Damn, the title made it seem like he won his first oval race. Was about to say this dude is insane. Still great job though

Don’t let a 19th place in a third tier series fool you. Shane has never run this type of track before in a completely different race car (or truck) that was off balance all night. He kept his nose clean and accomplished everything he needed: experience. Looking forward to seeing him and Brodie on Sunday.

@NASCAR exactly

Although third tier is correct it’s not quite the right descriptor

I agree. Now in the playoffs As a deegan fan I wish she would take a step back from digging to win racing people to hard in the back and really try to make it a goal to just FINSH all of the laps the rest of the season then go hard Next year in Xfinity. The trucks are not her suited style.

@ZombiepoptartsI think you should pick a different driver

That was phenomenal for never having touched paved oval racing, let a lone a truck before. Watched him for a while in Supercars, the guy has raw talent in a racecar.

This guy has alot of talent. He is humble in all the right scenarios and knows how to adjust his race craft to each vehicle well.

Shane van Gisbergen has quickly become my new favorite driver behind MTJ. Shane was running in the top 15 tonight and was continuing to impress me seeing as this was his very first race on this type of track and he straight up conquered it indeed. Knowing he’s apart of the sport now and into the future is nothing but amazing and exciting! Looking forward to seeing him, Brodie, and Kamui on Sunday.

Yeah for someone who has no oval experience on concrete, finishing his first one in 19th is pretty good. I mean the more ovals he’s going to run the more he’ll adapt to it and now with the sim time they have to put in on top of that, he’ll master ovals very quickly.

@Samuel Duplessis lol… No he won’t. SVG’s oval career will go much the same way that Marcos Ambrose’s did.

@The Sammy Jenkins Experienceyou underestimate this guy mate. He can drive anything. I’m not saying he’ll be a champion of the oval, but very few drivers ever make it to that title anyway. He’s a better driver than most of the entire NASCAR roster in all tiers.

@Tim Wise Dude he’s gonna get to the Cup series like Ambrose did, and then spend his entire career finishing 10 – 25. NASCAR oval racing is unlike anything else, and that’s why no outside drivers have ever cracked it.

What an awesome effort for first ever oval experience. He got into the top 15 if only for a lap or so. 19th over all and finished with a straight truck. Go get em on Sunday SVG in the Cup Race. Hope to see him racing next year in a car with #97 on it.

most important thing, not a single scratch on that truck despite battling all race in the middle of the pack, now i want to see how he does on a big oval

First time on an oval! First time in a truck! Finished the race with all four corners intact on the truck! Finished better then the Donut! You either have it or you don’t! SVG’s got it! The Donut don’t!

If this guy goes in for a full season in any nascar league someone give him a red bull livery.

Tim Hoogendoorn August 12, 2023 at 5:51 am

Would be historically correct if he would end up in the 83.

I heard he was runnin this race a few days ago. His biggest feature was during a commercial break when they were showing the race side by side with the commercials when he was running 3 wide for multiple laps. Pretty friggin cool!
