAboutTheBee August 11, 2023 at 9:35 pm

Excellent idea! Remember the days when the field was limited to 43 cars? And cars were sent home because tgey were too slow?

I do.

36 charters means that for many races, 36 cars are in the field. Nobody goes home.

Everybody gets a participation trophy.

I’m glad Gilliland is staying in the 38. His hard work warrants him that ride. Same goes for McDowell, although someone of his talents would likely be more beneficial for struggling teams like SHR or WBR.

If SVG signs with Trackhouse, I hope that this isn’t the end of Project 91. I legitimately like the role that team plays in bringing more of some of the best drivers in the world into NASCAR, and I don’t want to see it disappear.

As for Gragson, if he does get released (as far as I know, it still hasn’t been CONFIRMED he was officially released yet at this time), I think it’s best if he starts either in the Trucks or the Modifieds, and work his way back up again. That’s the only way that I can see racing wise how he can redeem himself, and earn a winning reputation again.

LJRacing91 August 11, 2023 at 10:05 pm

I’m not convinced Front Row had a choice of 3 drivers by the sound of things. It sounds like Zane has either been presented with other offers, or is anticipating one from somewhere else. By their actions this year (pulling Gilliland for certain races for Zane) it definitely looked like they were going to dump Gilliland for Smith.

I figure they suspect Zane is going elsewhere, and so they needed to lock up these guys for next year since they’re both doing well.

Kyle Quamme August 11, 2023 at 10:06 pm

Zane has 8 rides in cup this season. Of those, he’s competed 6 times already. Of those 6 races, 4 times he finished worse than 30th with 1 DNF. He also had finishes of 10th at Daytona and 13th at Charlotte. Meanwhile, Todd has competed in 23 races this season with 4 finishes worse than 30th and two DNFs(coincidentally at Daytona and Charlotte). He has 3 top 10’s and his average finish is 21st. After announcing that Zane would be in the 38 for select races this year, it was later announced in March that Gilliland would indeed run the full season, with help from Ruedebusch Development. Todd also signed Serial 1 as a sponsor in the 38 and 51. I think new outside sponsorship, combined with the fact that he brings the car home in one piece and contends in the top 20 at many tracks makes him a little more attractive of an option than a year ago. I am not sure how many sponsors Zane brings to the table. It also doesn’t hurt that for many of the races, Todd has been within a position or two of where McDowell runs for much of the day. It seems like FRM finally has some things figured out and Bob Jenkins probably doesn’t want to miss out on sponsor money and/or risk regressing by starting over with a rookie driver in the 38 again.

That said, I think Zane is an amazing talent. I think the decision for Bob is somewhat easier this year because of the lack of driver openings in Cup in 2024. If other Cup teams REALLY wanted him, he probably would already have a deal in the works. But RWR/RFK went outside Ford and locked up Haley; I think that speak a bit to the demand for rookie drivers in Cup in 2024. I could see Zane going to an SHR xfinity car next year with Ford Performance footing the bill and then from 2025 and beyond, it’s anyone’s guess as to what happens. But Zane would have to have some humility which has been lacking in some of his interviews lately. I don’t see SHR putting Zane in a Cup car before bringing Custer back up, unless Ford pays his way or he brings a massive sponsor with him, and it doesn’t appear that Zane has one.

I’m a huge fan of Zayn, and I can’t agree with you more that humility seems to be lacking in the interviews that I’ve seen lately. The guy certainly is talented, but there is a huge difference from racing in the trucks, to racing in cup.

Yon Bonjour August 11, 2023 at 10:10 pm

I’m thinking SVG gets a top 20 tonight. He may not be used to the trucks, or paved ovals, but he’s a championship winning driver and to be one, you need to know how to adapt. A top 20 would be a fantastic start to his oval career.
